About this property

Cason’s Cabin-Callaway Gardens Area -Historic Property-Lake-Pool-Trails

Come relax in a roomy and lovely, historical 4 bedroom 4 bath cabin located in the Callaway Gardens Area on private Lake Ida. This cabin was built by the the founder of Callaway Gardens, Cason J. Callaway in 1930 and renovated in the late 90s. It is part of a property which is listed in the National Register of Historic Places, and until now has never been available to the public as a rental.

The cabin is 3200 sq feet- Ample space for 8 guests! It has new master beds, beautiful antique furnishings, wifi, and 60"smart tv. The antique wood furnishings are original to the cabin from 1930, many from Old Hickory Furniture Company- purchased in 1930 when the cabin was built. Two king bedrooms and two twin bedrooms are perfect for two families, or 8 adults. Each bedroom has a private adjoining tub/shower combo bathroom.
The living area of the house features a nice sized living room and kitchen with a pass though dining room between them. There is a wood burning fireplace in the living area, and a 60" smart TV, on which guests can access their own app accounts.
The outdoors offers plenty to enjoy! Take in the beautiful views of the mountain, lake, and the 5 acres of lush forest surrounding the cabin. Fish on the lake where past Presidents have fished, Franklin D Roosevelt, Dwight D. Eisenhower, Lady Bird Johnson and Jimmy Carter. So bring your fishing gear to enjoy some great fishing. Catch and Release only. Large Mouth Bass and Bluegill Brim! Relax on the front porch in the tranquil environment and listen to whistle of the trees while the evening floats slowly away.

Cason's Cabin is situated a short walk down the private drive from the private historical residence also located on the property, The Lodge at Blue Springs Farms. This large log home is where Cason and Virginia Callaway lived and retired for over 40 years. Across from the cabin there is a great field overlooking Lake Ida, perfect for play/sports/kids fun. Enjoy your coffee on the front screen porch watching the sunrise, and in the afternoon with cocktails as the sun sets. Use the fully stocked kitchen to prepare meals or drive a short 5 minutes to one of the areas best steakhouses around! People from 3 surrounding counties drive here for a fine tasty dinner, in a relaxed off-road pub and restaurant, appropriately named "Hunter's Pub". (Other nearby favorites include: San Marcos-Authentic Mexican food )

The unique setting and history of this cabin and property make it a desirable place to stay when visiting nearby Callaway Gardens during holiday weekends, weddings, and other events. It is also close to the Lodge and Spa with resort dining options, as well as the local antique shopping in pine mountain. And when you want to venture down the interstate to Columbus you can enjoy bowling, shopping, theaters, trampoline parks, river rafting, bars, laser tag and museums.

**Inquire if you would like to book dates to tour the private residence lodge or the outdoor property including the old wine cellar, koi ponds, blueberry orchard, and trails among the forest of azaleas, magnolias, springs and creeks which wind the property.*

Perfect Family Getaway
Beautiful scenery. Magnolias line the entryway as you turn into the gate and drive over the bridge to the private lake. Then we were welcomed with greetings from ‘Henry’ the St. Bernard and rest of the doggy crew. My daughter loved ‘Molly’, but Henry definitely stole the show and our son’s attention. The lake was wonderful. Kids & adults enjoyed the paddle boat and boards. We enjoyed walking trails on the property. The history of the property was a major plus for husband; with a tour of the main house. We ventured to the Wild Safari for a day experience that was great for laughs and a good time. Unfortunately, the azaleas were not in bloom this early because they are summer blooming azaleas we found out. These azaleas were locally found and cultivated by the Callaways. We will definitely be back! So much to see and do in this area. Our host was very welcoming and knowledgeable about the Callaways and history of the land. Great trip!

Callaway Gardens Family Vacation
Perfect for our 3 families; own bedrooms & bathrooms. Loved the lake & woods views. Great Kitchen. Close to Callway, Animal Safari & horseback riding, restaurants, & grocery stores. If the weather was warmer, we would have spent time on the porch & deck. The kids loved the dogs! Hosts were only a phone call away. Would definitely stay again! Fall would be beautiful!
