Welcome to The Lake James Retreat — your perfect family-friendly lakefront getaway!

Relax and enjoy all the comforts of home at our spacious, welcoming property — perfectly located to enjoy the action of the lake while still offering peace and quiet when you want it.

Our home comfortably sleeps 12 guests in beds: 1 king, 1 queen, 1 full, and 6 twin beds — ideal for large families or groups. The interior is cozy, clean, and designed for gathering, and our professional cleaning crew ensures the home is spotless between guests, following enhanced COVID precautions.

The large, flat front yard is perfect for family games, while the shallow waterfront area is great for safe swimming. We are directly across from Pokagon Beach and Pokagon State Park, offering stunning views year-round — from summer sunsets and vibrant fall colors to a true winter wonderland.

Love the outdoors? Pokagon State Park features horseback riding, hiking trails, fishing, and a beach — all just steps away! Local pontoon rentals are available and can be conveniently docked at our private pier.

Our screened-in porch is a guest favorite — relax with a breeze from the ceiling fans, stay protected from bugs, and soak in the beautiful lake views. Whether it’s sunshine or a cool evening under the outdoor lights, our yard and porch are perfect for gathering.

For family fun, we provide cornhole and washer boards, plus plenty of open space for outdoor play. Nearby, you’ll find a variety of restaurants, fast food options, and outlet shopping.

We had a great stay at Chandra’s lake house. The house was clean and well equipped in the kitchen with plenty of beach towels. The children enjoyeand adults enjoyed the paddle boards and kayaks, and the lake was great for skiing, wakeboarding, surfing, and tubing.

Family Summer Vacation

This is the first time we rented at the Lake James Retreat and we loved it! My family spends a week at the lake every summer and thoroughly enjoyed this property. Surrounding neighbors were so kind and inviting, the house and yard were extremely accommodating for yard games, family dinners and sleeping arrangements. Highly recommend!

Great location

Our stay from Aug 2 to 9 was awesome. We had lots of fun. The cottage was nice. It needs a little fixing, like the railing and stuff. It could have better lighting inside. From the road to cottage is definitely a steep ramp. But overall all everything was great.

Family Vacation

We had an amazing trip here with our family! The hosts were very nice and responded to messages quickly. The dock was very sturdy and worked well for our boat that we rented from a local company. The swimming wasn’t as ideal as we thought with it being very deep and seaweed at the end of the dock, but the close sandbars made up for that! The kids caught a ton of fish! The screened in porch was wonderful! Highly highly recommend a wagon for going up and down the ramp with your supplies as it is very steep. Overall a great week!

A Great Place for a Lake James Experience

There were 14 (10 adults and 4 kids), that stayed, and the House accommodated us well. The location on the lake is interesting with the narrowed link between basins for water activity watching. The sandbar out front worked well for swimming. The amenities are good and as others stated, the screened porch is a cool place to watch the lake and chill. Parking is excellent. Experiences with other rentals has been that we had to store trailers and park vehicles in other locations. We were able to park two boat trailers, a Jet Ski trailer and a utility trailer along with seven other vehicles at the house. The lake front and dock also accommodated two boats and two jet skis.

Family Getaway

The haul up/down the hill to the house was not expected. My advice is to bring a wagon for the haul. The kitchen appliances need updated. The freezer doesn't have an ice maker. The stove back burner wasn't working and the oven was marginal. Then we found out from the owner after we loaded the dishwasher that it doesn't work. I request a $400.00 inconvenience refund and received 250.00.We stayed during 90 degree heat and the AC works well. The view from the porch is beautiful! We spend a lot of time on the porch overlooking the lake. Once your at the house the front yard is flat as you head towards the lake. The dock is very nice. The house is fully stocked with everything you need, towels, toiletries and the kitchen had many spices, dishes, pans all the items needed for cooking. Washer and Dryer worked well. The house has APPLE TV and we could only find the connecting cord for one of the apple tv boxes. The owner said there were two but we could only use one APPLE TV BOX on just one TV. The trip overall was very nice. If the owner would update to new appliances I would give this rental a 5 star review.

Fun with Fam and Friends

The house was wonderful. It's in a great location on Lake James and in relation to Tom's Donuts/4-Corners. We docked our boat on the pier and were able to enjoy paddle boarding and kayaking in the cove. The house had everything we needed and we loved spending time on the screened in porch at night. The owners were super responsive to any questions we had and the neighbors were extremely friendly and helpful as well. Would love to come back to this house next Summer!

Incredible Family Week Vacation

This property could not have been better! Our family of high school age kids and adults had a great week on the lake and enjoying the outdoor property. The house is neat and maintained very well and was spacious enough for our large family. We were able to enjoy the lake with the pontoon and jet ski we rented. The kids were able to play bean bags, whiffle ball and more on the spacious lawn. The neighbors are great and the owners were very responsive with any questions we had during our stay. Bonus that the pontoon is rented on the lake for easy pick up and return. Shopping is close for groceries and cute town shops for donuts, ice cream and more. Would definitely rent again.

Wonderful week with family!

We had such a great time at Chandra & Brad's lake home! They were kind, generous, and excellent communicators. The house was clean and had everything we needed. We truly felt like we were at "home" throughout the entire week. We rented a pontoon and spent a great deal of time out on the water. They allowed for us to use their two kayaks and two paddleboards, and we especially enjoyed those in the early morning! Plenty of yard activities (balls, cornhole, etc.) for the kids were available to us as well. The swim area around the pier is mucky & weedy, but if you have rafts to float on, then it is tolerable for a quick dip. The Lake James Sandbar was a fun alternative. The house is downhill and a bit of a distance from the road/driveway, so just keep that in mind when you are packing and planning to load/unload the car. On a positive note, it gave us plenty of exercise! We used mostly paper products and single drink bottles throughout the week so that we could spend more time having fun and less time washing dishes. This caused the single trash dumpster to fill up. One extra dumpster would have been helpful. I would also recommend that you bring your own television streaming devices and/or antenna so that you can use the many TV's available. Overall, we had a great time and hope to visit again someday:) We would definitely recommend Chandra & Brad's home for a week-long summer getaway!

We’re based in Fort Wayne and blended our family in 2017. Brad, originally from Ohio (Go Buckeyes!), has two college sophomores — one at Ball State and one at Purdue — as well as a freshman at Carroll High School. Chandra, originally from Southern Illinois, has a daughter who is a senior at Leo High School.

We love hosting our lake home on VRBO because we want to share the many years of wonderful memories we’ve made here. With our busy schedules, we don’t get to enjoy the house as much as we used to — and we’re excited to offer it to other families looking to make their own lake memories.

Our home is tucked away on a quiet dead-end street with no through traffic — perfect for families looking for peace and safety. There’s plenty of parking behind the house, and a large, flat front yard that’s perfect for games and gatherings.

Boat traffic stays well away from the shoreline in front of our property, making it safe for swimming and playing in the water. Plus, we’re surrounded by wonderful neighbors and enjoy stunning views all year round!
