About this property
The Cabin - Your Eco Place In the Mountains
Nestled in the foothills of the World Heritage Barrington Tops National Park, within a short distance of stunning Chichester Dam and only 25mins to Dungog, this rustic cabin, set within the wilderness area is nourishment for the soul.
This corner cabin is high-set to take advantage of breathtaking views. Our recent renovations now offer you a wrap around verandah from which you can soak in the natural surrounding environment in comfort.
Step out of the cabin for, a game of tennis on the grounds or onto walking trails that take you across Williams River and through the heart of the wilderness.
Immerse yourself in the pristine waters of the Williams River. A short walk through the forest of soaring gums, old growth cedars and beeches takes you to the aptly named Crystal pool. This naturally formed deep pool offers a refreshing restorative dip in one of the clearest rivers on mainland Australia. There are also a number of stunning swimming holes along the Blue Gum walking trail, a gentle walk through the majestic forest.
The Cabin is perfect for families with lots to keep children occupied and delighted. Couples looking for a romantic retreat are also well catered for.
The Cabin shares the grounds with other cabins so you may see and hear other guests during your stay.
The cabin features large windows, kitchen areas with stove-top, microwave with open-plan dining/living area leading out to a balcony. Take in the views as you sit out on the historic day bed, sourced from one of the local homesteads and crafted from the superb hardwood timbers the district is celebrated for. You'll be joined most mornings by a variety of wildlife; parrots, Bush turkeys, and the resident wallaby and her joey. Lyrebirds make their nests in the grounds and are often spotted (and heard) from the cabin.
Indulge yourself with a bath at the end of the day. The water is sourced from the nearby river and so offers a pure, relaxing, chemical free soak.
The main queen bedroom is downstairs with 4 singles upstairs.
The cabin offers a largely tech-free retreat - if your idea of a true escape is an internet, mobile phone and TV free environment this is the spot for you! Mobile phone coverage is lost once you enter the park and purposefully there is no wi-fi! There is wifi for emergencies.
For entertainment there are DVDs with a TV/monitor, board games and books. There are also tennis racquets and balls provided for use on the full size court on the grounds.
The local townships of Dungog, Paterson, Gresford and Vacy provide rewarding day trips. Source local produce and wares at the growers markets or enjoy local produce at one of the excellent hotel restaurants or cafes. The historic James theatre in Dungog offers a thoughtfully curated cinema and musical programme. We recommend allowing time for such visits on your arrival or departure as experience tells us that it's hard to leave the tranquil wilderness once you've arrived and settled in.
This, from Philip, is an example of the feedback from guests who've enjoyed the cabin:
This is a compact but comfy and well equipped cabin in an idyllic rainforest location away from phone, internet and busy-ness. Just what we wanted for our mini holiday. Wish we could have had longer than 3 days. Beautiful rainforest walks, the sounds of a myriad of native birds, and loads and loads of peace and respite. We made lots of use of the tennis court and took the bikes out a few times too. Already planning when we can get back there
