From your first steps onto this property, you know you are looking at something special. Before you even enter the house, there will be no question that staying in a historic home of this stature is a rarity. A product of a prominent local architecture firm of its time, this residence has been carefully renovated to retain the original charm of 1916 and preserve history, while including modern updates and conveniences.
The home sits on a charming street downtown, and as a guest, you will get the unique opportunity of being situated between a sprawling city park with a gazebo and mature trees, and award winning restaurants and breweries. The location allows for the convenience of being in the middle of everything fun without the noise of being in the center of downtown.
The decor of the home compliments the antiquity, so you feel as if you are in a different era. Large, beautiful windows are found throughout the home, making it bright and open and allowing for great views of this enchanting neighborhood. As a guest, you will enjoy some of the property’s original features, such as the the tongue-and-groove heart pine floors, wood doors, brass knobs, and original pale yellow tile surrounding the firebox (to name a few). The spaciousness of this 5 bedroom, 3.5 bathroom house allows for the chance to get away while still providing the comforts of home. It is large enough that everyone can stay together under one roof, but with the bedrooms spanning three floors, there is enough space for you and your traveling companions to spread out. If you wish to stay in and cook, the kitchen has brand new appliances and all the utensils, pots/pans, small appliances - and even spices- you need to make breakfast, lunch or dinner! You can eat together in the adjacent dining room or spread out into the nearby sunroom and watch television.
You will appreciate tasteful touches throughout the home that make this an extra special getaway. Everything you might need to feel comfortable are at your disposal, including freshly laundered towels and sheets, cozy blankets, a sound machine, laundry room with washer/dryer and detergent, comfortable beds and K-Cups to go with the Keurig. For those traveling with babies, we also provide a crib, changing table, baby bathtub and high chair for your convenience. There is even a place to work on the third floor, with a desk off the loft’s bedroom. In addition, there are three reserved parking spots and on-street parking.
To maintain the quality of this home and keep a hypoallergenic environment, there are no pets allowed. Smoking, drugs and parties are not permitted.
We would love for you to add to the many memories that have already been made here. Our entire team is here to serve you, so let us know if we can help!

The house was perfect for our family of 6 with mixed ages. We thoroughly enjoyed being able to gather in the living room and chat and catch up. The assortment of wine glasses were a plus!
This house has so much character and was well stocked for all our needs. The location is great with options to walk to several good West End restaurants. Definitely recommend!
Loved the historical ambience of the house and neighborhood!Perfect for our family holiday gathering! Very comfortable for visiting, dining, and sleeping! Thanks
This house was perfect for our girls weekend away. We each had our own room and also wonderful common spaces to spend time together. The home is so close to many restaurants and shops and we enjoyed exploring the city. Easy check in, clean, easy communication!
Very accommodating for the graduation celebration. It was very close to restaurants and cafe’s. It was close to graduation venue and to the campus. I loved the walk ability of the neighborhood the house was located.
Lots of character, GREAT location for sure. Management was terrific and communication was spot on. We were dealing with 90 degrees but AC worked wonderfully. Kitchen itself is a little small and some of the furniture was a little rickety but it was older decor to match the home.
We had a small problem and the owners were very quick to respond and apologetic. They even brought over a delicious local pastry. The park next to the home was perfect for the grandkids. The cafe across the street had great prices and food.
Beautiful old historic home.
My housemates and I were attending a conference at the Benton Convention Center in downtown Winston Salem. The house was an excellent alternative to a hotel for our stay. It was really close to the downtown, Old Salem, and loads of great restaurants and shops. The house itself is super charming with loads of history and character. The park literally next door was icing on the cake.
This is an interesting house with lots of charm and historical fixtures. Of course this means you will also have creaky/tilted floors and broken door knobs but that is part of the charm, isn’t it?? The house was extremely clean, beds were comfortable and rooms were set up well for a multi-generational family of 10. Some of the downsides were the limited size for an area to assemble, especially if you wanted to watch a movie (tv room was a small den). Also, one of the bathrooms upstairs was a Jack-and-Jill which is always awkward. Finally, communication with the host was mixed/spotty. They were extra communicative at the beginning and the property owner was extremely helpful to return an item that was left at the house, but they did not respond to queries which reduced the overall positive experience.
We enjoyed our stay in this large, beautiful historic home. The historic part means the windows leak a lot of cold air when it's cold outside, and the heat struggled our first day/evening and couldn't get above 65 degrees inside on the first floor. But the bedrooms got warmer (the thermostat is in the living room) and the next few days were fine. The kitchen is very well-stocked, and everyone found the beds very comfortable. Easy walk to places downtown-- some restaurants and bars are within only a block or two.
This place was great. It's in a fantastic area with plenty of parking, but an easy walk to tons of cute shops and restaurants. It was the CLEANEST VRBO I've ever stayed in. The kitchen and bathrooms were nicely stocked.
It should be noted that the place is old, and has some of the quirks that go with an older place. I would not recommend this for someone with a disability - you need to be able to maneuver some stairs and odd turns.
The one bit of criticism I have is that it could use a little maintenance - notably the mattresses tend to lack a bit of oomph, the water barrier in my shower was falling down which caused a lot of water leakage, and the couch in the downstairs TV room really needs to be overhauled - it's pretty much unsittable. But these were minor issues and overall the place was just lovely.
We had five couples travelling for a family event. I would stay here again in a second if I had a similar need.
Comfortable Home in a Wonderful Walkable Neighborhood
This is an old, well-maintained property in an historic neighborhood full of trees, The property is clean, well equipped, and was very comfortable for our group. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. There are several very nice restaurants less than a block away, and a small, beautiful city park across the street. If you are walkers, you can walk downtown for some fun shopping. The property is also very close to Reynolda House/Village and SECCA.
A little dated but was great space for extended family to stay for family wedding!

I love the historic architecture in Winston-Salem, and have spent the last 20 years involved in improving properties back to their original beauty. I am concerned about historic preservation, but also understand the need to make these beautiful homes function in our modern life.
Why they chose this property
This is a historic home, located in the original Winston square. It has many unique architectural features, and fits into my mission to preserve these old homes. Vacation rentals are a way to help preserve these homes and at the same time share them with dozens of visitors a year.
What makes this property unique
The location is arguably the best location in Winston-Salem, as it is in the downtown but also features open green spaces. There are 4 very nice restaurants across the street from the property. In addition, foothills brewery is just down the road. Ask us about all the nearby attractions and features!
