About this property
Secluded getaway on Lake Catherine, minutes from town - birds, fishing, & kayaks
About our listing: A meticulously kept two story lakefront with beautiful views of lake, mountain, and sunset. Includes fishing dock, canoe, paddle boat, kayak and outdoor seating with fire pit. Enter from either 1st or 2nd story. Upstairs is one 20x25 bedroom/ sitting room with wall of windows facing lake. It has one king size bed, two swivel rockers, leather easy chair, coffee bar alcove with 2 stools and table, 40" TV, electric fireplace, closet and armoire. Flooring is lovely antique pine board.
Downstairs has a large, very well equipped kitchen (no dishwasher) with cherry cabinets, repurposed cedar wood butcher block counters with 4 oak swivel bar stools, a round oak table and stainless steel appliances. Under the stairwell is cushioned seating with storage underneath. The stairs feature drift/curly vine wood railing.
Seating downstairs also includes an inner-spring, double/queen futon. The 7x9 bathroom has a tiled shower, cherry cabinet, one sink, toilet and closet. The downstairs floor is scored and stained concrete with area carpets.
The cottage is designed for 2-3 adults (age 25 and older, pls). No children and no pets.
NOTE for winter season visitors: This year the local lakes will be lowered 5 feet from early November 2025 to early March 2026.; also lowered 2 additional feet in December and January for a city project. During this time, many if not most lake properties have either limited lake access or little water under their docks. That said, you will still enjoy the Blue Heron Cottage comforts, views and wildlife, and the Hot Springs’ attractions and recreation – shoreline hikes, the downtown galleries, the National Park, Oaklawn Race and Gaming, etc. Please see numerous reviews by our guests (during the several fall/winter seasons), including the following:
"We enjoyed watching the geese fly in at night and then fly out in the morning."
"In the morning, we watched lots of song birds in the back yard and watched seagulls flying over the lake….we were even able to see an eagle on our last day. It was a great stay and I can't wait to stay again."
"In a secluded natural setting the cottage is spacious and well lit as well as comfortable. . . . Great location from Hot Springs and Garven Woodland Gardens!”
“At this cottage you are a few minutes from all the great spots in Hot Springs and a short drive to some of the most popular mines. The best part is the cabin is newly remodeled with gorgeous furnishing. . . . tastefully decorated and not too kitsch like some lake cabins."
"Not to mention, the inside is as beautiful as the scenery! You can tell a lot of time and thought went into making this place special. There is so much character that you'll just have to see for yourself."
"We originally booked for 4 nights, but after seeing the place, was very fortunate to be able to extend another night. And we are so glad we did. We were able to get in a round of golf at a nice, but challenging 9-hole course within walking distance of the cottage. The road leading to the cottage is secluded and no traffic, so we took advantage of walks. We used the chiminea both during the day and at night to relax by the lake and to cook smores. There were games available in the cottage along with a number of paperback books to read."
