About this property
Kar-Din-Yaa Cottage Dandenongs
Situated in the foothills of the beautiful Dandenong Ranges surrounded by 400 ac of virgin bush and a 7 acre English garden.
Kar-Din-Yaa Cottage, meaning 'facing the sun' is a birdlover's paradise and a romantic retreat.
Built 100 years ago of cedar planks designed like a European ski cottage, it sits in its surroundings like it is homogenously grown there.
The pure air of its altitude (350 m) was already appreciated as a health resort 100 years ago.
The cool winds from the sea in summer and the winter mists and sometimes even snow adds to its health giving properties
At every time of the year there are blossoms in the garden and the birds, parrots, lorikeets and kookaburras as well as foreigners like blackbirds delight with their morning song.
Kangaroos and wallabies come close to the door (and eat the roses). Echidnas and Wombats cross the lane that leads to the house.
Comforting to look at from the outside it is very cosy inside. A large bay window floods the 4 square living room with light. A piano invites you to try your best. Cedar boards covered with Persian and Chinese carpets add to the cosmopolitan feel within.
The master bedroom with windows open to the morning sun has ample cupboard space.
The second bedroom with a queen size bed can house the rest of the family. Both bedrooms are carpeted throughout.
The kitchen, clad in the original 100 year old cedar boards hold nevertheless all modern amenities.
Take your cup of coffee out to the covered front porch, where a Balinese bench invites you to sit and inhale the peaceful surrounds. Or take your breakfast on the antique table.
The bathroom has mountains of fluffy white towels and personal care items. A bath to soak in, candles and music to make you feel that the hustle and bustle of your world - is miles away.
The large terrace built from Australian trees outside the kitchen invites you to a barbeque in the open and overlooks a pond where frogs and ducks are at home.
