About this property
Luxury 3 Bedroom Cottage with Private Pool
Perched on a hilltop and offering a wonderful view of the Black Mountains to the east and a fantastic panoramic view of the Pyrenees to the south, this sympathetically restored and well appointed stone farm cottage is the perfect destination for those looking to get away from it all, and the ideal spot to explore the South West region with its excellent tourist and sporting attractions. This old stone farm building has been sympathetically restored to an exceptionally high standard, maintaining many traditional features including exposed beams and stone walls, but with the modern comforts of air-conditioning and heating throughout. A large stone fireplace and wood-burning stove are the focal points of the lower living accommodation.
Leisure at the cottage: If your idea of a perfect holiday doesn't involve going very far then the cottage is just right for you. The fully alarmed 8 x 4 mtr swimming pool is next to a large sun terrace fully equipped with dining table, chairs, parasols and sun beds. The large garden area is big enough for kids to runaround in but close enough for you to keep and eye on them. Inside the cottage there is a TV with UK free-view channels, a DVD player with a large selection of movies, a bluetooth speaker and a large selection of books and games to help while away the long lazy days.
Leisure away from the cottage: Locally there are tennis courts, riding schools, golf courses, windsurfing, quad biking, canoeing, jet skiing, cross country running and fishing. We are happy to arrange lessons or day trips for any of these activities during your stay.
The many vineyards of the Gaillac region are only 30 minutes away and slightly further afield, but well worth the extra effort, are the Minervois, Cahor, Madiran and Corbière regions. We can recommend vineyards to visit and wine to buy during your stay.
Forty minutes away is the city of Toulouse, known as the ‘Pink City’ because of the colour of brick from which it is built, with its many historical attractions; The Capitole Square, St. Sernin Basilica, St. Etienne Cathedral and many museums. For the kids, a trip to the Citi d’Espace, the European Space Park shouldn’t be missed.
Just under an hour away you have the historical site of Carcassonne - a must for anyone travelling to the area.
Where to eat: There are plenty of good restaurants to help you discover the many culinary delights of the region, and our fully comprehensive welcome book gives details of all of them.
If you enjoy cooking while you have the time away, we grow our own fruit and veg in the garden which is available for guests to enjoy. Nearby farms sell their own produce including chicken, duck, fowl, lamb and cheese, and the Saturday Lavaur market is a treat for all the senses.

Thank you for your generous review - Ian and I are so glad that you enjoyed your stay and we look forward to welcoming you back in the future.
A wonderful cottage in a fabulous location. We couldn’t have asked for anything more, from the warm and friendly welcome to the much needed swimming pool. We loved our stay so much, thank you
We experienced several holiday cottages in France, but En Bretus met all the expectations. The combination of the comfortable and clean house, the super hosts Karen and Ian (!!) and the beautiful surroundings made our holiday break fantastic.

Thank you for your lovely comments Irene. We hope to see you all back at En Bretus in the future.
Beautifully furnished and appointed house and grounds. From the thoughtful welcome packet to the fully equipped kitchen, the hosts take special care of their guests. Responsive to every need and helpful in information and suggestions about the area.
If you want a quiet place away from it all, this is a wonderful option. Day trips to Albi and Carcassone are around an hour away. Afternoons by the pool after a day of sightseeing. Karen and Ian were the perfect hosts.

Thank you Diane. It was a pleasure to meet you both and we're so happy you enjoyed your stay.
We had a superb week in the house. The house itself was fantastic. It was comfortably the most well equipped place we have stayed in - everything has been thought of (including some pool toys that the boys enjoyed). Karen and Ian were perfect hosts, they left us to our own devices, but were always happy to share ideas on places to visit, goodies from their garden, and thoughts on the coming rugby season. The pool (completely private, secluded and sole use) was beautiful, with an impressive view as a backdrop. Thanks for a lovely week - we hope to return one day.
The cottage is a beautiful place to relax, unwind & an ideal place to get away from it all. It is immaculate throughout & the lovely hosts karen & Ian have thought of everything you could possibly need.
The pool was wonderful and the views from the terrace were stunning. We will definitely be returning. Thank you Karen & Ian for a memorable holiday.

