About this property

Unique apartment with 2 large terraces, 4 mins walk from Otranto centre and sea

*10% discount is applied to rentals of 1 week or more*

Our apartment has a large, partially covered private terrace and eating area outside the kitchen and another large private terrace for sunbathing and sundowners. The apartment also has a private garage and Wi-Fi. Located in the residential part of town with the locals; closer to the centro storico and away from the tourist end of town in the high season. There is an Italian language school at the end of our road.

This 2 bedroom apartment is modern and comfortable with air conditioning in both bedrooms, and has been a holiday home for visitors since 2012. It's suitable for only 4 adults/children and there is also a child's cot and high chair. The kitchen opens out onto a large private roof terrace, with covered coperta and lighting, overlooking fields for the obligatory alfresco dining. There is also direct access to a further large private sun roof terrace (i.e. for this apartment only) with sun loungers and day round sunshine and great views at sunset. An hour’s drive from Brindisi airport (served by Ryanair, EasyJet and BA in the summer) and two hours drive from Bari airport, there is also a private garage in the gated apartment complex and a supermarket within a couple of minute’s walk.

What is included: all the prices quoted includes private parking under the condominium, air-conditioning, gas, electricity, wi-fi, bedding, towels, and the cleaning of the apartment after you leave. There are no additional charges.

This is the better side of town to be for the easiest walking access to the market, marina and the historic town center and its wonderful restaurants. It is in the residential district where the locals live, close to the Centro Storico and amenities, away from the far side of town which can be busy with tourists in the high season.

Otranto: Otranto itself is a historic, walled city with a lovely castle and cathedral and a stunning seafront. Pretty, cobbled and car-free lanes wind through the compact city and are packed with fantastic restaurants and bars. The town also has beautiful beaches and the crystal clear waters of the Adriatic Sea.

Salento: Otranto is also a perfect base to discover and explore the local region of Salento. Highlights include the beautiful coastal road south of Otranto - with views and grottos, it is often likened to the Amalfi coast - and the long sandy beaches north of the town. The gorgeous baroque city of Lecce (the ‘Florence of the South’) is 30 minutes drive away, as is the fishing port of Gallipoli and the beaches and resorts of the west of the peninsula on the Ionian Sea. Among the many other places of interest in the region are the ‘white city’ of Ostuni and the conical trulli of Alberobello, as are the wonderful churches in Galatone and Galatina, and the pretty port of Porto Cesarea.

Puglia: Puglia is unspoilt Italy and is legendary for its food and wine, thanks to its year round sunshine and clear blue waters. The olives, fish and both red and white vino are fabulous and are an integral part of any holiday in the region. The weather is warm throughout the year and July and August are full of festivals and music that celebrate this wonderful town.

I am married to a Finn, Johanna, and we have 3 grown up sons and 4 grandchildren (in 2025). We live in Sout West London in the UK. We both love travelling and enjoy cooking, good food and wine, reading, theatre and the arts, skiing and scuba diving. I am also a passionate rugby and golf fan.

Why they chose this property

We both love Italy and wanted to find somewhere with great sunshine and authenticity and so investigated Puglia. Having travelled all over, we felt that Otranto had the best mixture of stunning sea, a beautiful historic centre, great restaurants and all year round activity. It is also a perfect base for exploring the region and wonderful towns such as Ostuni, Lecce, Gallipolli etc are all within easy reach. The food and wine in Puglia, and particularly the fish and seafood in Otranto, are fabulous.

Our apartment was unique in being in the right part of town, being on the top floor and having direct access to extensive terraces that didn't just look out over other roof terraces. In addition the private garage underneath the property was a real bonus.

What makes this property unique

We fell in love with our apartment initially because of the fantastic terraces. The weather between Easter and October means that you want to spend as much time outside as possible and having such a large terrace directly off the kitchen was very unusual. We have invested in a solid, wooden, permanent awning with floodlighting to enhance al fresco dining in all weathers.

Steps from this terrace lead straight to a private roof terrace that has a 270 degree view over fields and to the chiesi dei martiri. The apartment is modern, comfortable and easy to maintain. It is in the quieter (and more older and civilised) residential part of the city and is only a couple of minutes walk from the castle and the historic city centre. This is where the majority of shops, restaurants and bars are located, and the town seafront. Everyone comes there to stroll and have a cafe or gelato in late afternoon. We also have a local supermarket and fantastic pisceria (wet fish shop) within a minute's walk of the apartment.
