The toponym Kamares derives from the numerous caves that exist on the rocky south coast of the bay. Kamares is the largest coastal village and the port of Sifnos.
Here you shall find the port’s dock, ATM, travel agencies, stores, groceries, traditional taverns, restaurants, cafeterias, beach bars, patisserie workshops, potter’s workshops with genuine ceramics of Sifnos, car and motorcycle renting offices, greek press agency, a kiosk, a diving center, and a cruise boat that organizes tours around Sifnos.
At the other end of the bay, just a 10 minute walk from the house, below the mountain of Agios Simeon, where the homonymous monastery is situated you will also find a traditional taverna and a couple of beach bars for amazing cocktails, all day food and a majestic sunset.
The golden large sandy beach of Kamares, one of the biggest on the island, and the best beach for kids, with shallow and safe waters, was awarded the blue flag of the European Union, because it meets the criteria of the project: (Coast Organization, Cleanness, Bathers’ safety).
Some of the oldest buildings of Kamares at the central settlement are the temples of Agios Georgios and of Agia Varvara (erection: 1785, renovation 1906), the Fanari (1896), ruins from the furnaces, the shipping scale for the ore (1883) and the old pier (1909).
It is worth visiting the Church of Agia Marina in Pera Panda, from where one can enjoy a magic sunset in Sifnos.
Kamares port has a taxi rank and bus station, as well as various car and scooter rental agencies. The house has private garage for two cars plus a free space for a third car on the road just outside.

Beautiful, modern, spacious, well-equipped home with exceptional views. Exceptional in all respects.
We rented this home for two weeks in September to be home base for our family during our stay on Sifnos. The home boasts spacious living areas; four large bedrooms; four full bathrooms; large full kitchen with reasonable sized dining table; A/C; and numerous outdoor patios with exceptional views of the bay, mountains and town of Kamares. Overall, it is even better in person than it appears in the photos. Upstairs are two large bedrooms, two full bathrooms, kitchen and large living area. The two downstairs bedrooms are actually separate apartments, accessed by the front stairway located off the main patio at the front of the house, so it was ideal for us because we were a party of adult couples. The home is ideally located only about a hundred yards uphill from the main part of Kamares, so shopping, restaurants and the ferry are all a short walk. The only word of caution I would give is that the hundred yards is virtually all uphill, so you need to be capable of climbing steps and/or walking up fairly steep roads several times a day, unless you plan to rent a car or scooter. That said, believe me - we hardly gave a thought to our daily climbs back up to the house, as the home was so wonderful. Lastly, the host, Xenia, and her husband were terrific. They were very responsive throughout the booking process, provided transportation for us upon our arrival and departure, walked us through the house upon arrival and went way above and beyond by leaving us with a basket of fruit, crackers, jams and cookies, as well as several bottles of wine, water, beer and soft drinks in the fridge. Overall, this was probably the best experience we have ever had with a vacation rental property, hands down...and we've rented a LOT of properties! If you're coming to Sifnos, rent this property! You won't regret it...
Mommy, wife and lover of animals, traveling, yoga, nature and Sifnos. Xenia means hospitality in Greek so hosting is my.. first name. :) Can't wait to meet you.
