“Mas Saline” is a wonderful stone farmhouse set right in the middle of nature in Gualta, close to Girona and Barcelona, but in a different world altogether. Located in the heart of the Costa Brava, in a privileged place in the "Natural Reserve of Baix Ter and Medas Islands", only 5 min drive from the golden sand beaches of Pals. The property is a paradise for families with children. Peacefully secluded between the fields and connected to the world only by a farm road surrounded by apple and sunflower fields. The old house, completely renovated, is located in the middle of a 5 hectare property of land in full production of Golden Apples, Extra Virgin Olive Oil and alfalfa that is used to feed the family of horses and ponies that live on the farm. The house is on two levels and is a perfect example of tasteful, rural elegance.

Quiet endless garden: The house is totally isolated in a silent oasis, surrounded by a healthy nature. Crossing the fields of apples and corn, you will arrive at our house, where we have created a natural garden of about 4.000 sqm. There we have the swimming pool and a chill-out area, where you can have fresh meals and romantic moonlight dinners. The garden has ideal spaces for mindfulness sessions at dawn, or for yoga sessions enjoying the magical sunsets. A little further on we have the grass football field and the olive groves.

Functional and tasteful: The entire house is decorated with a functional yet cool taste, meant to give people all what's needed to have a luxurious and comfortable stay. Large 650 sq foot kitchen area, fully equipped with generous working space for gastronomy lovers. Thick teak 250cm dining table with 12 chairs flanked by a big fireplace with a restored original stone bread oven. All bedrooms have good beds and impressive views of all the Emporda plain and the Castle of Montgri. Bathrooms are complete and the 3 livings are very comfortable. 2 living rooms in the ground floor, Satellite TV, board games table, chess table and fireplace. WiFi broadband connection. An old stone walled stable and porticoed courtyard, perfect for intimate al fresco lunches, and romantic candlelit dinners. Thanks to the stone walls, the house is fresh in summer, and very comfortable in our temperate winters. Equipped with double glass windows and modern central heating system for winter season.

Seasons:
Spring time is explosive in our property; nature begins to flow in torrents. Birds nesting and crops growing. Wonderful sky light, and crystal clear atmosphere. Landscape is brightly green.

Summer: High season. Our area is in full action: unlimited experiences to discover on the beach or in the medieval villages of the interior, water sports, sunbathing, sailing, playing golf, horseback riding, relaxing in the swimming pool, reading in our quiet endless garden, living a relaxed farm live while enjoying the total privacy of our property, hiking, sightseeing, gastronomy, slow food, organic products, day trips to beautiful Girona or to vibrant artistic Barcelona.....

Apple harvest season: starting early in september, the harvesters enter the estate to collect more than 100 tm of fresh and juicy "Golden Apples". Really worth to be around during these dates to get some… an apple a day keeps the doctor away!

"Extra Virgin Olive Oil" harvest season: Held during one week, variable from late october to early december. The Olive harvesting is a unique experience to live if you visit us during these dates!.

Winter season: life in our property is so peaceful and enriching for the soul. 3 large fireplaces, and the best wood stored, are ready for your calm evenings of reading and relax.

Activities: Winter and Spring are the best seasons to practice horseback riding and cycling in our property. The Mediterranean sun shines almost every day. During winter/spring, horses love to gallop across the farm roads leading to medieval villages. The best reward before going back home is a long gallop along the dunes of Pals beach.

Golf lovers will love to hear that the prestigious “Emporda Golf Resort” (18 links / 18 forests), and the “Par 3 Gualta”, both are at a mere 5 min distance from the property across the farm road.

Diving and Water sports in the 'Medas Islands' diving resort, in Estartit, 10 min away by car.

Cool nightlife with fashionable places in almost every small village in the area. Two of the coolest open air nightclub/restaurants in Costa Brava: the “Mas Sorrer Jazz Bar” and the "Aerodrom Club" are located just 5 minutes drive.

A private, historic, and artistic gem

This place is such a gem. It’s incredibly private, surrounded by farm land. Despite its privacy, you are 5 mins from a fantastic local grocery store with local produce and meat. The house is so artistically restored, with beautiful mementos and artifacts around the house. My family really felt like they were staying in a fantastic, beautiful family home for a week. Roger was also incredibly easy to reach and quick to help with any question or concern. We would love to stay here again. Wheat a pleasure.

