The home was clean, spacious, and cozy. The owners were super communicative if/when we reached out. The checkin and checkout were well communicated and easy. Kitchen and bathrooms were well stocked. And it was 5 minutes to Jiminy Peak, which was an added bonus. We would definitely stay here again. Thanks Ed and Elena!

Thank you very much for the great review. We are very happy you enjoyed it and would love to have you again.
This is a beautiful house in a convenient Berkshires location, a perfect base to visit our family in Williamstown. Edward was extremely helpful and communicative about the house and also offered great suggestions for hikes/swimming holes and local markets. The highlight for us (especially in these covid times) was the beautiful outdoor patio where we ate all meals and the fire pit was a delight. The house was immaculately clean and comfortable. Highly recommend their house for your next Berkshires jaunt.

The house was perfect for our needs— graduation weekend at Williams College. Plenty of room for everyone and about 15 minutes away. Only recommendation is that many rooms were dimly lit (no lighting in front room with puzzles/ games?) and some existing lamps either didn’t work or the outlet they were plugged into didn’t function. Not a big issue but odd and made reading in the evening challenging.
The house sits high on the slant of the Berkshire mountains. Though there are neighbors, you definitely have your own space surrounded by trees and the owners garden. My family had 3 young children who enjoyed the playroom with a built in doll house. We also took advantage of the new playground at the elementary school down the road. As for the house, note there is no air conditioner. We slept with the windows open and it mostly cooled down for a good night's sleep. The two showers were awesome with good water pressure. The kitchen is well supplied and owners provided dishwasher soap and trash bags. The owners tipped us off that no grocery stores were near by and to stock up in Pittsfield.

Thank you Cindy, we are happy you enjoyed your stay.
This home was in a perfect location. In the middle of the mountains and great trailheads nearby.
The home was great and the hosts were very easy to work with about the place.
Di, Jon Marc and Tuscany (our pup) too!
Avoid This Owner: Owner acted in bad faith during family covid crisis
We had an extremely negative experience with Elena den Dooven, the house owner. While our initial interactions with Elena were pleasant, we feel she acted in bad faith once we had a problem due to a covid crisis in our family. First our grandson came down with covid and then our adult son came down with covid and was very sick for more than a week. We had been planning for a long family weekend with the grandchildren in the Berkshires but covid was now preventing that.
When the covid crisis hit our family, we immediately wrote to Elena, as the VRBO website suggested, and asked about our options. We then wrote the next day to inquire about cancellation or rescheduling. We were still within the cancellation period and thought Elena would be agreeable to allowing us to reschedule (which would have enabled her to keep the full rental payment). We did not hear back from Elena until the following morning, just after the cancellation period expired. We would have been satisfied with merely rescheduling the family trip, but Elena wrote to us informing us that covid has a 5 day quarantine period (which was wrong in this case) and she suggested that she did not believe us. Elena remained inflexible, she wanted her money and would not permit us to reschedule; she also mentioned bringing a lawyer in to discuss.
The VRBO policy states that “hosts determine the cancellation and refund policies” and that “if you want to make changes outside the cancellation policy window, contact the host”. We were within the cancellation policy window when we reached out to her and we were hopeful we could work things out with her.
This covid crisis in our family, understandably, was completely unexpected and we feel that she acted in bad faith, letting the clock run on the cancellation period and then not giving us any flexibility. As a result, we lost 100% of the rental fee (which was quite expensive being over $2,000) with no option to reschedule. Please be aware of this. It is not what we expected of VRBO hosts with such a high rating. We will never work with her again as she has not shown either good faith or compassion, only greed.

Very pleasant and convenient location for our visit to Williams college.
The house is very clean and spacious enough for our big family. It was a convenient drive to Jiminy, which made it easy enough for us to ski with a baby at the house. Elena was very responsive and helpful throughout our stay.
We really enjoyed the house. The location was great, and it was a cozy and warm way to spend a few days in December. The trampoline was a big hit with the kids.

