About this property
Private Cottage On 58 acres
Carefully restored over 18 months, "The Cottage" is reminiscent of turn of the century agricultural structures originally found throughout the South. Located in Mineola Texas, the cottage sits on a beautiful 58 acres with fishing ponds, woods and meadows, is very comfortable and unique containing period correct artifacts, furniture and art. From the massive oak framing, to the tongue and groove walls, beadboard ceilings and variety of pine hardwood flooring, this structure was built to stand the test of time. The builder and former owner was one of the first individuals to ever sketch and document the plant and animal life as well as the topographical features in this part of East Texas and at a time when the area was growing and changing rapidly. A naturalist and rancher, this 58 acre retreat was his "Walden". Homestead Cottage housed his woodworking shop and the upstairs loft was his study where he filed his naturalist diaries and records going back to the 30's. He also was the original recycler and would store items collected from decades of salvaging and recylcling in the many outbuildings of the Homestead. The renovation attempted to use as many of these materials as possible to retain the character of the structure and continue to reflect the spirit of the original builder. You will love our country Kitchen! Modern amenities have been added to the house to provide guests with a comfortable stay, including a full kitchen, modern bathroom and central heat and air, but the house retains its early agricultural and naturalist roots.
The old feed barn has been transformed into an event space where many concerts and rustic weddings have taken place. While the barn facility is not included in your rental, please inquire about reserving it for your event!

Great place welcoming and friendly host. Perfect if you are fishing Lake Fork. Plenty of room for your truck and boat. Most important it’s Safe for your boat and gear
Our stay at this beautiful, well decorated and tranquil cottage was perfect. Check in was easy and effortless. The property owner was readily available and very friendly. Being Easter weekend, the owners left chocolate bunnies and hyacinth plants as a welcoming gift. The grounds are very clean with beautiful rustic barns set up for picnics or weddings. There is a fishing pond on the property that seems to have some great fishing. Unfortunately we didnt get to try our luck. We would absolutely recommend this place for a quaint stay.
Property very clean and was as described in the listing. Quite and peaceful. Would stay here again Pond was beautiful. Perfect place to stay for Canton TX weekend.
It was a peaceful unplugged weekend with everyone fishing and relaxing. We had lunch in town (East Texas Burger and Cafe U) and grilled at the cottage each evening.
Property was as listed and was peaceful and quiet and the scenery was rustic and beautiful. The decor in the house was super cool. It had all the amenities needed for a wonderful stay! We loved it and will recommend or stay again!

Not quite what we expected
The hosts clearly communicated with us throughout our stay. It isn't quite suited for ladies on a weekend getaway trip but guys would definitely be fine here. Doesn't feel safe or cozy and the surrounding property needs better lighting for late arrivals. The local town and its people were wonderful All in all, it was a very memorable experience. Best wishes to the hosts
Had a wonderful time staying at the cottage. The house is located very close to the main roads, but is tucked just far enough back to have total peace, quiet and privacy. The land itself is beautiful and very fun to explore if you're looking to clear your head (Texas Yellowstars were in bloom this March, so we got lucky). There is also some good fishing on the property and I was able to catch a few blue gill and crappie. The host (Vic) couldn't be nicer; super accommodating and gave us good recommendations for things to do on and off the land. You can tell he has a real appreciation for the land as well as for the historical value of the property, 5/5 stars.
The place was amazing, fantastic. clean little antique cottage tucked back in the woods but not far from town. Easy to find and so quiet. the property was amazing. the back porch was the gem to me cold beer and deer walking by. So quiet my family loved it even though my 3yr old had to touch everything.
This was what we were looking for - a secluded outdoor environment in the woods to chill and get away from the concrete. We brought our own supplies just as we would if we were camping and everything worked out fine.
Love this place, we've visited twice so far! Great place to getaway from the day to day life and just relax. Also downtown Mineola is close by as well.
Perfect little spot for myself and three of my girlfriends to stay while visiting Canton! Such a charming little house and a really pretty property! Very clean and cozy! Will stay again for sure! Thank you!
We enjoyed the feeling of going back in time to the quaintness and simplicity of bygone days! Victor was a great host!
Thank you, Marsha & Dave Carthey
We absolutely loved staying here. The house was charming and just what we were looking for, although we spent very little time in the house due to the property being so beautiful! Our 3 year old loved walking the trails through the trees looking for deer, horses, and cows. We would definitely come back again!
Our family of 4 had a great trip to the cottage. The house was just the right size for all 4 of us. It was nice and quiet with plenty of room to roam around. We enjoyed fishing, walking around the property, watching movies and eating/shopping in mineola. We will definitely be back.
Our family absolutely loved staying at the cottage. It's a good place to unwind. Property is located in great and quiet area. Perfect for kids to burn all that energy. Good place to stargaze. Short drive from Dallas area and close to Mineola Nature Preserve. Downtown is nice for antiquing. It'll definitely stay on our list of favorites. Will probably be back in summertime.
We loved this quirky little house and peaceful property. The cottage is full of antiques, so we spent the first hour checking everything out. The living room is bigger than we expected, so we could spread out. The loft was perfect for the teens. The screened in porch was my personal favorite, though the teens enjoyed the chairs in front under the trees. We took lots of walks in the beautiful property. Owners were very helpful. Thank you for a lovely stay.
Took a group to canton and wanted to stay close but not too close. The house was nice. It’s small and older with creaky floors. But very clean and beautiful woods surrounding. A little difficult to locate in the dark. But a great place to rest our heads!