Magnifique séjour d’une semaine dans ce havre de paix. Roger, le propriétaire est aux petits soins et vraiment adorable et arrangeant. A 5 minutes en voiture de la mer, nous avons adoré profiter des plages de la Costa Brava. La maison est très spacieuse et bien équipée. Entre les pommiers et les pres de chevaux, nous avons aussi beaucoup profité du calme du jardin et de la piscine. Nous reviendrons avec grand plaisir !

A hidden treasure

This was a wonderful location for a family holiday (7 adults and 2 infants). The house is spacious and in a lovely setting with very large grounds. Whilst it has the benefits of being away from other properties (finding it will test your satnav!), it is not far to the nearest shops, some unspoilt towns or the beach. There are lots of games etc so it's perfect for either an active or a relaxing holiday. Our host Roger was extremely helpful both in relation to the booking process and liaising with us during our stay at Mas Saline. He also introduced us to Marina, a professional chef, who visited us on 4 of the 7 evenings to cook some wonderful meals. This was a real bonus since having very young children with us it would not have been possible to venture out to restaurants in the evenings. The combination of a lovely house in beautiful, quiet surroundings with our own personal chef meant that we had a great holiday.

Wonderful holiday in a farm

We spent the most amazing time in Mas Salinas farm. The house is big, spacious and can accommodate very big families. It has plenty of hidden corners which is like paradise for children with so many things to explore. The garden is huge, has several settings in the shade which is very welcome in hot summer days. The pool and the animals (horses, cats with kittens and hens) were our favorite spots where we spent hours with kiddos. If you are not afraid of getting your hands dirty, you can feed horses, bring water to them, collect eggs, feed cats and experience life in a farm in so many other ways...Also, apples from the garden were absolutely delicious!!!

Beautiful hacienda in farm country

We spent 5 days for a family vacation and reunion at this hacienda right by Torroella de Montgri. We loved our time there. The property is out amidst apple orchards with a looming nearby hilltop castle, with lovely surrounding landscaping. The views each evening as we relaxed were stunning. The house itself is rustic and charming, a true Spanish villa. Beds were comfortable. Really quiet at night, so we all slept great. Kids took advantage of small outdoor pool. Horses are on the property (and it can be arranged for you to ride them), and there are 4 (outdoor) resident cats, which my kids really enjoyed. There's even a chicken house that we harvested eggs for breakfast from each morning. There's loads to do nearby: pretty beaches just a few miles away, marine preserves (with boat excursions from L'Estartit), medieval villages and castles (e.g. in stunning Peratallada), ancient Roman and Greek ruins (in Empuries), and museums (e.g. Salvador Dali in Figueres), not to mention numerous great restaurants. Helping us to take advantage of all of that was our fantastic host, Roger. He provided loads of options for us, including putting together itineraries of sight-seeing based on themes of what we were interested in and providing specific restaurant recommendations. He was so kind and agreeable, helping us out with all of our questions. We wish we could go back! Thanks, Roger! If you're planning a Barcelona vacation, get out of town for awhile too and stay at Mas Saline.

Authentic Paradise

What an incredible rustic masia. I booked Mas Saline for my 40th birthday. I had 9 girlfriends from school days flying from all over the world for the reunion. I felt enormous pressure to get the right house - plenty of space, a good kitchen and beautiful grounds. Mas Saline did not disappoint. The setting and character of the house exceeded expectations and we all had 4 days of paradise. The location of the house is super surrounded by lush countryside, quaint villages and beautiful coastline. After years of reunions my girlfriends said this was the best of all time. A huge thanks to a kind and helpful Roger and his family. Hoping to come back for my 50th birthday reunion!

