Thanks to some very cool friends who've been staying at our various RatherShacks for 5 years... they finally bought a perfect beach house on Folly and asked us to joint venture this with them, so you win because this place is awesome. Meet Jeremy and Lauren. Jeremy works in logistics. If you need a cold one to go from the fridge to the cooler to the coozie quickly then he’s your man. Plus the last few times I drank with him on Folly he wore a different Pearl Jam T-shirt every day. Lauren works for a gaming company that makes one of the most popular video games on the planet, called “Fortnite.” If you haven’t heard of it, your kids have. She can play the ukulele and is also into axe throwing. Plus, she is one of the few ladies I know that can out drink me when it comes to hoppy IPA's. So let’s just say they're super chill and together we’re excited to introduce The TabbyShack.
The relaxation starts when you turn onto a quiet dead end cul-de-sac lined with palm trees and Southern Live oaks called Tabby Drive. It grows when you pull into the huge driveway anchored by live oaks and native landscaping. You can park 4 cars here, it’s that big! With this estate looking beach cottage up on stilts surrounded by porches and palms you realize you’ve found your coastal palace. Step out and see the huge wrap around yard with plenty of room for quiet walks, and kids to play as you gaze out onto the marsh. The lot is nearly twice the size of a standard Folly Beach rental so there is plenty of room for all. You’ll notice the yard is raised nearly 4 feet above the marsh and not only does this create better views it’ll keep your vacation high and dry. With elevated sea levels and the increased frequency of King Tides in the last few years many marsh front properties on Folly now take on water even on sunny days at high tide. With this marvel of engineering and landscaping your toes will stay nice and dry while the neighbors yards are a mucky mess.
Enter the home and continue the roomy feel with the open central living room, white washed country wood plank floors, huge windows, and décor galore. But it’s the chef’s kitchen that really brings the sizzle to this place. Commercial grade Viking range and appliances and a deep farm sink will stir up your inner celebrity chef. The marble counters and island have plenty of room for prep and people for whatever casual or fancy feast you want to dream up. From here you can dine and chat with family members in the living room, and watch TV… this is definitely the place to be.
Off the kitchen is a Sun Room with full height windows and French doors that is great overflow space for sitting, or sleeping. Simply pull out the twin trundle bed, draw the privacy drapes and black out blinds, and you’ve got a 4th “bedroom” nook that comfortably sleeps 2. Adjacent to this is the huge laundry room that’s probably nicer than what you have at home. With a new washer and dryer, folding counter, hanging rod, a flip down ironing board, and tons of shelving you can keep your crew looking clean and crisp during your entire stay.
Just off the Sunroom is the screened in porch where most of your relaxing at TabbyShack happens. It overlooks the marsh and you’ll hear the waves crashing in the distance as you watch the pelicans glide by in front of your peek-a-boo view of the ocean. You can wake up with morning coffee and a sunrise or chill with a cold one and see amazing sunsets over the marsh. With the screens and ceiling fans you can keep the bugs and heat at bay while you snooze on the plush couch or dine with the whole family on the 8ft farm table. Be it shirtless in summer or sweaters in winter you can literally enjoy outdoor dining 12 months a year here.
The hallway off the kitchen takes you to the 3 bedrooms and 2 full hallway bathrooms. One bath has a tile shower/ full height glass door, and the other a tub and shower glass door so whatever your age or family demographic you can scrub a-dub-dub in the way that works for you. Bedroom 1 has a Queen Bed and huge closet. Bedroom 2 is the Master and offers a KING SIZE bed, large closet, ceiling fan, and private French door access to your own 2nd story porch with Lowcountry estate views. Here too you get a peek-a-boo view of the marsh across the street and the Folly River beyond. It has a romantic swing to re connect with the love of your life. Bedroom 3 has twin bunkbeds for the kiddies. I was waiting for a contractor to show up the other day (he was late—go figure), and dozed off on the lower bunk, and I have to say my short time in slumberland was sublime. Yeah, you’ll sleep good here on any bed. All rooms feature high end bedding and plush linens.
The home has all the modern conveniences you would expect at a high end rental. Cable TV, High Speed WIFI, washer/dryer, dishwasher, and a backup generator to keep your vacation running in case of a power outage. A new 2021 HVAC system will keep you comfy year round. A tankless hot water system means you can take those long relaxing showers..
Outside you have your very own hot/cold outdoor shower to wash away the sand and salt, and a gas grill to smoke those meats and veggies to perfection before retiring to your chef’s delight. We provide 8 beach chairs and 8 beach towels for your surfside enjoyment.
Let’s not forget THE BEACH…which is why your’re here after all. It’s just a short walk down the street to the best beach access on Folly. The 13th St E access is one of the few on Folly with no parking spots; it’s just a nice glade of trees that keeps up the tropical island vibe as you approach. Sufboards hang overhead in memory of some of Folly’s famous wave riders. Once there you’ll have the nicest stretch of sand away from the hustle and bustle closer to town, still with views of the Folly Pier in the distance. And because everybody asks…Yesterday I timed myself walking there (with a hangover), and did it in 2-1/2 minutes. If I can do it in that time at my age with THAT hangover, you can do it!. Oh yeah, and the best surfing spot in South Carolina and Folly Beach called THE WASHOUT is just up the road. So if you’re a surfer you’ll love it here.
TabbyShack is about 1-1/2 miles to Center Street, and all the bars and restaurants Folly is famous for. It’s also 1-1/2 miles from Morris Island Lighthouse at the eastern end of the island. The home does not allow pets and is strictly non-smoking.

And now .....for the legal –type stuff: The home is located in a quiet residential section of Folly Beach and we do not allow parties or events. Folly has strict noise ordinance rules and is really cracking down with fines. So you if you want a house party don’t book here. Residential District QUIET HOURS are from 10pm-9am --no loud voices or amplified music inside or out. TabbyShack is strictly NON SMOKING and allows a maximum of 8 guests with 4 off street parking spaces. NO PETS ALLOWED. We require all guests to sign our standard 2-Page South Carolina Short Term Rental Agreement which includes all the house and Folly Beach rules. This is sent to you after you book, along with check-in information. We strongly recommend guests purchase TRIP INSURANCE which can protect you from last minute travel changes due to health, family, weather, or employment issues..…Hope to see you here soon!
