The property was built in the early eighteenth century, according to a typology then widespread with barrel vaults. In ancient times it served as a lookout tower inside the lemon terraces then, in 1875, following the abandonment of the adjacent Lone Church, the tower was transformed into a Sacred Chapel to accommodate, until the beginning of the 900, the Madonna di Lone. On that occasion, the first decorations were made, at times still existing. At the beginning of 1920 it was transformed into a residential house.
In 2010, major renovations were made to the building by the current owner: the 'tower' with its large wall of about 160 cm, has become a luxury bathroom with the original decorations of the time. Adjacent to it is a frescoed bedroom in which stands out on the headboard of the original painting of the Madonna located at the time in the Old Chapel. The property is located in a beautiful location, overlooking the sea and the famous natural 'arc of love' that for years has been the testimonial of the famous chocolates 'Baci Perugina'.
The Villa is in a very convenient position to reach, by car or public transport, all the other locations of the Coast.
To reach the property there are 104 comfortable steps to climb from the coastal road. The stairs are the characteristic of all the houses of Amalfi that was built on the slopes of the mountain that embraces the sky and sea. It is a very romantic villa with a spectacular view; ideal for those who want a holiday immersed in tradition and the scents of the sea and nature.
In APRIL 2019 the structure has undergone a complete restyling with the renovation of all the interior furnishings and the complete renovation of the outdoor area.

Stayed for only a couple nights but it was amazing. House was great and the location cant be beaten. Check in was easy, and included a tour of the home and some local tips (which we needed). Couldnt have been better!

Beautiful property, helpful owner!

Villa Lauro is beautiful! The garden area and hot tub was perfect after our long days at the beach or sightseeing. Giulia was very helpful and accommodating. We really enjoyed our stay at the villa and along the Amalfi Coast.

Dream Vacation Spot

Many times the homes in real life don't look as fabulous as the pics on the app but this is a rare exception where this home exceeded the pics and offered an exceptional sense of cleanliness, beauty, spectacular views & comfort. The host offered amazing reliability to assist with transport, dining options and anything we needed assistance with. We felt cared for, like part of the family. This sets the bar way high!! I'll be returning for sure! :)

The Villa is as advertised

First visit to Italy. First vacation rental. The overall experience couldn’t have been better. The terrace area makes this property unique. The attention to detail in the Villa is everywhere. The views are incredible and the location makes it easy to enjoy the entire Amalfi Coast. Our four night family stay at the Villa Lauro was the highlight of our trip.

Wonderful experience

Villa Lauro was a fabulous home away from home on the coast. We had no issues staying at the Villa. Giulia was a dream, and went above and beyond during our stay. From assisting us with a special birthday dinner one night at the villa to helping us locate and retrieve a bag that we left one night at a local restaurant, she was superb! It was very difficult to leave Villa Lauro. I hope to return to this very special place soon!

Perfect for us

Villa is a beautiful as everyone says. It is about a 25 minute walk to Amalfi center down hill, 35 back uphill. We used the bus often which was easy, can use $20-$30 euros each way, which seemed excessive for the short ride. Walking the endless steps in the summer heat was tough. I recommend having the dinner catered at the villa one night. They did a great job. Giulia is awesome and very responsive to any needs.

A lovely oasis in the bustle of Amalfi

The Villa is only a couple km outside Amalfi ( easily walkable along the rather exciting road!) but it is a wonderful respite from the tourist craziness. The deck is amazing for breakfast and at the end of the day and the villa is very comfortable for 5-6 people. Giulia is also an excellent property manager - great communication and very helpful especially with transportation. Also the beach just down from the villa is a jewel - way less crowded and very lovely. And with almost 500 steps you earn your pasta! My only “ could be better” are the bathroom amenities. They should be what a nice hotels do and they were a little chintzy. But it is a tiny complaint to an overall lovely stay! Fun was had by all!

Great historic property, beautifully restored complete with the quintessential views.

We were two couples and the property was perfect. it is lovely, spacious, comfortable, and provides a very welcoming experience. Complete with terraces and a garden patio all with killer water views. The location provides privacy and calm compared to the bustle of tourists in Amalfi and Positano. And while it is a bus ride to town it is easy and convenient. Since you can't buy the bus tickets until you visit the tabachi shop in town, the first trip may require an over priced taxi ride, or very careful walk. It would be great if the property provided a couple bus tix upon check in allowing guests to avoid the nasty Amalfi taximen for the first visit to town. If you can prior to arrival try and purchase a few bus tickets, as the GAS Bar near the property does not sell bus tix (much to our surprise). With that small rant out of the way, the property has a nice wine selection all at reasonable prices, and I would suggest buying some ground espresso and use the espresso makers provided (and skip the pods for sale in the kitchen). The property is well cared for, very comfortable and with dreamy views. A couple of the nearby cliff side restaurants will pick you up for dinner and drop you off after, we did this and it was a great evening! Ask at check in about these restaurants. It is also near to the Path of the Gods, a wonderful 3 hour rustic view trail high on the hill above the sea.

