A renovated Cortijo, Las Rosas offers versatile accommodation (inspected, recommended and featured in the guidebook 'Alastair Sawday's Special Places to Stay in Spain').
It can be configured to suit a couple, a family or a group of friends and families, up to a maximum of 10 guests. Private courtyards, and a pool overlooking tranquil olive groves allow guests to chill and relax.
Casita Liebre (meaning Little Hare House) is reached through the original farmyard doors leading onto the private courtyard and is one of three possible cottages.
Accessed from the courtyard via french doors, the accommodation is based in the oldest part of the reformed Cortijo, with low beamed ceilings and niches retained from the original building.
There is a lounge, with large comfortable Moorish style divan sofas and a log burner for cool winter evenings. There is also satellite television. French doors provide light and access to the courtyard. An open staircase leads upstairs
A low doorway takes you into the fully equipped kitchen which also opens onto the courtyard through French doors.
There is a full sized electric oven/ hob plus a fridge with a freezer compartment - essential for cooling the local beer and wine! A good range of plates, pots, glasses etc. allow for home from home, relaxed food preparation. Basics (such as salt, pepper, oil, washing up liquid etc.) are provided as part of our service. There is a kitchen table to seat four for dining.
Upstairs there are two twin/double bedrooms, both with ensuite bathrooms, under a pitched beamed roof. Both bedrooms have comfortable twin beds (or a double, if required); a wardrobe; a small dressing table and each opens into a bathroom with walk-in shower; toilet and basin.
Outside there is a large private courtyard planted with jasmine and lavender, surrounded by traditional high white walls. You are not overlooked by the other casitas. There is outside seating for relaxing and a table for eating, with sails providing shade on our hot Andaluz summer days. A barbecue allows you to make the most of outside living.
The communal patio and pool area is shared by a maximum of 10 guests and is set on the side of the hill facing fantastic views of the valley, hills and olive groves. There are tables and chairs provided for eating, or sitting with a cool drink and watching the sun set…… There are also cushioned loungers for sun worshippers! The pool is set on the edge of the patio and has a comfortable seating ledge in the water, giving you somewhere to sit and keep cool whilst you read or just gaze at the view…..
There is an outside shower room with toilet and basin so that you do not have to return to your casita once ensconced in the sunshine.
There is also a laundry room accessed from the pool patio area, with a washing machine, wash basin, iron and ironing board for communal use.
An hour and a half from the airports of Malaga and Granada, the secluded setting of Cortijo las Rosas, amidst tranquil olive groves, gives guests a chance to chill out and relax around the pool between days out visiting historic and cultural centres within easy reach: Antequera, Alcala la Real, Cordoba, Granada, Malaga, Ronda, Seville etc...
Taste the oil produced from the renowned olives of the Subbetica; enjoy the local wines from Montilla or the Anis produced in nearby Rute; barbecue the plentiful fish and seafood available or let us organise a takeaway from nearby Molino los Justos with its traditional “home cooking.” Our local town, Algarinejo, boasts the restaurant Casa Piolas which features in Jon Clarke’s “Dining Secrets of Andalucía” – their Menu de Degustación is an experience not to be missed!
Nearby Lake Iznajar offers a beach with pedalos and kayaks for hire with a beach bar on hand for cool drinks or eating. Walkers have the freedom to explore the countryside of the Subbetica right from their doorstep - or to walk amongst the extraordinary rock formations of El Torcal. El Chorro Gorge offers the adventurous a chance to experience the spectacular Camino del Rey or to trek around our local “mesa” overlooking the lake, and examine the archaeological dig carried out by the University of Granada – you might have to share the view with the goatherd and his goats...
