Vale Cottage is a breath of fresh air, literally. This 2 bedroom, 1.5 bath rental is at one with all the beautiful foliage that Highlands has to offer. With vaulted ceilings, airy décor, and a big, beautiful bank of windows, its common areas are flooded with morning light and a stunning view of mother nature. Also, enjoy our canoe on Mirror Lake.

The Location: Vale Cottage is located within the Highlands, NC town limits on Dog Mountain. It's just far enough from the beaten path that guests are one with nature but only 2 miles to Main Street and the center of Highlands shopping, dining, and nightlife.

The Property: Vale Cottage is a carriage house that is located on a 2+ acre wooded property. Sitting at roughly 50 feet from the main house, Vale Cottage has a privacy wall and is elevated so guests can relax in the solitude of their own cozy space.

The Cabin: Vale Cottage is newly renovated in 2017 and has all wood ceilings, rustic wood beams, soaring 15' ceilings, and tons of natural light in the common areas. It has a screened porch that overlooks the beautiful wooded yards. Guests enjoy custom cabinetry in the kitchen, reclaimed vanities in the baths, and a NC slate walk-through shower.

The Layout: Access to Vale Cottage is through the cozy screened porch with rocking chairs for two. Guests enter into the large open common area that houses the kitchen with island seating for two, dining table for 4, and the cozy living room. To the right off the common areas are doors that lead to both queen bedrooms. The bathrooms are accessible from both bedrooms and share a shower, while each having their own vanity and toilet area.

The Area: Highlands, NC is the premier mountain destination in the Southeast. Lined with shopping, dining, museums and galleries, the bustling mountain village centering around Main Street is straight from a Norman Rockwell painting. Previously a summer/fall hotspot, it's quickly becoming a year-round destination. At 4,118 feet, it's one of the few temperate rain forests in North America, bringing botanists and nature lovers from all over the world.

Highlands is also a mecca for outdoor enthusiasts. With an abundance of opportunities for biking, hiking, horseback riding, tubing, canoeing, fly fishing, and whitewater rafting, adventure-seekers will not find a more beautiful backdrop.

The Details: The living room and both bedrooms have flat screen TV's with cable and wifi. The kitchen is stocked with general kitchen essentials. All of our cabins are pet friendly with prior approval and a nominal pet fee. Vale Cottage is a carriage house, meaning it is over a garage for the main house. Renters have full privacy.

Perfect mountain retreat close to town

We had a wonderful stay here! The cabin is close to town yet far enough up the road to feel secluded and relaxed. The cabin was very well stocked with everything we could need. I had to work a couple of days and the wi-fi worked brilliantly. Will definitely return to this cabin or another Elevate property!

Amazing Cottage in the Woods

We loved our stay at Vale Cottage. It’s just a few miles from town and close to great hiking trails, yet still feels incredibly private and peaceful. It was the perfect place for us to relax and spend quality time together before the holiday rush. The cottage is beautifully appointed, the beds and linens are wonderfully comfortable, and the views—especially the November sunrise filtering through the trees—were unforgettable.

Quick retreat from the heat

We had a great time as always at Vale Cottage this week. We left mid 90 temps for the high country. You guys are great host and we always enjoy seeing you. The cottage is everything you need for the stay in Highlands. It’s very close to town yet provides a mountain neighborhood environment for walking the dog or just good exercise.

Sooooo Relaxing!

This property is exactly as described: a beautiful cottage surrounded by woods. You are close to town but far enough away to experience the peace. If you haven't stayed in one of the Elevate properties, it's a must. We have never stayed in a place where the owners are so accommodating.

Perfect home away from home.

We rented the Vale Cottage for a week in August with our two doodles. We felt at home the moment we walked in. The high ceilings and abundance of natural light were very appealing. Vail Cottage escape

Vail Cottage is a great place for the active family. We have stayed here multiple times now. It is close to down town shopping, great food and ice cream. There are many hiking trails and water falls in the area. The cottage is a great place to come back to after an outing and relax on the screen porch. If you want to cook in, it is equipped with everything you need. The owners are great folks and they truly want their guest to have a great time.

Absolutely stunning retreat location

Faye and Bill have a beautiful home . It is new, clean and they go the extra mile. The sheets are soft, towels are plush and decor very peaceful and tasteful. The screen porch with rockets is private and perfect place to enjoy nature. We will be back for sure! It is less than 2 miles from town.

Wonderful Location - Wonderful Property

Just what we were looking for during out last minute trip to Highlands. It feels like you are in the mountains but you are only 2 miles from downtown. The living space is perfect. It's a 2 bedroom (beds are very comfortable) there are 2 half baths and one very cool shower (tile floor to ceiling and it's really a shower room). Decorations are perfect, couch very comfortable, kitchen with more than we needed but could host a dinner (we did cook in 3 times and needed nothing that wasn't already there for our use). Bill and Faye were wonderful. Our dog had plenty of walking places, she loved her time maybe more than we did, and Bill and Faye were very nice to her. This is a place that we will return to actually as soon as we can get away. Highly recommend for anyone that wants the best of both worlds at a reasonable price.

Great Getaway for Friends and Family

My mom and I stayed three nights in Vale Cottage. The property is beautiful and very comfortable. The mountain top location has great views. We even saw wild turkeys while we were there. The location is minutes from everything in Highlands, but in a calm and quiet spot. The dual bathroom with a Jack and Jill shower was perfect for anybody who wants to share a cabin, because each room has its own toilet and shower access. Would definitely stay again!