Perfect Family get-away

Guilia was very helpful with the arrangements for our family holiday in Amalfi. She quickly responded to messages. She was able to arrange the transfer from airport to house, return to Naples with a stop in Pompei, private chef for dinner at the house, private boat charter and even stocking up on wines for the house! For the activities, she connected us with the operator and we could manage the payments directly to them. (plan ahead with cash in case the credit card machine is not working). All the operators were very helpful and communicated with us through Whatsapp. Definitely get a driver booked! The house was very nice - have to be aware of the steps! This would not be a good place for anyone with mobility issues. Porters were arranged to assist with bags up and down the stairs upon check in and departure. Unfortunately we did not have great weather so could not fully enjoy the hot tub and outdoor patio - bummer since that was the features that really drew us to this property. If staying here - I would recommend having the chef to prepare dinner 1 or 2 nights. Transportation down to the town of Amalfi was inconsistent with availability of taxis, and also costs ~40 euro each way, depending time and number of people. There are not many restaurants within walking distance. The closest spot "Gas Bar" - perfect for morning coffee and pastry does serve foods in the evenings, however they are closed on Mondays, which was the 1 night we didnt have meal plans!

Beautiful house and garden with stunning view!

Villa Lauro was paradise on earth! The garden was gorgeous with an incredible view in all directions. The view from the balcony--off the bedroom and living room--was equally gorgeous. The house was quiet and peaceful, close enough to Amalfi to walk to it in 15 minutes, but far enough away from the crowds of tourists to feel almost like a local. There was a market within 10 minutes (by car), and a cafe/pizzeria just a 2-minute walk from the house. Simply put, Villa Lauro was a beautiful home with a gorgeous view: a perfect base to explore the Amalfi Coast. Our only quibbles: the jacuzzi was not a hot tub jacuzzi. It was more like a small pool with jets that had cool water in it, to enjoy on hot summer nights, to cool off. This was NOT a hot tub jacuzzi to warm you up on a chilly autumn night. It was not designed to hold hot water. Simply cool water. So that was a bit disappointing because when I read the word jacuzzi online, I thought it was a hot tub jacuzzi. Also, it was a pity the kitchen didn't have basic cooking items like olive oil and sugar, etc. for coffee. It would be nice to arrive and find just a few basics in the refrigerator, like coffee and milk. That said, there was a lovely bottle of wine left as a gift when we arrived. The kitchen itself was the only room in the house that was less than ideal, as it had no windows. We were glad, however, there was a kitchen area in the garden, which proved very useful, since we had all our meals there. All in all, Villa Lauro is a beautiful home with a garden that is like paradise on a cliff above the sea. Communication with Guilia was excellent and for those who speak very little Italian, she speaks very good English. She was also very kind to get us a porter to carry our bags up and down the stairs on our arrival and our departure. Also very useful was the parking spot Guilia reserved for us (at a small daily cost) very close to the house. Even the parking lot had a stunning view. If you're looking for the perfect home base on the Amalfi Coast, you've found it.