fantastische vakantie

We hebben een onvergetelijke vakantie gehad in deze prachtige Masia waarvan de attente en zeer vriendelijke eigenaar Roger alles regelde wat er nodig mocht zijn. We hebben 2 weken in deze paradijselijke omgeven mogen verblijven. De Masia is gelegen in het midden van appelboomgaarden en mais velden, een oase van rust in de zomer wanneer er veel mensen toeristen naar deze omgeving komen. De locatie is echt een voorrecht voor wie een rustige vakantie wil vieren met gemakkelijke toegang tot verschillende stranden en de charmante dorpjes die kenmerkend zijn voor de omgeving. Roger gaf ons fantastische tips over wat we konden bezichtigen, waar te eten, welke stranden te bezoeken, etc. hij is duidelijk zeer bekend met het gebied. Onze kinderen genoten van de indrukwekkende paarden excursies die hij voor ons had georganiseerd. De waarheid is dat terwijl we nu met de planning van onze volgende vakantie naar Azië bezig zijn ons weer realiseerden dat dit wel een van onze beste familie vakanties is geweest en dat, ondanks veels te laat, dit toch nog even wilde laten weten. Wij hebben een uitstekend herinnering aan Roger en zijn huis en mochten we opnieuw die kant opgaan dan zouden we graag heir opnieuw verblijven..

Fabulous Costa Brava Visit

Our first experience with Home Away was a smashing success thanks to a lovely stay at Mas Saline and very good recommendations from our host, Roger. The location of this beautiful farm home is ideal for visiting the Costa Brava beaches and the numerous medieval towns of the region. The home is a beautifully restored farm house surrounded by apple orchards, olive trees, and gardens. We started each day with fresh eggs on the balcony overlooking the property, and we often ended the day with a swim in the pool. Guests must visit the local market Monday morning, eat at some of the local restaurants, and arrange a horseback riding tour. We would definitely stay here again and recommend it highly to others.

Fabulous place to stay with small or large family

We absolutely LOVED everything about Mas Saline. Roger met us the day we arrived and gave us a very detailed and thorough tour of their lovely home. We had 9 people in our family there and the house was perfect for us. You feel as though you are hidden away in a very secret spot, but you are only 5 minutes from town. The area is perfect for exploring Costa Brava and Roger and Silvia have a binder of information at their home with directions, reviews and suggestions for the area. We took it with us every time we left to explore. We give our highest recommendation for Mas Saline and think it is one of those places that you have to experience. Roger and Silvia came to say goodbye the day before we left and they could not be more charming. We wish we could have stayed longer to get to know them better, but were so glad we had the opportunity to meet them and stay in their gorgeous home. THANK YOU!!

Amazing holiday at a very Nice place

We are 3 couples with 4 young children. We stayed at This house with a hoge garden with pool for a week. The husbands played golf for 3 times. The golf Courses were less Then 5 minutes drive away. We bbq'ed, played pool And went to The beach. The beach is less Then 10 minutes drive away. Shopping, restaurant And supermarkets are less Then 5 minutes away. The landlord Roger was very kind And very helpfull. Thanks Roger for This Amazing week. Your house was so Nice to stay at. We ll be back!

Mas Saline

Mas Saline was an amazing experience for my family and me that we will never forget. It started when we met Roger and his wonderful family at the farmhouse. They were very helpful, answering all our questions, showing us around the house and grounds, giving us tips on places to go and things to see. He also provided maps and brochures of attractions in the area. It was exactly like the photos depicted, a grand stone farmhouse with large rooms and an inviting kitchen. For me the kitchen and outdoor dinner table would be the focus, my children enjoyed the pool, my five year old daughter loved to visit the polo ponies located near the house, my twelve year old son enjoyed gathering fresh eggs in the morning from the eight chicken located in back of the house. The raw natural beauty of the region captivated my wife. The medieval castle in Torroella de Montgri, which sits on a lone hit top, begged us to explore it, while the small and numerous beach coves could be found around every little village. Modern conveniences are not far away and there are lots of local restaurants at various prices to choose from. I highly recommend Vins i Licors Grau, in the village of Palafrugell, for wine and liquor, if you enjoy roasted meats then Barbacoa Can Padres 2 is a must in the famous medieval town of Pals. There are many chain markets for meat, fish and other necessities but if you don’t mind driving a few miles out from Mas Saline then go to Supermarket Esclat in the town Palafrugel, it was a large, clean well stock market with a great fish market. We took a day trip to Carcassonne, France, it was well worth the hour and a half drive to see this intact medieval walled city. The house made our trip that much wonderful. It is large and will easily accommodate two to four families. There is a game room with an inviting fireplace, a large indoor dinning room, a fully stocked with dishes, pots and pans. The kitchen also had spices and other dry goods so you only needed to get a few items. Outside, there are two large grills for barbequing. Places to relax in the garden make it easy to unwind and have a glass of wine or other spirits. Lastly, all I can say is that if you are looking for a memorable place to have a large or small family or friends vacation in a beautiful part of Spain then Mas Saline in CostaBrava is the best choice. Again, we would like to thank Roger and his amazing family for sharing their home and giving us fantastic memories.

