About this property
Terrace house in centre of Montreal
The house is a typical end of terrace rendered stone construction. Close to the centre of town. 3 large bedrooms. One huge master bedroom on top floor. Stunning views south of the agricultural region of Aude to the snow capped Pyrennees. View to the north across rooftops to the beautiful Saint Vincente Collegiate Church. Montreal is a regional centre of an agricultural district famous for wine and sunflowers. The tour de france regularly passes nearby. The town is compact and has all necessary conveniences. There is a mini mart, petrol station a number of restaurants and various sundry specialty shops. It has typical stone terrace houses and narrow winding streets only a few of which are accessable by car. However there is parking not far from the house in a car park near the town square. It is one hour from Toulouse and 15 minutes from bustling Carcassonne with its famous world heritage Citadel. There are a number of wonderful markets at nearby towns including Castelnaudary, Mirepoix, Bram and Revel. Montreal itself has a once a month produce/craft market on the first Sunday of the month. The area has many famous Cathar ruins close by. The Cathar history about which Montreal played a critical part is important to the area.
As its so close the Pyrenees, for the energetic, there are numerous hiking trails near Foix, which is an hours drive away. Also Andorra is only 3 hours by car and Barcelona 4 hours so onward travel possibilities are numerous.
The house itself is light filled on 4 levels. Not recommended for visitors with mobility difficulties as the original staircase is quite steep. There is a living area and a fully equipped kitchen for self catering. Its warm in winter with full central heating and cool in summer. It has a south facing sun room on the lower level which opens up to an outside private courtyard with table and chairs for outside dining and entertaining.

About the host
Hosted by John

Jayne and I are retired professionals who live in Melbourne Australia. We love to travel. We love to visit historic/cultural places, enjoy good food, wine coffee etc. All the good things life has to offer. We do not get to stay in our house in Montreal as often as we would like, but love to offer to family, friends and anyone else who loves France, and this region in particular. We invite you to enjoy our house, the town, the area, and Carcassonne. Feel free to make yourselves at home in our house and explore the region.
Why they chose this property
We stayed in this house in 2013 as holiday renters and fell in love with it. We kept in touch with the previous owner, who lives in the UK and when we discovered by happenstance that she was selling the house we put in an offer. We have done some minor modifications to the house and hope it is enjoyed by all who stay here. It has a special local charm as many of the distinctive original features have been retained, as the renovations have been subtle and sympathetic.
What makes this property unique
It is right in the heart of town but in a quiet corner with a private south facing courtyard. It has spectacular uninterrupted views on both sides, particularly from the upper levels. It has ample parking despite the fact that most of the town is pedestrian only which adds to the towns charm and ambiance. The town is quiet yet has many local amenities including a mini mart with most necessities available. Lots of local markets to visit in the area as well.
