About this property
Charming cottage in the heart of the ancient village.
This charming stone-built grade II listed Georgian, Lancashire weavers’ cottage is bursting with character. It houses 3 large bedrooms and 2 living areas, Kitchen, Bathroom (plus a separate toilet), Utility Room and a lovely small garden with plenty of character. As well as modern creature comforts this home is furnished with some lovely old antiques, original artwork and signed prints.
Located within what was the Roman encampment of Ribchester, a small English village on the edge of the Forest of Bowland with the River Ribble running right through it. This cottage is set in the heart of the village and backs onto a village park with sport facilities.
The first room you encounter on entering the property is the cosy sitting room with an open fire and ample seating plus a 43” Smart TV. This is a great place to relax after a busy day exploring beautiful Lancashire. Further into the house is the dinning room with its own log burning stove and access to the kitchen/dinner. The kitchen has been renewed in 2018 and is modern and well equipped and has all you need to prepare a lovely meal for your loved ones. There is a small downstairs “loo” and utility room containing a washing machine and dishwasher, beyond the kitchen.
The garden at the back of the property is accessed from the kitchen door or via the shared ginnal (A narrow passageway or alley often between terraced houses) from the road. The garden is surrounded by many flowering shrubs, contains a large number of small birds and is furnished with a garden table and chairs.
The stairs lead you to the first floor where you will find the large “Cream” bedroom with a decommissioned stone fireplace and a super-King bed (this can also be made into two single beds). On the same floor is the spacious house bathroom.
Following the stairway up to the next floor, you will find the “Blue Bedroom” with its unusual window at floor level containing two long single beds, which can be made into one super-king. Next door is the “Pink Room” containing a double bed.
Ribchester is a beautiful Lancashire village set in the heart of the Ribble Valley. In the village there is a Spar/Post Office, a Sandwich Shop/Deli, Café, two Pubs plus the one across the road is being refurbished and an Art Gallery. Also to enjoy is the Café, Wine Shop and Garden Centre at Stydd 0.5 miles away, where the afternoon tea is highly recommended.
Ribchester has its own Roman Museum, next to the church of St Wilfred, which stands where the Roman fort of Bremetenaccum was located. A ten minute walk from the village stands the 1190 St Saviour’s Knights Templar Church in Stydd. Ribchester has its own municipal tennis courts open to all and a significant playing field. There are many public footpaths and cycle routes alongside the River Ribble and around Ribchester as well as in the forest and moorland of Longridge Fell a couple of miles outside the village. The Preston Guild Wheel Cycle route is only a few miles away and for young and old nature lovers a trip to Brockenholes Nature Reserve is a must!
The Ribble Valley is famous for its gastropubs and cuisine from the Michelin stared Northcote Manor Restaurant and Cookery School to the Multi Award Winning You and Yu Chinese Restaurant and the famous Inn at Whitewell.
Ribchester is within an hour of Skipton, The Lake District, Lancaster, Blackpool, Morcombe, Southport, Manchester and Liverpool.
BAE Systems at Salmesbury Aerodrome is a 10 minute drive away with both Preston and Blackburn Cities being approximately 20 Minutes away. Stonyhurst College is about 10 minutes away and the local town of Longridge contains a delightful old working cinema and a good mixture of supermarkets and local independent shopping.