Thank you Ali. We really look forward to seeing you both again next year.
My wife and I had a very relaxing and peaceful stay which is just what we were looking for. Karen and Ian are both lovely people and we’re extremely helpful when giving advice on the local area. We would definitely recommend if you’re looking for a quiet get away. Easy access to the local town which is a 10 minute drive and has everything you need. Also great for a day trip into Toulouse.

Thank you Josh. We are so glad that you and Rosie enjoyed your honeymoon at En Brétus. Hopefully we'll see you again at some point in the future. It was lovely to meet you both.
Thanks to Karen and Ian for such a warm welcome to their fabulous gite. We had a relaxing week.. and could easily have stayed longer on the terrace and by the pool.
Everything you would expect from the listing and more.. this is a top end holiday home curating with genuine care and passion by our genial Scottish hosts.
Thanks again.
Cottage at En Bretus has been beautifully renovated to a very high standard. It offers flexible accommodation, has everything needed for a relaxing stay including a beautiful terrace and pool. There are fabulous restaurants, historic towns and cities within a short drive, great cycling and super lakes all nearby. Karen and Ian are fabulous hosts and have amazing knowledge of the local area. We spent a fair amount of time in Toulouse, metro is about 35 mins away very easy. Atmosphere at the rugby was incredible, very inclusive, plenty of interactivity.
I cannot recommend this property enough.
Remote, but just 15 mins from a beautiful little town for shops and restaurants.
Beautifully restored farmhouse cottage with all amenities, great wifi, washing machine, air-con in all bedrooms and living room.
Big private pool, set in picture postcard rolling fields, dining/sun terrace....I could go on and on about how impressed we all were.
Karen and Ian were on hand with advice and help whenever needed.
If youre looking for the perfect get away, somewhere to relax and recharge, THIS is what you're looking for.
We will definitely be returning next year.xx
This property was superbly equipped as it had all that we required for our trip - on the rare occasion we needed something, that wasn't in the property, we were able to loan it from the owners.
We, a family of four (44m, 42f, 14f &13f), had a fabulous time and all agreed that this was right up there as one of our favorite holiday home stays of all time. Having stayed all across France in various homes this one ticked our boxes for a relaxing sun-filled break.
The owners, and of course their dogs, were very friendly and ensured that our stay was as comfortable as possible - thank you for all of the information shared on beekeeping and allowing us to sample some of the harvest.
A small recommendation for improving further (if we were to be overly picky); would be for some way of providing fixed outside shade, as there were occasions where the wind was too high to have the parasols up which meant it was too hot to enjoy the outside space.
Overall this is a property not to be missed and certainly deserves 5* across the board.
Thank you Karen and Ian.
We recently spent a wonderful week at this delightful gîte between Toulouse and Castres and couldn't have been happier with our stay. From the moment we arrived, Karen and Ian welcomed us warmly, treating us like family with their genuine hospitality. The gîte's setting is peaceful and calming, providing an ideal escape from daily life. The stunning hilltop surroundings in natural beauty are perfect for relaxation, with plenty of opportunities for scenic walks including a nearby lake. The pool was a definite highlight, offering a refreshing dip or ideal setting to unwind and soak up the tranquil environment while watching the swallows dipping and diving. The accommodation itself is beautifully finished and fully equipped with everything we needed, creating a comfortable and homely atmosphere. The thoughtful touches such from the hosts, such as honey from own bee hives and wild garlic from the veggie patch, to going the extra mile on restaurant recommendations, truly added to our overall enjoyment.Centrally located, the gîte allowed us to explore both Toulouse and Castres easily making it the ideal base camp (especially for rugby fans if you want to catch a Top14 or European game!)Thanks to Karen and Ian's considerate hosting, our stay has left a wonderful impression and great memories. We’re already looking forward to returning!Laura, Roger, Jane & Stew x
