Whirlwind WCU Orientation
Very quick mountain trip for our granddaughter's orientation. Ive rented several properties through VRBO but never one that was as well stocked and cozy as this one. Our host, Mark, was so accommodating. Everything was perfect. My only regret is we didn't have more time to enjoy the area. The description of this property is spot on. We are looking forward to visiting again soon.

Just perfect
Mark, the owner, was incredible from initial booking through checkout. His property is absolutely the most well stocked of any we have ever stayed in. Literally, bring your people and food and some firewood. Then, sit back and enjoy the view, the porch, the fire pits, the stargazing, the quiet. A perfect Christmas holiday in the mountains.

Great Cabin… beautiful views.
We loved our mountian cabin getaway. The house is very spacious for the family to spread out but also cozy. The views are amazing. Being able to watch deer graze while drinking coffee on the front porch was a much needed break from our daily rushed routine. You can tell Mark takes pride in his home/property. He was very helpful with all my questions and made sure we everything we needed. It was a pleasure for my family to have the opportunity to stay in this cabin. We can’t wait to come back!

Nice and Quiet
This was our second time staying here. It's a great location if you're looking for a place that offers some peace and quiet. The house is always well furnished with everything you need. Fresh eggs from the chickens too! Mark is always super friendly and he's great about responding back to you if you have any questions or concerns. Another great stay!

After many years of the "big city" life it was time for a change. Having grown up around NC and spending many of my formative years in the mountains as a young boy it was time to return. No more hustle and bustle of fast paced city life, no more long bumper to bumper traffic jams and most importantly..... peaceful serenity and quietness. It's a place to sit back and relax, gaze into the mountains and trees, see an occasional deer in the field and "let your soul catch up with you" as my step Dad used to say. I hope your stay here provides you with the same. Enjoy your time here and I hope its the beginning of many future stays.

Why they chose this property

Property is located on 5 acres which contains fruit trees, grape vines, blueberry bushes, chestnut trees and a creek that has running water usually in late fall and winter. Wooded area behind house and serene views of the mountains from the back deck rocking chairs. House has a total of 4 decks. House location is close to lakes (Bear lake only 11 miles), rivers (Caney Fork river is 1/2 mile and Tuckasegee river is 2 miles and excellent for fly fishing and kayaking). Judaculla Rock is only 1/2 mile away and has a special and sacred history amongst the Cherokee Indians. Google it for more information. Asheville is a 45 minute drive. Maggie Valley with its ski resort (Cataloochie) and Cherokee with it's Casino is only 30 minutes away. Blue berries are ready for the picking in late July thru mid September so "help yourself" if you're here during that timeframe!

What makes this property unique

Kayaks are located on the property and available to rent for only $30 each for a 3 hour period. Owner will transport the kayaks to and from Bear Lake for you which is only 11 miles from the cabin. There is also a guided kayak paddle excursion which leads you to a small island (great for a picnic or a brief rest) and then over to a short and easy 20 minute hike to view Flat Rock Falls (approx. 150" high). This guided paddle trip is an additional $60 and lasts around 3-4 hours.
Solitude and dark star-filled nights, great motorcycle roads, close proximity to the Blue Ridge Parkway and great mountain towns are only a few of the many things to enjoy during your stay. Waterfalls and great hikes are close by as well. Tuckasegee River is 3 miles from the house and offers great kayaking, tubing and fly fishing.
