About this property
Chinkwell Tor barn near Widecombe in the Moor
A beautiful converted barn nestled in the rugged landscape of Dartmoor National Park. With three double rooms and two bathrooms there is plenty of room and the large lounge/ kitchen-dining area has a log burner and a range cooker to help keep you cosy (as well as central heating).
Please note Chinkwell is a little off grid. Powered by a combination of solar power and a generator; you cannot charge electric vehicles.
This is a peaceful and restful place to stay with excellent walking from the doorstep. There are views of the Tors and you can walk to both Hay Tor and Hound Tor as well as a nearby Clapper bridge and the deserted remains of a medieval settlement. A green lane leads down towards nearby pastureland where you are likely to see Dartmoor ponies. Nearby Widecombe-In-The- Moor, famed for its annual fair has two pubs and some of the best tea rooms in Dartmoor.
Come and fall in love with the dramatic Dartmoor landscape in all seasons, enjoy seeing the carpet of bluebells in Spring, visits to the nearby coast in Summer, and snuggling up in front of the log burner with a cup of cocoa after a bracing Autumn or Winter walk.
The kitchen is well equipped with everything that you might need to prepare a meal, plus a range cooking guide. There is a fridge-freezer, dish washer, and washing machine/ dryer.
The lounge has a large log burner (logs are provided) and a television with a choice of DVDs to watch as well as books, magazines and board games.
There are two double bedrooms with downstairs separated by one of the bathrooms. Upstairs there is another large double room with en-suite bathroom. All bed linen is high thread count pure cotton and towels are provided. A hairdryer can be found in each bedroom.
A cot and high chair are provided, as is an iron and ironing board.
The large flagged entrance hall has a large coat rack and storage for muddy walking boots.
Outside the building is a large picnic table for al fresco dining!
Dogs are welcome, though we ask that they are not allowed in bedrooms or on the furniture.
Smoking is not permitted inside the property.
Please note that Chinkwell is within Dartmoor national park and there are also farm animals and horses in the vicinity so we ask that you do not set off fireworks at any time.

About the host
Hosted by Rebekah

An avid traveller and clinical writer who works from home. I love to walk (hence the barn in Dartmoor) and also enjoy horse riding. I am a keen reader and member of a book club, and also enjoy cooking and eating out.
Favourite holiday destinations include Thailand and Malaysia, as well as France, Italy and Greece. Chosen in a large part due to the food there!
I have done a lot of backpacking but nowadays I like to travel in more comfort and I aim to provide that at Chinkwell Tor.

Why they chose this property
My husband fell in love with Chinkwell Tor when he came to view it and despite it taking us almost a year to purchase we were determined to make this beautiful place our holiday home.
What makes this property unique
The ability to walk onto Dartmoor National park from the property itself is wonderful, and the fresh air and peaceful atmosphere ensures that you always feel refreshed after a stay. We also loved the fact that we could walk to nearby WIdecombe in the Moor where our favourite tea room and one of our favourite pubs is located.
