Filey has a wide sandy beach which shelves gently into the sea, whilst the resort of Scarborough, popular with families, offers an excellent choice of restaurants and a theatre. Scarborough is also home to the biggest, fastest and funniest waterpark in the UK, Alpamare Waterpark, ideal for serious adrenaline junkies and is fun for all the family with space to relax and unwind. Magnificent Flamborough Head with its bird sanctuary is 18 miles. The historic sea port of Whitby (25 miles), where the legendary Captain Cook learned his trade, has a beautiful marina. The old town is a jumble of narrow streets, with ancient houses and little craft shops, and above the town, high on a headland, are the jagged ruins of Whitby Abbey, still an impressive sight. The Spital Craft Centre in Staxton, 2 miles, serves up a lovely Sunday carvery, and features Victorian streets with hairdressers, a beauty shop, village store, deli bakery and a tearoom. It’s open everyday and there is free parking. Almost opposite the craft centre is an award-winning fish restaurant which also provides takeaways.
Inland is the market town of Malton, where a museum houses finds from the Roman camp which once stood here. Five miles to the west, Castle Howard, one of England’s grandest houses, is well worth a visit. Surrounded by magnificent parkland, it contains fine furniture and paintings, as well as Britain’s largest private collection of dress from the 17th-century to the present day. The attractive town of Pickering at the southern foot of the moors, is home to the North Yorkshire Moors Steam Railway, which travels across Heartbeat country. The city of York can be reached in an hour or so, with its superb museums, excellent shops and splendid minster. Flamingo Land and Ayton Castle are also nearby. There is an excellent golf course at Ganton (2 miles) and first-class riding stables at Snainton (7 miles). Good pubs and restaurants can be found in the surrounding villages and there is a farm shop in Potter Brompton and another one just 1 mile away. Village shop 1 mile, supermarket 3 miles.

A great house for a family holiday.
A great house for a family holiday. Great location, provided you have a car, for visiting Scarborough, Whitby and York to name but a few.
The pool is a great extra and we definitely made use of it.
Large and spacious house and garden with plenty of room for everyone.
Would highly recommend and visit again.

Lovely house very spacious for our party of 8.
Lovely house very spacious for our party of 8. We went with our 5 youngest children age 7-22 years and our 5 month old Grandson. The cake and biscuits left as a welcome package were enjoyed by all. We all had lots of fun in the pool which was the main reason we booked Brompton Lodge as our youngest 3 were missing their swimming lessons and the baby had never been in a pool being born just before lockdown. We took our portable barbecue and enjoyed sitting out on the patio furniture and the kitchen was fully equipped for our needs. The back garden was spacious and safe for the younger children to run around and play ball games in.. I recommend a walk down the road to Sally's bakery and tea room.We would definitely stay here again in the future if another large family holiday is planned.

Wonderful home from top to bottom.
Wonderful home from top to bottom. Decor is really nice. Pool is outstanding and garden area is lovely.
Nice quiet area with bonus of being close enough to visitor attractions and the coast.
Try out the bakery/farm shop at end of the lane...well worth a visit!
Water pressure in showers could be better but did not spoil our visit. Would have stayed 2 weeks if it had been free. Looking to revisit in the future.
Aired or clothes line would be great addition...there is a dryer but weather was lovely so could have put stuff outside.
Overall a lovely place.

We were glad to find new lounge seating as the old one was uncomfortable, the new one was much better.
I think the whole house needs modernising though and new beds or at least mattresses as we all had bad backs by the second or third night. No cloths for cleaning, or washing up liquid or brush. We were inundated by hundreds of flies and couldn’t hoover the dead ones up quick enough (we had to buy fly spray). There was only one towel each, so if you had a shower you had to wait for your towel to dry before using the pool. We weren’t allowed to get into the lodge until 5pm by which time we were all starving after a four hour drive. We had to go shopping as soon as we had unloaded the car as we needed to buy the basics plus fly spray, cloths, washing up liquid and brush and dish washer tablets as there were only 4 left for us for the week . We think the flies were probably coming in through a patio door which had a seal missing. Not very hygienic as we had our 2 year old disabled Granddaughter with us who is at very high risk to infection etc. The house itself is in a nice location and the pool is nice to have although in need of a little TLC, especially to the latch on the changing cubicle ( I nearly lost my modesty on several occasions). We were also expected to take our own rubbish to the local tip which we couldn’t do as we didn’t have a local permit so we had to bring some of it home with us. We had to be out of the house by 9am so after loading cars etc no time to eat before our 4 hour journey home and we left a load of full bottles of spirits in the kitchen cupboard due to rushing. ( merry Christmas to the cleaners lol !).
Overall the lodge is nice but expensive.week as it needs updating. I’m sure it will continue to provide happy holidays for many years to come if it does get updated.
Oh! And a barbecue would have been nice , and some sun loungers and parasol. If these recommended changes are made I would love to go back there for further holidays.

This is a fantastic property with swimming pool BUT it needs quite a bit of updating and TLC. We took our family pet with us but the garden is not secure. The interior is very dark and needs refurbishment. We visited 7 years ago and this was the case then and not a lot has changed since our last visit apart from new fridge/freezer, dishwasher, living room seating, new carpet in one of the bedrooms and some new bedlinen. The matresses on at least 2 of the beds need changing, the lighting is very poor in the bedrooms and shower rooms and both showers need an overhaul. The kitchen cupboard doors are greasy and either need a good clean or replacing. The pool was well used but showing signs of the tiles needing cleaning. We love this part of England and would come again but not to this property unless it was greatly improved. Having said that we enjoyed our stay and found the size of the house and pool was really good for a party of 9 and a dog.

Wonderful time and would book again as the location 15 mins from Scarborough beach is great and the property is in a very quiet location but just off the main A64, very handy for York. Also plenty to see around the local area such as Bridlington, Filey and much, much more.

Very well equipped cosy home from home, more room than enough, excellent dining with amazing table and great to have sky tv package. Welcome package greatly appreciated to. Loved having a swimming pool to end the day. Short drives to Whitby, Scarborough, Filey and Bridlington but no local amenities, on the plus side everything you need is a short drive away including a great Fish and Chip shop in Seamer called Papa’s (tried a couple but this was by far the best). Only down side was the noise and smell from the locked room in the utility.
Highly recommend and would love to return.

This was our second visit to Brompton Lodge so we knew what to expect but it was nice to see that some of our comments from our first visit had been taken on board and that there is now patio furniture for sitting out in warm weather available and there was a variety of leaflets on local attractions and amenities displayed.
It would have been nice to have some basic cleaning solutions available (e.g. cooker hob cleaner, kitchen surface cleaner, bleach etc.) but as the notice advised that the property had a septic tank we were unsure of what products to buy which would have been suitable so didn't feel that we left the accommodation in the manner we would have liked, although there was a mop and vacuum available (as was an iron and ironing board).
We all enjoyed our stay and look forward to returning.

Spent a long weekend here with my sister and our girl cousins, having a catch up.
Brompton Lodge was a fantastic venue and the indoor pool was the icing on the cake.
Spacious, comfortable and with everything you will need for an unforgettable stay.
We could even take my sister's very well behaved cockapoo.
We were delighted with the welcome pack too. Such a lovely touch.
With the farm cafe / shop on the corner and the coast just up the road, it's ideally located too.
Hopefully we'll get to stay again sometime.
