This attractive, detached 19th-century cottage has been restored by the current owners of the country estate. The property is accessed via a useful boot room, however due to the age of the property the entrance doors have low head height. The main living accommodation is on the ground floor, with high ceilings, deep-silled windows and views towards the sea, all the rooms are welcoming and decorated in a traditional style. The fully fitted kitchen leads through to the pretty living room. There is an attractively presented dining room adjoining, and a small utility room off the main hall. An original staircase leads up to three generously proportioned bedrooms on the first floor, along with a modern shower room, all enjoying views across to the sea or open countryside.
The Gate Lodge is situated at the start of the ¾ mile private lane that leads up to the main country house. This beautiful tree lined approach lane is bounded by mature trees with a pretty burn and waterfalls meandering alongside. With an abundance of wild flowers, the occasional otter and numerous local deer, it is a lovely walk direct from the cottage. The owners run a small café and local craft business from the main house and visitors are welcome to wander in the 24 acres of grounds and enjoy the surrounding countryside. The immediate area is noted as an area of outstanding archaeological interest. Brochs, cairns and standing stones are all found in the locality.
There are numerous places of interest and sporting activities in the area. The nearby village of Lybster has an interesting past, built at the height of the 19th-century herring boom. With its pretty harbour and beach it is well worth a visit. This coast has some of the most outstanding beaches to be found anywhere. Fishing, golf, horse riding, kayaking, sailing, mountain biking and wildlife watching are all enjoyed locally, and puffins, seals, dolphins and whales are seen around these coastal waters. Beach 2 miles. Shop, pub and restaurant 3 miles.

We could not recommend this property and location enough.
We could not recommend this property and location enough. The warm friendly welcome from the owners was wonderful. The wrap around garden garden and surrounding estate was great for our two dogs to walk and play in safely. The lodge itself offered us everything we required and more, comfy beds, super shower, a bonus air fryer ( not expected) great washer and dishwasher and the lodge is large enough to give everyone space. It was a peaceful, restful holiday. At this time of year almost all local attractions are closed but we knew this in advance, however the area has enough free historic sites to visit with plenty of covering leaflets, importantly all complemented by knowledge from the owners at Force of Nature. (Lynn and Jason). We enjoyed ourselves so much we have booked for two weeks later in the year. On the estate at Force of Nature there is is a gem of a cafe offering a superb selection of light bites and cakes that are excellent (all made by Ellie with Love). If you are looking for a good break surrounded by lots of nature then this is it.

Lovely house, lovely location, lovely owners!
Really nice house. Really clean and everything we needed provided. Short walk (less than a mile) walk to the main house which had a beautiful craft shop and cafe serving delicious food. Great house to use as a base for walking and sightseeing in the area! Also the dog loved it! Owners very welcoming and nearby if you ever need anything! Can’t fault it - great stay! Hopefully we’ll be back!
