About the host
Hosted by Zena Snowdon-Perkins

We have always loved being in the countryside. For 20 years we lived in a semi-rural village in Berkshire bringing up our son, running a successful photography studio and taking long walks in nature. Whilst we had gorgeous countryside on our doorstep, we craved more. We started exploring different areas of the UK at weekends with a view to eventually moving to a more rural area for a more relaxed and peaceful life. Our search took us further and further west until we crossed the border into Wales…and our hearts soared! Mid Wales was a revelation to us – the hills, the valleys the lakes and rivers…the open spaces. Our Big Dream began to take shape. We then discovered the sweet spot where we could also be with half an hour of the sea and the most picture perfect harbour towns as well as the beautiful unspoilt beaches of Cardigan Bay. So when our son flew the nest we began the adventure to find our rural retreat...we found it at Coedmor Cottages.
Why they chose this property
Driving up the track to Coedmor Cottages for the first time, it really felt like coming home. The view, the peace and quiet and the idyllic cottages…it was very emotional – just like an episode of Escape to the Country! We are so passionate about this unspoilt and relatively unknown part of Wales that gets a fraction of the visitor numbers of Pembrokeshire and Snowdonia. We want to share our secluded corner of it with our cottage guests and help them to replenish their soul by spending time in nature. If its a more action packed holiday you are after then there are plenty of beautiful walks, cycle rides, lots of historical sites to explore as well as stunning beaches.
What makes this property unique
The view is the first thing that you will notice as you approach Coedmor Cottages. Set into the hillside looking over the valley with the Teifi River and a patchwork of fields and forests it is a wonder of nature.
If you want to spend time in nature, you will love our 2 acres of private meadows. Picnic Meadow gets the sun all day and has far views of the Preseli Hills on a clear day (the place where the stones of Stonehenge are thought to have come from).
Garden Meadow gives you a great view over the valley below and we have planted a variety of trees to help wildlife and make the space more beautiful. The picnic bench is a wonderful spot for a sunset drink.
Behind both meadows is open countryside where wildlife often pays a visit (as well as the resident sheep and sometimes cows with their calves in the Summer). We always see red kites and buzzards overhead and goldfinches, chaffinches and nuthatches are often around. Sometimes we see foxes, hares squirrels and rabbits in the surrounding fields. And listen for the Cronk Cronk of our neighbourhood Ravens - their aerobatics are amazing as they swoop down the valley.
When the cattle aren't in the fields behind our meadows, you can walk to the very top of the hill where the views are even more stunning.
Or if you want to venture out, we are magically placed so that whichever direction you travel there is somewhere amazing to visit. Head west to the glorious Cardigan Bay beaches and quaint seaside towns. Head north to spectacular lakes & dams at Llyn Brianne and Elan Valley. To the east are the wonderful Brecon Beacons and south are the forests of Brechfa & Abergorlech - renowned for Mountain Biking trails as well as walking.
Our "Secret" corner of Wales has so much to offer, but without the crowds of the more famous areas. Come and Discover Wales at Woodpecker Cottage at Coedmor Cottages.
