About this property

Cosy mountain lake ski retreat, relaxation Scandinavian style

Our guests return each year to enjoy this clean and cozy home in the mountains.

The light filled house boasts tall timber lined ceilings, a beautiful log fire, internal traditional wood oven (perfect for your favourite pizza) and a Finnish sauna to revive you at the end of the day.

With 2 bedrooms the house comfortably sleeps 6.
The main bedroom has a queen bed with ensuite and walk in robe.
The second bedroom has a double bed and bunks.
All beds are clean, warm and comfortable - bedding and linen is provided.

Walk over the road and fish Lake Eucumbene from the bank or bring your boat and use the boat ramp at the end of the street. Or explore the numerous trout filled streams nearby for that elusive Rainbow or Brown.

Pets are welcome over the warmer months - between October and May. Unfortunately we have had problems in the past with pets being left alone in the house in the winter while people go skiing, and it is too cold for them to be left outside. Please note the garden is not fenced.

Mt Selwyn ski resort is a 40min drive away and offers family friendly facilities. If you have hit the slopes and caught a fish you might like to take a drive to the amazing Yarrangabilly Caves. Picnic in this stunning hidden valley, soak up the history of this 100 year old mountain resort and take a dip in the thermal pool.

There are several horse riding operators in the area if you feel like the Man from Snowy River experience. Or just relax. The comforts of the house can make it hard to leave the fireside. You may just stay put and enjoy the quality selection of DVDs, books and games.

Take a wander on the 5km bush fire trail at the back for lovely views of the area. At the end of the day supervise the BBQ from the deck and watch the sun set over the mountains in the company of the friendly local wildlife.

Coffee and the paper can be found just a 15 minute drive away at the Adaminaby bakery where you will find cream buns, curry pies, coffee and lovely fresh bread, there is also an IGA, the pub 'the Snowgoose' and local takeaway for meals and supplies.

Great holiday rental, clean, well stocked. The fireplace was amazing and the flannelette sheets so comfy. Everything was great except the internet which was dismal, we also had 0 phone reception (Vodaphone & Optus) this was a challenge but great option if visiting Mt Selwyn.

I'll be back

Highly recommended lodging. The host, Alex, is an excellent host who communicates very well and is very responsive. I had a very pleasurable stay in the Finnish cottage with 2 fishing buddies (too old for tents now) which we found to be very warm and energy efficient even in a couple of sizable May frosts. It’s very well equipped with lots of crockery, pots and pans and a Weber on the front veranda. It has a great layout with 2 separated bedrooms and bathrooms and a sizable lounge area, great for get aways with friends. It was very clean with good quality linen and had a good supply of firewood. We will absolutely be booking again, thank you Alex.

Peaceful sanctuary

This was our second stay and it was just as good as the first. We loved the sauna and made great use of the pizza oven, which is such fun to use. We've already booked in for next year.

Xmas

Property was great, perhaps some microwave containers needed. Unfortunately we did not have one bite from trout and that was the reason for visit. Quite remote area.

We were impressed

We had a wonderful time here. It's in a great location, clean and with everything we needed. Sauna was great after skiing. The host is lovely and made the whole process very easy for us. The house was surrounded by wildlife and it even snowed one night. We'll definitely be back.

Once again we thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this cabin. We enjoyed fishing in the lake, and it was an easy drive to Perisher to see the snow. This is by far my favourite accommodation in the region and we can’t wait to go back again. Thanks Alex!

Alittle piece of serenity

From the moment we arrived we knew this holiday was going to be another memorable one. The location, the fire, the sauna and the lake were all just fantastic. Out of our 12 nights we had 6 trout feeds . The trout in in pizza oven with blood orange and shallots were definitely the best. Were looking forward to our next stay. memorable one. Th

Hidden Gem

We arrived just after sunset. The last 100 meters to the house we were welcomed by many grey Kangaroos and some wallabies. Every morning and evening they came in our back- and frontyard. We loved this Finnish house and it's sauna. In the evening sitting on the deck gazing at the stars and sipping some wine of playing a game inside the house. Lot to explore in the area. My children, who live in Australia are allredy making plans to come back some day. And maybe I will too. Thank you Alex for letting us stay in your beautiful home. A "Hidden Cottage" no Longer !

Not the first time I had stayed in "Piilo Pirtti", meaning "Hidden Cottage" in the Finnish Language. The cottage makes you feel like being in a warm cozy home where everting is clean and in its place. From the warm fireplace if the evening turns a bit chilly'; to watching kangaroos (yes they are wild) resting, feeding or the younger adult males jousting; to the many different birds which fly in looking for a nut or seed. A place where you can relax after catching your "trout" - fly fishing or trolling (mine was a brown on fly); or a day spent in the nearby ski slopes, and returning to your collective reminiscing on how your day was in the afterglow of the dying embers in the fireplace, and your favorite drink shared with family and friends. My second time will not be the last - the third time is already in the making. My family included my wife (from the Philippines); my sister (from Canberra) and my brother (from Salamander Bay, NSW). These are not just words for ad copy. They started in the mid-1960s my first visit to Anglers Reach when there was nothing more than a dirt track, many rabbits; a few kangaroos where I have stayed in a number of cottages over the years. But, for me there is only one "Piilo Pirtti" that draws me back for the charm, ambience, like my Grandmother's warm hug, the cottage draws me back for more. My wife and I stayed from 24/11 to 3/12/ 2024 and extended that by another 2 days - I was happy to share my birthday with family and the Hidden Cottage.

We have stayed here several times for fishing the lake, not snow skiing. It is well-appointed, has everything we need, and is generally neat, tidy, clean and comfortable. We did note that someone left two pairs of socks in the clothes dryer (I left them on the bench) and a couple of pieces of cutlery needed a fresh clean, but everything else was spick and span, so that's for noting and not a complaint. The rest of the facility is great and a lot of upgrading has been done over the years and is hugely appreciated. We would love to return when time permits. It was probably cold enough for the fire but we decided to just use a heater to save the firewood and cleanup. All up, a big thanks to the owners.

This was the 2nd year in a row now that we have stayed here and we started to plan the third before the 2nd had ended. Great location, place was tidy and welcoming, and check in and check out was a breeze. Wi-Fi was a little hit or miss, but didn’t dampen the holiday at all. Surrounded by kangaroos every morning and night just makes it so much more special. Pizza oven also got a great workout too. Thanks Alex, and look forward to next year mate.
