About this property
Romantic Cottege WITH PRIVATE POOL above Medieval City Walls
Selci is a detached, medieval house
The front door opens from the garden into the living room. A large room, with a magnificent, cross-vaulted ceiling, it has been divided to separate the breakfast kitchen from the living room. The kitchen has good equipment.
Beyond the living room is an elegant shower room.
A marble staircase leads to the first floor, with a double bedroom, a twin bedroom.
Furnitures is a mixture of old and new.
There are superb views from some of the rooms.
One side of the house is a walled garden, one side of which is the medieval ancient city wall.
There are several places to sit, eat sunbathe, and realx, with a vine covered pergola, fruit and pine trees, home to blackbirds, swallows and nightingales.
Near the vegetable garden 8 m diameter swimming pool, hidden behind a hedge.
in this garden there is a second pool, hydromassage for relaxation when your children sleep.
Behind the house is a park where the famous flag throwers sometimes practice, to the accompaniment of evocative medieval drumbeats.
The Guarnacci Museum is 300 m. with one of the largest Etruscan collections in the world.
In the town center, within a few minutes' walk, are important museums and art galleries, as well as an excellent variety of shops and restaurants.
Volterra is one of the oldest cities in Italy. there was as Etruscan settlement
in the 8th C BC: built on Villanovan foundations. The Etruscan developed thriving trades in metals, alabaster and salt. Captured by the Romans in the 3rdCentury BC, it was sacked in 80 BC. by Sulla. The Lombards favored and survived the Middle Ages intact, but was under the Florentine domination until the unification of Italy in 1860. Almost all the buildings are made of "bench", a king of limestone related to the alabaster for which Voletrra is famous.
The stone flagged streets and squares have wonderful buildings, such as the Palace of the Priors, the Cathedral, baptistery and square, a wealth of excellent restaurants and plenty of more.
Other attractions are the Roman theater, and Porta all'Arco, the intact Etruscan entrance to the city. The austere, medieval town center is a fascinating maze of winding streets, connected with narrow, arched alleys.
Concerts and festivities are organized to summer, and there is so much to see and do you need to move.
When you do, once you have driven down the
tortuous approach roads admiring the extraordinary moonscape of rounded clay hills.
