With 3 large bedrooms and a couch bed in the living room, Maison Fortunat sleeps 6-8 adults comfortably. There is even extra space for a travel cot in two of the bedrooms. And the couch bed boasts a real double mattress.
A spacious kitchen and living/dining room each seat 6 people round the table. Highchairs can be provided. The property is walled and private with its own swimming pool. Buggies and child car seats and toys are available.
Maison Fortunat is only a 15-minute drive from Carcassonne airport and an hour's drive from Beziers or Toulouse airports. Most importantly, Maison Fortunat is in Carcassonne town itself, ideal for those who like to dine out and take advantage of the nightlife, as it is only a few minutes’ walk from the historic medieval city (la Cité). The house boasts views of la cité from the garden and sitting room. The house is only 10 minutes walk from a large shopping centre. A 20-minute walk or short bus ride will bring you into the heart of Carcassonne's Bastide, Place Carnot, Canal du Midi and the River Aude. Numerous bus routes run past the house.
Carcassonne is a town of colourful festivals and events, wonderful food, wine and friendly local people, steeped in history and is a fantastic area to explore being only an hour from breathtaking walking, hiking, running, and beach destinations and two hours from ski locations.

About the host
Hosted by Susan SINHA
I left Ireland with just a suitcase and a vague dream of the perfect life in France in 2005 and never got any further than my first stop, the beautiful Carcassonne. I had ditched my "real job" as a journalist and editor in Dublin and instead got a job as a waitress in a restaurant in Carcassonne's fairytale castle. My French improved fast and I next got a job at the local Irish pub.
I returned to journalism in 2007 with an editing job in Castres, where I met my UK-born husband Matt, and we married in Carcassonne in 2010. We now have two beautiful bi-lingual children, Oscar born in 2012 and Céleste born in 2015. With an Irish business partner, I set up a new Irish bar, The Celt, in 2008 and, in January 2015, my husband and I bought and launched Maison Fortunat, our family's home and holiday rental business.
Maison Fortunat is under continual redecoration. We will update the photos as the redecoration progresses (it may look even better than you expect when you arrive). We look forward to welcoming you to Carcassonne, a town we know very well.

Why they chose this property
After 12 years living in Carcassone and surrounds, we know it is the town for us. It proximity to beaches and ski resorts, big cities (Montpellier, Toulouse, Barcelona, Andorra...) and quaint French villages (Lagrasse, Minerve...) make it the ideal spring board from which to explore the region. And, there is plenty to do in Carcassonne itself, with its ancient walled town and castle, its lake and canal amenities, and its myriad boutique shops. This house provided the opportunity to share all that with guests and provide our family with a home and business in one.
What makes this property unique
The house is a walled villa with a large swimming pool. Its charm lies in its location, right in Carcassonne town itself, within view of the castle's turrets and only 15 mins walk or a short hop on a bus to the town centre. It is a large house which allows us to create a family home and a separate holiday rental business on the same property. So, we will be present to help you with any enquiries during your stay, but will remain well out of sight should you prefer your privacy.
