The BRYSON-CRANE HISTORIC RESIDENCE c. 1925, for the 2024 Sarasota Winter Season
[Go to https://youtu.be/lHyBaNzdT_w for a video tour of the property]
The Bryson-Crane House is located in the quiet cultural center of the Museum District of Sarasota, just 3 blocks from the Asolo Theater, but still only five minutes to the amenities of downtown Sarasota. On the National Register of Historic Places, this 1925 residence has anchored both the Sarasota Historical Home and Garden tours.
This home offers an elegant but eminently comfortable alternative to crowded condominiums. It includes upscale amenities, extensive gardens, and myriad opportunities for entertaining.
This is not a business rental property, but a private home available for limited times when the owners travel. As such, it offers amenities and finishes unique in Sarasota seasonal leases.
While we will consider applications, our preferred tenant is a mature couple, seeking a different experience to sterile vacation rentals and willing to commit to an extended rental term. Pets are acceptable on approval, as are temporary visitors. Thank you for your understanding of the unique requirements of this property.
Amid a full acre of stunning gardens, the property has 3 bedrooms and 3.5 baths between the main house and guest cottage.
The main house has two dining areas for casual and formal dining, music room, formal living room, large media room, a cozy conversation area, and a chef's kitchen, and offers two bedrooms with en-suite baths.
The guest cottage has a full kitchen, en-suite bath, living area, dining nook, & queen 4-poster bed.
The grounds host multiple seating and entertainment areas, private bricked courtyards, and a comfortable copper-screened porch adjoining a grilling area. There is a large exterior pool and a full sized bocce court.
The main house, pool house, garage and gardens comprise a secure walled and gated compound with complete privacy from the street.
There is a two-car free-standing garage (one bay available) and a series of 4 driveways with pavers for convenient off-street parking.
The home is furnished in a mixture of antiques and current furnishings, with original art and custom area rugs. It includes Lenox and Gorham china and crystal, a Reed & Barton luncheon set, as well as everyday dishes. Linens are by Ralph Lauren. The master bedroom has a king size sleigh bed with dual Casper Hybrid memory foam adjustable mattress systems. The media room includes a large screen television, and additional televisions are downstairs and in the guest cottage. High speed wifi is available throughout all areas. The laundry area houses large sized, front loading Whirlpool Duet washer and dryer.
The Bryson-Crane residence is a premier historic property of the Sarasota Museum District. Originally the private home of the business partner of John Ringing, it served as the model home for Ringling's Sapphire Shores development, with its wide boulevards and the signature banyan trees gifted by Thomas Edison. This home was the center of Ringling's close circle of social and business associates, frequently hosting John and Mabel as guests.
Designed by the same architect John Ringling chose for the exquisite Ca d'Zan, Dwight James Baum, the Bryson-Crane House is a centerpiece of the "Little Five Points" area of the Sarasota Museum District, the artistic and architecturally unparalleled 'West of Trail" neighborhood surrounding the Asolo Theater, Ca d'Zan, and the Ringling Museum of Art.
The Indian Beach - Sapphire Shores neighborhood is a mix of historic and modern homes, widely known for its friendly and artistic character. Shaded sidewalks lead to the Museum area and to a pristine, pet-friendly bay front park.
Our ten minute walk through video (photo 3 of 22 when opened) includes all interior and exterior areas.

About the host
Hosted by Paige M.

We are retired attorneys who have enjoyed the renovation of historic properties for over thirty years. The Bryson-Crane House is the culmination of our efforts and has been our primary family home since 2000. Now 'empty-nesters', we are taking advantage of our newly free time to travel, which we do by preference off season (we get plenty of sunshine in Sarasota). Historic houses do better when lived in, so we have decided to make our Sarasota home available for the Sarasota Winter Seasons.
Why they chose this property
We were moving from Longboat Key and hoping to downsize into a residence in a standard mainland subdivision, when we drove by a huge, neglected Ringling era property in the lovely Museum District of Sarasota. Abandoning ideas of an easy subdivision lifestyle, we embarked on the rehabilitation of the residence. The Sarasota Historical Society lauded the result as a "perfect renovation, lovingly done", and it was indeed a labor of love. With our five children and many grandchildren, this historic house has seen years of joy, family and entertaining. The large pool, extensive gardens, and bocce court have been the center of activity and entertainment for our family and guests alike. Now embarking on extensive travel, we want to share our home with others who appreciate the unique qualities of an original Ringling era home.
What makes this property unique
The location of this home is absolutely perfect for part time residents who are value the cultural gem that is the City of Sarasota. Far from the cold and impersonal options of condominium megaliths, the Bryson Crane House offers a warm, inviting, true home. Perfect for everything from quiet relaxation, to pool days with family, to elegant entertaining, the house is beautifully appointed and welcoming. An easy three block stroll brings you to the fifteen annual performances at the famous Asolo Repertory Theater, as well as the Historic Asolo Theater, the Ringling Museum of Art, the Circus Museum, and all of the associated amenities of restaurants and shops.
The Sapphire Shores neighborhood is known for attracting artists and musicians, also offers a wonderful variety of fascinating neighborhood restaurants. It is an easy five minute ride to downtown Sarasota and all it has to offer with nightlife, culture, and dining, and it is equally close to the fabulous shopping and dining district of the University Parkway corridor.
Unlike life in an impersonal condominium, this fully walled property offers space, privacy, and residential quiet. Including over an acre of award winning gardens, a large pool, and bocce court under a spreading banyan tree donated by Thomas Edison, this property is Sarasota as it was in a more gracious era, and as it should be today.
