Okay apartment. Nice location. If you want to experience the pinnacle of terrible communication and shady business practice by a host, I encourage you to book this place.
All checkin info is withheld until you pay 3rd party Venice tourist tax. This is not stated anywhere in the rental listing on VRBO. This extra payment comes from a shady looking email (not related to VRBO) so it was filtered to spam. I messaged this host the day I booked this stay to enquire about the checkin process as there is no info about it, he never responded… for 3 months. He also didn’t respond via VRBO chat until after I contacted VRBO help line who gave me this host’s ‘contact numbers’… which are blank lines with voicemails to text him on WhatsApp. I had to book other accommodations last minute because I couldn’t obtain the withheld checkin details and host not responding. VRBO with no protections against terrible hosts and sketchy listings. Book elsewhere with a different host!
Summary if you do book this apartment:
- Know this host does not respond through the VRBO app unless it’s after your checkin time and it will be frustrating.
- This host is terrible and will be quick to tell you he manages 300 properties and doesn’t have time to respond to every message, yours included.
- There was a burn on the bed cover, hair in the bathroom and someone else’s used hair ties and shampoo left behind upon checkin but I’m overlooking those because my main issue with this rental is the management
