Studio for Couples -Traditional Stone built - Rural location (Kefalas nr Vamos)

The studio is a traditional stone built cottage with bags of character, renovated and equipped to a high standard. The studio is located in an olive grove (in approximately 2 acres of private land), on the outskirts of the village. Kefalas is a traditional village near Vamos, at the heart of the Apokoronas region of the Chania Perfecture.
The accommodation comprises an open plan lounge / dining / bedroom with an open fire, a kitchen area and a separate shower room / toilet. Outdoor space includes the use of a large covered veranda with a dining table and chairs (at the front of the property) and also a comfortable sofa . There is a further terrace with BBQ under a large walnut tree (behind the house).
Kefalas is a traditional village with all the essential amenities, including 2 supermarkets, kafeneions, tavernas, and a cheese factory about a 10-minute walk away. The bustling village of Vamos is about 6km away.

There are numerous blue flag beaches within easy reach (about 15 - 20 minutes by car). The most spectacular of all (and also our 'local') is Octopus Bay, 6km from the house. Not a beach as such, but more like a spectacular plunge pool in the sea, excellent for snorkelling and similar activities!
Walking trails with spectacular views, historic landmarks and beautiful scenery criss-cross the area.
The studio is a perfect base for couples wishing to explore Western Crete. The Venetian towns of Chania and Rethymno are each about 35 minutes by car. The nearby National Road provides easy access to the wide range of attractions Western Crete has to offer, including Samaria Gorge, Gramvousa, Elafonisi, Lake Kournas, Aptera, Falasarna. Heraklian (and Knossos) is approximately 2 hours by car. South coast locations such as Sougia, Loutro, Plakias, Damnoni, Agia Galini, and even as far as Matala, can all be reached on a day trip
Closer to base you'll find some delightful, traditional towns (Vamos, Vryses, Kalives, Almyrida, Georgiopoli) and villages, excellent beaches and archeological attractions. There are numerous opportunities for walks directly from the house, and also a short drive away. With our local knowledge, we can provide you with details of off-the-beaten track places to visit, walks and excursions.

one week in greece nature

We were warmly welcomed by Johanna and the parrots. Small villages are passed on the way to the villa and local markets are within walking distance. We would come right back next year!

Even better than what we have imagined

We discover our host property in the middle of olive trees, wild nature and beautifull garden. Johanna was here waiting for you and she gave us all possible information on the apartment accommodations and the surrounding. Everything was perfect. Johanna is a great home designer and the appartment has a soul. It is is a unique and great place, in a lovely and full of life Cretan village. Thank you.

Das Haus liegt mitten in einem Olivenhain außerhalb eines kleinen Örtchens mit drei Tavernen, also ab vom großen Tourismusrummel. Wir haben die Ruhe und den Aufenthalt in wunderschönem Ambiente genossen. Johanna war sehr nett und auch sehr hilfreich mit Tipps. Beste Ausgangsbasis für Wanderungen.

We first fell in love with Crete and its people in 2009. Following many visits (twice a year), we decided to make it our home. After a lengthy search, we purchased the property in 2015, and started creating our dream. We now live here permanently. We are certainly don't consider ourselves to be retired... as there is still too much living to be done!
In 2018 we were ready to start offering the two properties for short term rental, and we take great pleasure in sharing our dream with our guests!
The original property is just over 4000 square meters (an acre of land). In 2020 we were fortunate to be offered an adjacent peace of land (approximately 3500 square meters) for sale. The purchase was eventually completed in 2022. The land was previously used for grazing, and features many beautiful wild flowers. Our intentions are to leave this land undeveloped, with the exception of some fruit trees and vegetable garden.

Why they chose this property

This was the original house when we first purchased the property. We had no electricity and no hot water, but it was our peace of heaven - away from everyone and everything.
It was a bit like camping, but in a stone house, surrounded by wild flowers and fruit trees. The open fireplace sealed the deal! But don't fear! we do now have all the essential amenities in place.

What makes this property unique

The studio very cute, has bags of character and has a very relaxed feel to it. It is equipped to a high standard, including luxurious French linen bedding, and an orthopedic bed to ensure an excellent night's sleep.
It is an authentic Cretan cottage, built by local craftsmen from local materials.
It is located in a rural setting, on the outskirts of a traditional village with few tourists
