Sonningview is a cosy home away in walking distance (return part uphill) to Long Beach and Nutgrove beach, shops, cafes and close to bus stops.

The quiet neighbourhood is located opposite Alexandra Battery with glorious views of the Derwent River.

Private self contained apartment annexed to the main house in Hobart's beautiful beachside suburb of Sandy Bay. It has its own entrance via the garden where outdoor table and seating is provided.

Close to the Southern Outlet to the Huon and Bruny Ferry. Ten minutes to CBD and Salamanca/Battery Point. Bus services to CBD and southern coastal suburbs. Connections with MONA ferry and bus. Two km to Wrest Point and University.

Bedroom has large picture window with view of Garden and the Mt Wellington pinnacle just an 11k drive away. Queen size bed with electric blanket and linen supplied. Temperature controlled panel heating.

Sitting Room/Dining with TV/DVD player, Tasmanian DVD's and Library, Visitor guides. 2nd panel heater.

It was one of the best places I have stayed, the hosts Janina and Gary can not do enough for you. Met on arrival offered to carry our luggage, very wam people went out of their way to make our stay so enjoyable. Was surprised how big the flat was and spotlessly clean Lovely views close to everything. Would recommend to everyone.

Excellent accommodation. Very homely and comfortable. Lovely garden to relax in and enjoy. Only one thing required is a larger blanket for the bed. It was a double and a queen size would have been warmer.

We love Hobart and although we have travelled a lot we adore coming home. There is so much to do and one doesn't have to travel far before coming across something or somewhere interesting. We came down from Melbourne in 1980 to enjoy our little holiday house in the Derwent Valley for many years and have lived in Hobart permanently since retiring. My photo shows me celebrating a special birthday at MONA's tapas restaurant.

Why they chose this property

We fell in love with our house and its location the instant we saw it. The main house was built in the 1960's and has two special features - the sunken livingroom downstairs and the circular glass room upstairs.

The mountain and river views from around the garden are inspiring. We can walk to beautiful spots along the river, the village shops and cafes on the beach. To help save the planet we keep one car now and we sometimes use the buses which pass by our street.

What makes this property unique

The adjoining 50sqm apartment was built in the 1980's by the previous owners to be used primarily for visiting friends and family. When not in use they welcomed BnB guests. We thought it had a very cosy feel with all the wood panelling and loved the picture window views. After adding a kitchenette and laundry to the unit we have carried on the tradition.

We love that our guests say they enjoy the property's tranquility and the garden. Recently I added a peach tree to the apples and apricot trees. And we try to keep some herbs and lettuces growing for guests to pick fresh. Lately we planted strawberry as well.
