Riverside Cottage is a quiet haven for two. Right on the East Stour river.
Riverside Cottage is a quiet little haven for two, only a stone's throw from the East Stour river. Beautifully furnished and overlooking farmland, this is a lovely spot for a relaxing break with great country walks from the doorstep and a good pub, the Farrier's Arms just a minute's walk from the front door. The village shop is less than half a mile up the road. Outside, you’ll have your own private patio, ideal for alfresco dinners and sit and watch the sunset, or a peaceful morning coffee.
Situated in the heart of the Kentish countryside it offers easy access to London via Ashford international station, is just 10 mins drive from the Channel Tunnel and 25 mins from Dover. Canterbury is just 20 min away and offers a great nightlife with bars and restaurants. Including the Boys Hall 17th Century boutique restaurant nearby and having been recently restored offers excellent food.
We are often lucky to see the hot air balloons coming from nearby Leeds Castle drifting low and Spitfire aircraft flying low above the property. It’s quite a sight.
As well as having the 16th Century Farriers Arms over the road we also have the recently refurbished Royal Oak near the corner shop at the top of the road, with an excellent menu - including a take away service.
Private parking directly to the right hand side of the gravel drive, with a short walk to cottage entrance at rear of property.
This is where you will find the key safe and your private patio area looking out across the fields.
If there are any problems during your stay please feel free to contact me or Vivien by mobile and if were around just call and know at the front door.
We can provide a travel cot and a high chair if you’re bringing a small child, but please call prior to arrange before your arrival?

After a long journey with heavy traffic it was a pleasure to have a warm greeting by the owners and to rest in this beautiful cottage . We had a lovely time at Lympne wild animal park, and the next day at Canterbury cathedral . Would highly recommend this accommodation and its setting in the countryside is just perfect

Peaceful location. Beautiful Sunsets
Tony was a pleasure to interact with before and during our stay. The cottage was spacious and comfortable. It was also well outfitted with supplies. Great little village with walking trails and pub that brews their own beer nearby. The cottage was also conveniently located and easy to get out and about each day.

This is a lovely cottage for two people with great views from the living area. It has all amenities and plenty of space to relax in. It is well situated for visiting south Kent and has the advantage of a pub a few yards away which does great food. The only issue we had was that the wifi did not have a strong signal.

About the host
Hosted by Tony Blakley
Vivien & Tony welcome you to Riverside. We have live here for 25 years - watching our three children grow up and fly the nest!
We are a retired couple enjoying our time together in the heart of Kent. Riverside Cottage has been a dream to develop as we enjoy meeting people and making their stay an enjoyable one.
Why they chose this property
This stunning self-catering holiday cottage is a short drive from the historic City of Canterbury (around 25 mins) which boasts a wealth of visitor attractions. In 1170 Archbishop Thomas Beckett was famously murdered in the Cathedral and thousands of Pilgrims play homage each year. The ancient ruins of St Augustine's Abbey and St Martin's Church all form part of UNESCO World Heritage Site. Nearby are the remains of a Norman Castle built on 1080 by the Normans and the large stone keep was largely constructed in the reign of Henry1 (1100-1135) all are reminders of the City's history, heritage & culture. Other attractions include, The King's mile, St Dunstan's, West Gate Towers, Northgate and The Canterbury Tales. You can take one of the River Tours and absorb the City with a boat trip along the River Stour taking in the architecture and scenic views. There are museums, walking trails or guided walks to help you enjoy the narrow winding lanes. Canterbury is best explored by foot. Canterbury is a place steeped in tradition and is also a modern and vibrant city with welcoming bars, pubs, nightclubs, fine restaurants, and a High Street with independent and high street names. Canterbury Golf Course is 1 mile distance from the City Centre and was designed by Henry Colt ain 1927 at the same time as designing Wentworth. There are two famous “links” courses at nearby Sandwich, Royal St Georges (home to The Open Championship in 2011) and Princes (Open Golf qualifying course).
What makes this property unique
The evening can be spent watching the sunset from the lounge or if warm enough - from the sun loungers on the private patio. With panoramic views across the fields - almost as far as Ashford in the distance. And if you are lucky to spend the Autumn at Riverside you will be amazed at the fields full of Pumpkins or Rape seed oil plants.
