About this property

Cozy Cabin

Currently, because of the drought the lake is down 50%. This is a newly remodeled 2 bedroom 1 bathroom cabin. It has a kitchen that was made for cooking as it has plenty of counter and cabinet space and is open to the dinning and living room. It includes basic dishes and cookware in addition to a deep fat fryer, toaster oven, toaster, coffee maker, microwave and dishwasher. The dinning room has a picture window and a table that seats 6 and a bar counter that seats 3.

While dinner is cooking, you can watch your favorite DISH channels on the 52" flat screen TV in the living room. WIFI is also available. A queen sized bed is available in one bedroom, and a bunk bed that has a bottom that folds out into a full sized bed in the other room. The cabin will sleep 5. The full bathroom has plenty of shelving storage and a bathtub/shower.

The covered patio is right off of the front door and has a new grill with a picnic table. The back yard has a fire pit with bundles of wood available for purchase near by.

This cabin is near some of the best hunting and fishing areas in North America for whitetails, mulies, pheasant, duck, geese, wild turkey, walleye, white bass and wipers. Wildlife preserves, such as Clear Creek State Wildlife Management Area and Crescent Lake National Wildlife Refuge, and historical sites like Ash Hollow and Oregon Trail are only a short drive away. And, it's about 3.5 hours from Denver.

Nice cabin
We enjoyed staying at this cabin. It had everything we needed and was clean. Wish the lake was up, but it was a short drive to the water. Would definitely stay again.

Cozy cabin but listing needs updated
The owner is very nice and the cabin is “cozy clean and very reasonably priced. It has a new grill and places to hang out outside. The only complaint is the lake is at 55% of capacity (still lots of lake don’t worry!)but the pictures in here of the view of the lake are incorrect. It is a mossy field now since the lake doesn’t start for a mile or two from the property now. The lakes fullness will fluctuate and I understand that. But it was frustrating because we picked this place instead of a place closer to our friends campsite that was also lower in price because we thought it was close to water. It was misleading. Other than that the stay was pleasant.

I moved to Lake McConaughy in 2007. For most of my life I had owned my own home, but when moving to the lake I wasn't sure this was a permanent spot to grow roots. An opportunity presented itself where I could rent inexpensively and I considered this to be a good financial move, so I grabbed it. Years passed and I decided Lake McConaughy was the next best thing to my dream of living in the South Pacific. I not only loved the lake and the water, but the local people were so genuine and warm. The clincher was when my youngest son came to live with me at age 14 or 15. He had several choices when it came to schools, but he decided on Arthur County Public School. This turned out to be a transforming decision for him in more ways than one. Two hundred miles north of Lake MacConaughy are the beautiful sand hills of Nebraska. Arthur County lies within those hills and with my son attending that school I got to know many of the sand hills people. I found them to be an unusual group of people that thought in unique ways. Tough, rugged, self sufficient, honest, hospitable, warm, kind, sensitive, helpful, genuine, intelligent, and were able to overcome any obstacle that presented itself. I was living at the edge of a rare culture of people to the north of me and a mixture of people splashed along the lake who had migrated from various backgrounds. Many of them had wanted to escape the noise and confusion of densely populated areas. As I surveyed all the opportunities here, the broad spectrum of people's backgrounds and their warmth, the slow and easy living, the beautiful lake, the white sand beaches, all of the activities, the almost country living, and all the favorable circumstances, I concluded it was time to buy. I already owned several rentals in the middle eastern part of the state that had been successful, and I determined to invest in something I could periodically offer to vacationers. As I told my son the plan, he said, "Dad, I'll buy in with you".

Why they chose this property

I began the search by , not contacting a realtor, but putting miles on my car driving the area to find what I considered the best place for me. I drove up and down the lake observing houses, areas, subdivisions, neighborhoods, and locations to find what I considered to be the best spot in my price range.
