Absolutely wonderful! Jane and her family were a total delight and incredibly generous - and the barn was perfect for our family (large, nicely kitted out and with everything you might need) and located in the most stunning setting.
My wife and I (plus) dog had a lovely week staying at Shewte farm. Perfect for the humans to relax and plenty of space for the dog to run around (he definitely didn't want to leave).
Walks from the door plus lots to see and do within a short drive. We especially enjoyed lunch at Riverford Field Kitchen and a walk around Wonwell Beach. The Parke estate (National Trust) is right next door to Shewte and our dog particularly liked jumping in the river there.
Jane provided a warm welcome and lots of useful, local advice.
Overall, a great week. Highly recommended.
Beautifully restored farmhouse barn with stunning views
As many have commented, the description doesn't do justice to the beauty of this place. Lovely antique furniture, perfect rural setting, close to Dartmoor and amazing walks, idyllic sunsets, lovely sunny patio, and friendly owner/farmers (also sheep, cats, and dogs). Jane couldn't have been more helpful. We certainly hope to return.
I cannot say enough good things about this property. It was even more stunning in person than I imagined it would be. The barn was magnificent and perfect for our needs. The owner is lovely. The area is unbelievably beautiful. It was such an epic week. :-)
A well-equipped superbly renovated stone barn in the middle of an 80 acre farm right on the edge of the moor. Great views from the barn's giant windows, lots of space inside and out, practical and welcoming for dogs. We spent a week walking the dogs, visiting the local pubs and villages and, of course, eating the cake from the generous welcome basket. Sad to leave as ever.
Lovely property, well maintained and extremely clean! Jane gave us a very warm welcome and left us some delicious treats.
Great location for exploring Devon.
Will definitely be going back!
Thanks to Jane and family for a lovely stay. We spent the week with our young family and really enjoyed the property which was of a very high standard. We enjoyed some family walks from their front door, stones throw from the Moors, very relaxing setting and Jane and family were very friendly and went above and beyond on a number of occasions and genuinely cared about us having an enjoyable stay. Would highly recommend.
We have just returned from a fabulous family holiday. Everything surpassed our expectations. The barn is extremely well equipped with high quality linen and towels, superb showers with loads of hot water, fantastic kitchen with all equipment one might need. Absolutely stunning views from all windows and the garden. Nearby Bovey Tracey had everything we needed for food shopping. Lovely walks from the door, close to Dartmoor and an easy trip to the coast. We all loved it (our dog definitely lived his best life!) and can't wait to return! Many thanks Jane for all the helpful communications and lists of things to do.
Lovely place cradled by green hills a wonderful area to relax and wind down in. Lovely walks plenty to do and see, we even tried the outdoor pool at Bovey Tracey. Tranquility only interrupted by plenty of wild life truly a great escape from busy lifestyles. Recommended on all fronts.
Really lovely stay in a stunning location. Communication was excellent and we were made to feel very welcome. The welcome cake and birthday cake we ordered were both fantastic. Great walks locally and saw lots of wildlife. Would highly recommend to others!
We just loved our stay at the barn. Everything was as described, and communication with Jane was good before and during. An evening spent outside star-watching was magical - the most amazing night sky! We hope to return some day. Highly recommended.
Amazing location with spectacular 360 degree views within easy reach of incredible walks, sights and pubs/restaurants, excellent fish & chips, supermarket, deli, butcher & baker only 7 minute drive in Bovey Tracey. Very dog friendly, set in its own 80 acres of stunning Dartmoor countryside, an abundance of wildlife on the doorstep; buzzards, deer, nightjars and bats, we even saw a pair of fox cubs playing in one of the fields from our bedroom window early one morning. Facilities are fantastic, Jane the owner had left us a fabulous Victoria sponge cake which was delicious and stocked the kitchen/house with the supplies that others always overlook; tea, coffee, condiments, kitchen roll, plenty of toilet roll, tea towels, and towels etc. Bedding is really good quality and the beds are all very comfortable (easily the best equipped holiday property we’ve stayed in). This is a great base for touring Dartmoor/Devon, very well located, perfect for a relaxing break and set up for families of all ages. We would not hesitate to recommend this property to our friends and others and very much hope to have the opportunity to return in the future.
Wonderful property on a beautiful estate. Everything absolutely clean and very well kept. We felt very welcome by the owner. We will miss waking up to that beautiful view. I am sure we will be back as one week is not enough to see and do everything around this part of Devon.
Wonderful place to stay . So peaceful , no light pollution - we all slept really well including the seven month old baby . ! Fabulous walks in all directions . We loved the early morning walks across the fields to the stream and the dog ‘swimming pool ‘.
Very comfortable and well maintained barn in an extremely convenient yet secluded location. Good car parking and easy access - features not to be underestimated on Dartmoor! Friendly and helpful owners on site are a reassuring presence. Games room was a real bonus and a great hit with the children, especially in the rain.
Such a great family christmas in a wonderful lication and beautiful barn. Jane was a brilliant host and nothing was too much trouble...even down to providing a christmas tree and lights. Cleanliness was spot on and everything you could wish for....I just want to move in😂 Thank you so much.
wonderful Barn renovation; so light and bright and BIG rooms -fab!! very happy with all things, great kitchen, bedrooms, excellent firewood supply and log burner. We get to Dartmoor at least once yearly and plan to return; hope there is a availability as I would expect many feel the same way.
Exceptional renovated barn in close proximity to the original farmhouse. We were able to walk directly out of the property into farmland within Dartmoor National Park. Views were incredible and accommodation first class.
Stone Barn is in a wonderful setting, lovely and peaceful. We have thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Thankyou.
