About this property

Tradewinds fisherman’s cottage, Brixham, great location with beautiful sea views

‘Tradewinds’ is a charming fisherman’s’ cottage situated in Customs Court, just off the harbour. This area of Brixham was well known for its smugglers hatches and secret routes passing right under the nose of the old Customs Cottages housing the Customs Officers dating back some 300 years!
The cottage is brimming with charm and character including historic sea charts, exposed stone walls and old beams. Tradewinds is a very light, bright and airy cottage built over four levels with two bedrooms (the master with.king size bed and second bedroom twin beds) both enjoying superb harbour and sea views.
Tradewinds location is excellent; a real crow’s nest perched over Brixham offering an intimate view of the water’s edge, which is literally 50 metres walk away.

Brixham is rapidly embracing fine cuisine and cafe culture, you will find many places to sit and enjoy the harbour views and relax into a slower pace of life. As Brixham is a fishing port many of the town's restaurants specialise in fresh fish and you can regularly find the 'catch of the day' being served. Also, the South West Coastal Path is close to the property, with many other fine local walking areas.

Paignton is within easy reach and is one of the most popular destinations for families in the English Riviera. The area has a host of attractions; restaurants, cafes, cinema, beautiful golden sands and the popular Paignton Zoo that will keep the whole family entertained. The property is also perfectly positioned to take the steam train to Kingswear, ferry to Dartmouth or to visit Dartmoor and the many National Trust properties that Devon has to offer.

About the host

Hosted by Jo Sampson and Lee Oldfield

Host profile image
I am originally from Bristol and moved to Brixham to teach at the local secondary school. My husband Lee is a stained glass artist and has renovated our present house, a 300 year old cottage in Brixham.

We saw Trade winds cottage and instantly fell in love with its character and quirks so decided to share this passion with others. We love hosting and always strive to ensure all our guests have a lovely stay in Brixham in a comfortable characterful cottage that is only a stones throw away from the harbour.

Why they chose this property

My family are originally from Torbay and so I spent much of my childhood visiting the area, visiting local beaches, swimming in the sea, walking along the coastal paths and on the moors as well as watching the wildlife. I always knew that I would eventually return to Torbay and was fortunate enough to be able to do so.

What makes this property unique

Trade winds is a unique, quirky and characterful fisherman’s cottage only 2 minutes walk to the harbour in Brixham.

The cottage is cosy and very comfortable with a well equipped kitchen.

The views of the harbour and sea from the top bedrooms are stunning and there are window seats where you can pass to time of day watching the boats or simply read a book.

Free parking is available 5 minutes walk from the cottage. Parking is also available at Oxen cove car park and permits can be purchased on arrival. ( 4 day pass £29 or 8 day pass £52)
