This typically Normand style timber framed house - the presence of bricks and stone and the timber frame is characteristic of regional houses in Normandy - is only a short walk away from the old town centre of Honfleur and the Harbour. Honfleur is one of the most visited place in France after Paris and Versailles !
The house dates back to the 17th and 18th Centuries. It was part of Lucie Delarue Mardrus’ property called Le Pavillon de la Reine. Honfleur was Lucie Delarue Mardrus’ hometown. She was a writer and poet and married Doctor Mardrus who was one of the major translators of 1001 Nights into French.
The house has been restored in 2012 by local craftsmen and most of its original features have been kept., including the narrow spiral staircases and the low beams! Please mind your heads. Please note that the house may not be suitable for person with mobility issues.
The house is laid out on 3 levels:
On the ground floor, you will share:
1) a well equipped kitchen, 2) a small living-room with its wood burning stove, 3) a large living-room with a sitting area and its open fireplace, and a dining area (table seats 12), 4) a large bathroom with an Italian style shower and a toilet, 5) a utility room with a washer-dryer and a sink.
You have 2 staircases leading to the 2 sides of the house on the upper floors.
On one side:
On the first floor, a large master's bedroom with its ensuite bathroom. Queen size bed. The room is big enough to add a cot if needed or/and an extra bed for a small child. The bathroom has its own tolet and a bath in which you also have a standing shower.
On the second floor, a children's bedroom with its own toilet and sink so as not to disturb mummy and daddy at night ;-) The 2 single beds can also be arranged as a King size double beds in case you want adults to use this room.
On the other side:
On the first floor, a large master's bedroom, with an old fashion cot, a TV/library room with comfortable seats and a sofa so that teenagers or children can stay away from adults ;-), a large bathroom with a big shower and a sink and a separate toilet.
On the second floor, 2 bedrooms, each with either 2 single beds or 1 double bed - Queen size and King size.
Please note that there's another house on the property, La Bergerie, and that the two houses share the entrance gate. The gate is located close to La Ferme, but the two houses are well apart from each other and have each their outdoor area.