Wonderful family vacation

We just returned from a seven night stay at the Villa Lauro, and could not have had a better experience. We were a family of 6 adults, and found the 3 bedrooms to be perfect for our needs..it would also work well for 3 couples traveling together. The views from the terrace and the garden were breath-taking with terraced lemon groves and the blue/green water taking center stage. Every morning we awoke to roosters crowing and church bells ringing out the time. The villa had everything you would need to be comfortable as well as a fully stocked kitchen if you wanted to cook. We took advantage of the grocery delivery service for basic necessities which I would recommend. The villa also has an agreement with a nearby venue that has a beautiful infinity pool overlooking the coast. They charge a small fee per person and have a van that will pick you up and drop you off near the villa. Our family utilized it twice when we were in need of relaxation, it was beautiful, and had delicious food. The owner's daughter Giulia, was extremely helpful, and had great recommendations for restaurants, and other things to do. She was very prompt in responding to questions both before and during our stay. They also have a cleaning service come mid stay to change sheets and towels. The cleaning woman was lovely and we laughed a lot trying to speak Italian/English. We rented a minivan to drive ourselves.. the villa has an agreement with a local lot to park your car during your stay for a fee. We would call Andrea the parking assistant, and he would promptly bring or pickup the car as we needed it. The villa is an easy walk to Amalfi, we drove or took ferries to the other towns along the Amalfi Coast. It was still low season, and we did not have any problem finding parking lots in the larger towns (Positano, Praiano, and Ravello). They charged between 3 and 5 Euros/hour depending on location, but as we live near NYC, the ease of parking outweighed the cost for us. The Amalfi coast is built on the vertical..the villa has 100+ stairs up from the road to the front door, but they have a porter to carry your luggage on arrival and departure. My husband had a total hip replacement in February, and was able to do them without difficulty. We enjoyed the stairs because they allowed us to eat anything we wanted! In closing, I would highly recommend the Villa Lauro to anyone who is looking for a beautiful, comfortable location to base themselves in the Amalfi Coast.

Beautiful Italian villa in a great location

Two families shared this Villa for a week and we thoroughly enjoyed our Italian experience! The home and view is beautiful, Guila, our hostess, was a great communicator and very patient with our crew! She checked in throughout the week and was helpful with making reservations and recommendations. We had never visited the Amalfi coast and had a hard time before our trip understanding the surrounding area. The GAS bar is steps away and is a great amenity located very close to the villa. Not only is it a fun place, but you can get espresso, a cocktail and great food with a view! Very handy to have nearby. We booked a private chef and a boat for two days during our stay. Each individual we worked with was top-notch. She also referred us to a cab driver who took care of us throughout the week.If you are looking for a true Italian holiday, look no further! Thank you, Guilia and team for a beautiful week!

Amalfi Home

This house was fantastic, the view was amazing, the property manager was incredibly responsive and the activities were amazing (do not miss out on the boat trip to Capri and the cooking class)! Amalfi Magic!

After a few bustling days in Rome our stay in Amalfi was peaceful and joyful. From the moment we met Giulia and entered Villa Lauro we were caught up in the magic. Every room a delight. Sunshine, amazing views, airy space, everything we hoped for and more. Yes, the stairs must be reckoned with but we got better and better at them. Being oldest I was fine, just had to be smart about my pace UP! Going down was a joy. The pool much enjoyed and needed! We had a blast. We loved the location. We loved Gas Bar. We loved Villa Lauro!

Amazing Amalfi Coast

Villa Lauro is an incredible property and Giulia was probably the best host I’ve ever have dealt with. From the very beginning of booking this property, she contacted me and assisted in helping plan our entire trip. From our private boat guided tour of the Amalfi Coast, Pompei tour, Ravello, Positano, dinners, private chef, delivered breakfasts every morning set up on the patio, she couldn’t have been more helpful or quick to respond. The Villa itself is gorgeous as well. Yes, there are a lot of stairs to get to it but Giulia arranged porters to help with the bags (even for our 4:30AM departure to get back to Rome) and what is at the end of the climb is well worth it. Such an amazing property, from the view to the patio to the Villa itself, it really is perfect. The location was also great. Just outside the gates to the Villa is the GAS Bar which has drink, snacks and a restaurant upstairs with, what we thought was really good food! Sandwiches, pizza’s, pasta, appetizer. We ate there a couple of times and always enjoyed it. A very quick ride to Amalfi (it was a 40 Euro cab ride for a 5 min ride, which seemed a bit excessive) and we arranged drivers to visit the other beautiful cities along the coast. The only thing that I couldn’t tell from the pictures is that the patio isn’t connected to the Villa. It’s just outside the front door down a few stairs. There is a great balcony connected to Villa. Would love to come back!

Mixed feelings

We expected and understood the steps to get up to the Villa. What was not expected was the steep staircase inside the villa to the upstairs bedroom and the difficulty in managing multiple levels within that tight space. The youngest couple in our group (50's) stay in that room, but they had fallen off the platform bed during the first night and were reluctant to repeat the experience. They ended up having to sleep in the living room.

Villa Lauro Is Amazing!

My friends and I stayed at this spectacular Villa in Amalfi and it was one of the greatest experiences of our lives. The Host is amazing and she was very informative and easy to work with. The bedroom and amenities were spacious and beautiful. The best part of this place was the outside area/terrace. It was very spacious with stunning views of the water and the Amalfi coast. We had a group of 9 friends plus an infant spend 4 nights here and it was well worth it. I couldn’t recommend this place more, book it.
