This Grade II Listed one-bedroom holiday cottage is set in a private walled garden measuring around a third of an acre, and is conveniently all on one level. . All on the Ground Floor:

All properties: Gas central heating, electricity, bed linen, towels and Wi-Fi included. Welcome pack. Barbecue. Grounds (shared with other holiday cottages). No smoking. . Set in its own walled garden which is completely private, Gamekeeper’s Cottage is ideal for those seeking a romantic getaway. Part of the Groves Estate built for Sir William Lynch in around 1750, Gamekeeper’s Cottage is surrounded by high Grade II listed walls which shelter a gloriously sunny garden, spanning around a third of an acre, which is bursting with unusual plants and flowers including a fig tree. Here you will find your very own secret garden, a perfect retreat into countryside tranquillity – well away from the hustle and bustle of city life.

Inside, the detached cottage has been renovated with a new bathroom in 2018 and a new kitchen in 2021 and also offers luxury bed linen, toiletries and fittings. This cottage is small it might not be appropriate for guests with limited mobility. The medieval local village of Staple has a friendly pub/restaurant and Wingham and Sandwich are a short drive away. Canterbury is less than 10 miles away and is bursting with shops and restaurants. There is a great choice of beaches nearby including Broadstairs, Sandwich Bay and Ramsgate.
Please note this is a rural location and the WiFi can be intermittent or slow at times.

Gamekeeper’s Cottage is perfect for couples who want to spend some quality time together; those in need of peace and escape can wander around their own ’Garden of Eden’, before exploring the beautiful countryside and nearby coast – the best Kent has to offer. Even France is accessible with the Eurotunnel, and the ports at Dover and Folkestone close by. There is a bus stop within walking distance with hourly buses running to Sandwich and Canterbury. Please note the cottage is very rural and the Wi-Fi can sometimes be a little inconsistent. Gamekeeper’s Cottage can be booked together with The Bothy (UKC1061) to accommodate up to 6 guests.

First impression was a bit disappointing due to its very compact size and lack of cooking facilities

First impression was a bit disappointing due to its very compact size and lack of cooking facilities especially when eating out is a bit complex at this challenging time. A more modern hob and oven would have been preferable but the cottage grew on me. It's cosy especially with the log burner going on a wet evening. It was clean and bed was comfy. Shame about the sofa bring a touch uncomfortable for relaxing on. A nice getaway for a few nights in the quiet of the countryside and a lovely secluded garden with the right weather. We loved location and garden, the cottage is small and storage is limited but we were aware of that.

We loved location and garden, the cottage is small and storage is limited but we were aware of that. My partner works for NHS and is in the thick of covid and TBF she said cleanliness could have been better there were spiders webs on the dishes rack above sink and in the cupboard above, there is also a potential problem with the main light shades they are a feather type thing and very dirty probably not ideal at the min. The main seat in lounge is probably one of the most uncomfortable seats I have ever sat on, and really needs replacing, which I think other people have said also. We did have a infestation of frogs on two nights which was funny the 1st time, the front stable door is bent away from frame which is were the frogs were getting in...I covered with news paper after 2nd fog invasion. I hope this is not too negative it is not meant to be, like I say we had good holiday sitting in garden at night was great, and over all the cottage is lovely great for a couple on romantic break just a few little issues which I think are easily addressed. hope this ok Regards Mike. Gemütliches Cottage, umgeben von einem fantastischen Garten und viel Ruhe

Wir haben unseren Urlaub in diesem kleinen Cottage sehr genossen! Die Ruhe ist grandios, perfekt um dem Alltagsstress zu entfliehen! Die Unterkunft bietet alles was man alltäglich benötigt, die Küche ist zweckmäßig eingerichtet! Die Heizung funktioniert sehr gut, also kein Frieren im Winterurlaub! Von der Unterkunft aus ist man innerhalb von 15 Minuten in Canterbury oder Sandwich, ca. 35 Minuten in Whitstable oder Margate. Wir kommen gerne wieder!
