About this property

Charming, Scenic Retreat on Deep-Water Cove; Fire Pit and Paddle Boards

BOOK FOR A WEEK (7 nights) AND GET 15% DISCOUNT! Come relax at Lake Place Retreat where multi-level decks overlook the quiet serenity of our deep-water cove on Lake Hartwell. Time spent at Lake Place Retreat will help you unwind with boating, swimming, hiking, or simply resting. We are minutes from Tugaloo State Park, Harbor Light Marina (boat rental available), and the Poplar Springs Boat Launch.

Lake Place Retreat features a great room with a stone fireplace, a large sunroom/dining room, hardwood floors throughout, and whitewashed shiplap walls. Watch the game on one of the flat-screen TVs or enjoy the lake view through the wall of windows in the great room. Granite countertops complement the fully-equipped kitchen. Also on the main floor, we have a master bedroom (king) with en suite bathroom, a second bedroom (queen) with a full hall bathroom, and a laundry room with washer/dryer. Upstairs, you will find a cozy sleeping loft with two beds (twin), the third bedroom (queen) and third full bathroom with tub. A grill and rocking chairs sit on a covered side porch that joins the expansive dual-level deck overlooking the lake. Eight can easily dine on the deck at both high- and low-top tables. Yet another smaller deck can be found off the sunroom. Cozy up to a fire on our large fire pit patio with built-in benches and several Adirondack chairs. Our convenient basement storage room is stocked with two paddle boards and an assortment of floats. Bring your own fishing gear and secure a fishing license and you'll be set. A gently sloping lot with a pea gravel path guides you toward the single-slip covered dock. The deep-water cove opens to Lake Hartwell's pristine 56,000 acres where you can enjoy all aspects of water sports, fishing, and swimming.

Minutes away lies historic Lavonia where quaint shops and restaurants offer a pleasant change from the hustle and bustle of the city. A 30-minute drive will take you Commerce, GA, home to the Tanger Outlets. Clemson University's famous Death Valley stadium is about 45 minutes away. An hour's drive offers the great dining and night life of Athens, shopping at the Mall of Georgia in Buford, or all that up-and-coming downtown Greenville, SC, has to offer.

Please note that while we encourage families, our home is not baby-proofed. We are the perfect spot for multi-generations to stay together away from the stuffy, separateness of a hotel, for the late-night bonding of a girls' trip weekend, or for a few couples who enjoy the "pre-social-media days" of true friendships and real connections. We invite you to come enjoy the charm and peacefulness of our Lake Place Retreat.

Great for a family weekend!
Beautiful property in a quiet part of Lake Hartwell. Our family (kids and adults) had a wonderful time. The home was spacious and the back porch was lovely to relax on. Tugaloo State Park is nearby if you bring your boat. Would stay again!

Great place on the lake
This is one of the best homes our group has rented. It was very clean and well furnished. The kitchen is compact, but has everything you could need. The small porch fridge is great for soft drinks. The upstairs worked well for my nephew and his family. The four adult women shared the downstairs bedrooms. The beds were comfortable. It was nice to have 3 bathrooms. The laundry room was convenient also. A/c and ceiling fans kept the home cool during very hot weather. We were able to play games in the sunroom and others could visit or watch tv in the living room. The walk to the lake was gradual and easy to navigate. It does have one steep step. The dock worked well for launching kayaks and paddleboards. We were able to swim off it also and the water was clean. The first floor is very accessible for anyone with limited mobility, but there are steps into the home. The step to the porch is a little steep. Phone service is spotty but there is internet. The owners were very responsive to any questions. I would recommend this home and hope to rent it again.

About the host

Lake Place Retreat is owned by Helen Chambless and managed by her daughter and son-in-law, Elizabeth and Keith Ward. Helen lives in NC and enjoys gardening and visiting her grandchildren. Keith and Elizabeth live and work in Atlanta. Their oldest son just graduated from Auburn University and the youngest is attending UGA. We clearly need a new picture! Having a place on the lake has been a dream of ours for years, and we are pleased to share it with you. Helen is a native of SC, and Keith and Elizabeth both graduated from Furman University in beautiful Greenville, SC, just up the road. We all fell in love with Lake Hartwell and knew this was the perfect spot for our families to gather. We hope you will share our Lake Place Retreat with your family and friends and create some special memories of your own.

Why they chose this property

Our home is a unique A-frame style lake house with rustic, shiplap walls that have been whitewashed for a bright, airy feel. With three private bedrooms and one sleeping loft, the setup is ideal for 2 families or a girlfriends' getaway, and the three full baths help accommodate everyone. The sunroom allows for a second relaxation area with its own TV and large dining table, big enough for a large puzzle. We spend most of our time on the spacious decks, where there is always some amount of shade. Our cove always has plenty of water. Even in drought years, the lake is at least 12 feet deep in the slip.

What makes this property unique

We have a STRICT no smoking, no pet policy, so you can safely bring your family members who suffer from severe allergies like members of our family do. We know your pet is adorable and sweet, but you'll need to find another house if you must bring Fluffy with you. Also, our house is set up for a MAXIMUM of 8 people, even counting children. If you have more than 8, please keep looking at the other great houses on Hartwell that can accommodate your group.

Most of our guests rave about our multi-level deck and our fire pit patio. Our house is nestled in the woods with plenty of trees for your Enos, but you can always see the water, which is why you come to the lake in the first place. Our cove is quiet and the water is deep. Even when the lake is down, we usually have well over 10 feet in the boat slip at the dock at the end of the pea gravel path. Come and relax and see why this is our happy place!
