The Roost is a 4 bedroom, 4 bathroom detached property with an enclosed garden in the grounds of Manor Farm Cottages in the village of Buckton. Close to the RSPB Bempton Cliffs Nature Reserve where you can see puffins, gannets and guillemots in their natural habitat, the area is a bird watcher’s haven, home to more than 250,000 sea birds. You can walk to Bempton Cliffs from the cottages, or it is a 5-minute drive.
Enjoying delightful countryside and a peaceful village setting close to the east coast, this charming cottage has been converted, along with two other holiday homes, from former stables and a hayloft.
A warm welcome awaits as you drive into what was the old farmyard. The cottage, along with Puffin Cottage and Guillemot Cottage, encompass the square, each with its own patio; a real sun trap and sheltered from the weather. The freedom to wander up into the shared childrens play area with access to a football playing field, meadow walk and outside willow dome seating area.
The cottage is a great base to visit the east coast, Dalby Forest, the North York Moors National Park, the beautiful Yorkshire Wolds made famous by the David Hockney paintings, and the Howardian Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. There is some excellent cycling in the area with the Yorkshire Wolds Cycle Route on your doorstep, with its scenic 146-mile tour of the East Riding and North Yorkshire. With breathtaking views along the coast. The owner is a keen cyclist himself and knows exactly what you need by providing an excellent bike store, along with a repair and wash area and tools and sprays required for servicing the bikes.
The seaside resorts of Scarborough, Bridlington and Filey are just a short drive away with large, open sandy beaches, caves and coves, or for those of you who prefer a quieter resort, Flamborough Head is close by with stunning walks along the clifftops from North to South Landing.
Visit the stately homes and beautiful gardens of Burton Agnes, Castle Howard and Sledmere House, and a children’s zoo and land train at Sewerby Hall. The bustling market towns of Malton, Pickering and Beverley, renowned for its minster and racecourse, are all worth a visit.
The historic city of York is just an hour away with its wide variety of museums including the Railway Museum, Castle Museum and the Jorvik Viking centre. York is very picturesque with cobbled streets surrounding the magnificent minster, along with river boat trips, street entertainers and an abundance of restaurants and real ale inns.
In Buckton and Bempton villages, you are just ½ mile from a cafe and art gallery, the village post office and corner shop, as well as the local pub, The White Horse.