A country-side oasis, within reach of beaches!

First thing that comes to mind is the warm hospitality and cooperativeness of the house owner. Roger and his family are very friendly people, a warm thanks goes out to them for making us have a splendid time at their lovely country house. The craftly restored house is beautifully located in between farm fields with apples and corn. Harvesting was on when we rented the house in the month of September, the kids just loved it! Our eldest daughter of three enjoyed the horses that live on the property, and she actually loved sitting on Bamba the pony several times. Feeding apples to the horses was a fun ritual, as well as our daily treat of four fresh chicken eggs from the child friendly chicken on the property. The kids also made friends with Mitsie the cat that lives there and showed up off and on. All on all, a heaven for kids, with the large open garden and classic formed swimming pool well-constructed for kids. The house interior is also child proof, and consisted of a well equipped kitchen with great large oven, a spacious eating table, and kids’ corner. There was a play room which we hardly used because of the great outdoors and weather we enjoyed the entire month. The bedrooms were comfortable as were the bathrooms, all very decent and in proper shape. The office was also well equipped for some works while having fun. The TV-room offers a decent collection of children’s movies which we watched once or twice after a long day of sun and fun. A large grocery chain is within 5 minutes’ drive as is the town of Torroella de Montgri with all possible shops, amongst which a fabulours butcher and bakery as well as a classy coffee bar with decent prices. The closest beach is on a 10-15 minute drive which is indeed very close-by allowing for the flexibility to go to the beach in mornings or afternoons, while being able to enjoy lunch at home under the tree in the spacious garden. The area is top-notch, not for nothing is it called Trainglo d’Or for its slopped hills and beautiful medieval villages which offer great site seeing and mouthwatering restaurants. All in all, plenty of enjoyable things in and around the house, and the region. We look back to the house with a great smile and advise anyone interested in renting a country house in the region, to pick this one as you choice. We fell in love with the area and the house, definitely it’s well worth the money spent. Thanks once again to Roger, Silvia, and the kids.

Wonderful in Every Way

We adored our stay at Mas Saline, the superbly converted farmhouse offered ample and spacious accommodation for our family stay, in a superb setting amongst apple orchards and olive groves. Its location was perfect for exploring this beautiful area of Catalonia. We really enjoyed exploring the immediate countryside, there are several beautifully preserved medieval villages within easy cycling distance. The last day we did part of the 'Cami de Ronda', an ancient smugglers path along the stunning coastal scenery of the Costa Brava. The section we did, between the beach at Castell and Calella de Palafrugell is beautiful, with stunning virgin coves along the way. The house and area are just stunning!, and going in late may was probably perfect - not too hot, not so crowded. We are hoping to come back as we didn't have enough time to see it all!. Thank you for all your help in making it a magical week for us all, we enjoyed our stay immensely!