Thank you Peter, I am happy you and your family enjoyed your stay.
We needed a break so we booked this house to work remotely. My wife and I both spent two weeks working in Zoom meetings with no issues. Place is remote while being a short drive from Jiminy (which we frequented for Coffee and breakfast sandwiches). Great place.
I can't say enough good things about our stay at Ed and Elena's house. The house is well kept, clean and has enough space for 2 small families to enjoy. Our kids (7,7, and 9) had the best time playing on the property (especially the trampoline and tree house) and the adults had plenty of time to relax by the fire. Of course there is plenty to do in the area as well. I will highly recommend this property to anyone looking to stay in the area and hope to come back and see some snow!
Had a very enjoyable stay. The home is very comfortable and spacious, and also has a bit of a rustic feel to it that fits well with the area and the outdoor features of the property. Communication with the hosts was excellent, very prompt, gracious and polite.
This property had everything that we needed! We loved sitting by the fire pit at night. The kitchen was well equipped and a perfect layout for socializing. There was a little market/gas station/package store less than ten minutes away that had everything we needed and more. The owners were quick to reply to any questions we had and offered recommendations when asked. This house would also be perfect if we chose to bring our kids (maybe next time lol). We would definitely book here again.
Our group of 5 (me, my 9 and 13 year old kids, my spouse and my mom) had a great weekend in the Berkshires! This rental is so conveniently located-it's a short and beautiful drive to most attractions. The home itself is perfect for a group! We took advantage of the grill, the yard and the amazing porch. I would return in a second. We cooked all our meals at home-it has everything you could need. We all slept well on comfy, clean beds and noticed how clean the kitchen and bathrooms were. We also appreciated the recs the hosts were able to give us!
The house exceeded my expectations! It is cozy and welcoming, we felt at home here. We had plenty of space with our two kids and dog. The outdoor space is relaxing and we used the fire pit every night.
The owners are very responsive and helpful! The check in process was easy too.
The location was great, secluded but not like we felt like we were in the middle of nowhere. Lots of cute towns to visit and places to explore relatively nearby.
We stayed for 5 days/4 nights and I did not want to leave!! Would recommend to anyone looking to visit the Berkshires!!
The house was clean and well-equipped. Very convenient location to hikes and museums in Northern and Central Berkshires. Communication with the hosts was excellent - they always responded very promptly and we felt well taken care of. The location is quite secluded, but there were a ton of things to do within half an hour drive, so our six days of vacation flew by. Highly recommend!
We had so much fun at Ed's and Elena's place! It was truly the perfect escape from the city-particularly in the COVID context-for my family. We were 6 in total-my husband, our two kids (ages 5 and 7) and my parents.
The layout of the house suited us perfectly, allowing for lots of family time but plenty of space to escape to a quiet spot to get some work done. We grilled outside almost every night, ate on the back deck, and also thoroughly enjoyed the fire pit. The home was well equipped with everything we needed for a very comfortable stay. There were even games and activities for the kids to enjoy.
The home is in a great location for outdoor fun. One of our favorite places we visited was Savoy Mountain State Forrest. The lake was beautiful, and the trails were so much fun. The kids particularly enjoyed finding salamanders along the trail. We loved the Ashuwillticook Rail Trail for biking. It was a beautiful and flat ride. We also very much enjoyed Mt. Hope Park where we could wade through the river, climb on rocks, check out the tiny fish, and picnic by the river. The local farm stands had wonderful fresh corn and berries. We also enjoyed visiting Williamstown, where we checked out the best toy store I've even been to, Where'd You Get That?, and had ice creams at Lickety Split. Guidos was a great option for groceries.
Ed and Elena were incredibly helpful and responsive to every question we had. Thank you so so much for a much-needed getaway and a chance to connect with nature! We hope to be back at some point in the fall.

About the host
Your host
My husband and I live in Darien CT with our 2 girls and this is our weekend house. We go there all the time but this year we will be spending the summer in Florida with family. The house has everything a family needs from new washer/drier, to a loaded kitchen.
Why they chose this property
The Bekshires are beautiful, and full of activities during the summer. The house is 10 minutes away from Mount Greylock, and 20 minutes away from hikes, concerts, fishing, restaurants, bicycling ... .etc
What makes this property unique
The house is located in a country road with only 3 other houses, and our kids love running up and down the mountain, finding salamanders, and playing in the tree house, while we enjoy the deck.