Amazing find in a beautiful region

My family spent a week at Mas Saline to celebrate my parents 50th wedding anniversary. We had three generations staying at the house and it could not have been more perfect. The house is wonderful--lots of room, fantastic grounds, and wonderful amenities. We were simply in heaven. The house is situated in a fantastic region to explore--lots of wonderful medieval towns to explore, the beach is a 10 minute drive. You can hike, bike, or simply relax. The village of Torroella di Montgri was very charming and we had our favorite meat shop and pastry shop. Roger and Silvia are incredibly sweet and took fantastic care of us. They can recommend things to do, places to eat, and ways to have fun. We happened to be there during the Festival of Sant Joan which was very special. We saw the most amazing fireworks. We did not want to leave the house. We had three teenagers who were happy with the WiFi and the pool, and being able to explore the grounds. We had lots of room for the eight of us, although we always seemed to gather in the large kitchen! Sitting outside and listening to the birds and enjoying the constant breeze was incredibly relaxing. If you want a wonderful retreat in a beautiful area--this is the place to stay. The house is wonderful--right out of a movie! Roger and Silvia will take wonderful care of you and you will have an amazing time!

Idyllic setting for family vacation

Mas Saline is a charming, rustic farmhouse conveniently located close to Torroella de Montgri in the heart of the Costa Brava. The owners, Roger and Silvia, are very sweet, lovely people. The house is comfortable and there was plenty of space for 12 people. Our family had a wonderful time cooking in the large kitchen, and picking tree-ripened plums from the garden while the kids splashed in the pool. The kids also enjoyed petting the gentle horses which we could see from the house. Mornings were calm and lit with golden light on the apple and corn fields and the chirps of birds. We went scuba diving at L'estartit in the Illes Medes marine preserve just 15 mins away. The ruins of Empuries are 20 mins. Girona 30 mins. Cadaqués was 1 hr 20 mins drive, Dalí Castell de Púbol 15 mins. Also nearby are the gorgeous coves and beaches of Begur and Llafranc. I would heartily recommend the house to others. The only drawbacks were that it is a little dark inside the house, and the ceramic tile floors are rough on the feet, so I recommend bringing some house slippers to wear when inside. If you are looking for a peaceful and authentic location, this is it.

A five star house from five star owners

My family spent a week at Mas Saline this past July of 2012. I am from Barcelona myself, married to an American from New Jersey. We currently live in the US and this past summer I wanted to have my American family to experience the "Costa Brava", our food, our landscapes, the history and our people. We looked over and over for the perfect place and, we finally we came across with Mas Saline. What to say about Mas Saline, Roger and Silvia (the owners)... I, personally, have since been dreaming of those breezy afternoons sitting outside, the smell of the lavender they have planted in the magnificent outdoor space, the delicious good taste in decorating the typical Catalan farm house from the XVIII century, the dinners we had "al fresco" with the local wines, the plumb tree in front of the house with the sweetest plumbs... It was also the best experience for our two years old daughter and her cousin, who were able to run outside with the horses they have in the property and the perfect pool for kids and adults, as well as the garden with fresh produce. The house has all the amenities for kids and, you can tell the owners have kids of their own. Mas Saline is close to the beaches and medieval towns and, at the same time, you have all the privacy you wish for. We will definitely repeat the experience whenever we have the chance. Roger and his wife, Silvia, will help you with anything you may need and are very responsive. As a final note, I wanted to mention my father in law's last night at the house when he made a toast, he got all emotional and said that this had been one of the best, if not the best vacation of his life. Mission accomplished... Thank you Mas Saline! Thank you Roger and Silvia!

Paradise for Families

We (5 adults/6 kids) have stayed for a week at this wonderful family retreat, which boast tasteful interior, ample space inside and outside of the house, TV, Internet, swimming pool and horses. The house has been restored with charming details by owners Sylvia and Roger, who were also extremely helpful when preparing our trip, checking in, providing us with useful local information and being also very responsive during our stay. Roger helped us to organize horse back riding lessons for the kids in the evenings on the property and the surrounding fields, an unfogettable experience for all of us. The vicinity of golf courses, beaches, supermarkets and local shops (all about 10 minutes by car) made our stay convenient and memorable. While there are plenty of attractive dining options around we found ourselves staying home every night of the week enjoying the wonderful setting and local food. I would (and have already) recommend this property to my friends.

Idyllic Mas Saline

Mas Saline has got the 'wow' factor in abundance! Everything from the idyllic drive through the apple orchard to the rustic charm of the farmhouse conjures up the perfect holiday setting. The grounds and facilities are second to none...so good in fact that had it not been for the beautiful beaches and charming villages on its doorstep waiting to be explored we would have hardly left!
