Everything was excellent- location, house, the lot- and we were greeted daily by various animals- wallabies, koalas, echidnas! AllAt our doorstep. Loved it.
We loved the Shak! Very spacious and clean. Great location for visiting sites on the south of KI. And we especially loved seeing all of the wallabies right outside (one night there were 10 at once, and one even had a joey). This is a special place and we highly recommend it.
This is a beautifully designed house in a great location near the beach, away from it all. Loved the endless wildlife visits. Liked the little details such as the custom visitor's book. Thanks for a wonderful few days. Highly recommended.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Supershak, which has modern facilities and a great open living space. The house is centrally located on KI, enabling us to cover the island easily. Having the wallabies emerge from the scrub was an added bonus. Highly recommended.
kids enjoy feeding wallabies every day. This house does not have a cool outlooking but very modern inside with all we need. And the fireplace is quite helpful in the cold rainy day.
A great place to stay. Stick up with groceries etc before coming to the island. Be prepared for long driving distances on Kangaroo Island. But beautiful location.
The home is comfortable and gorgeous and we loved the wood heater as it was cold enough to use it and we have one like it at home. Proximity to Flinders Chase NP was important for us and the lovely beach was readily accessible for long walks. But what we loved most were the wallabies that came down to the cottage every afternoon for a feed - they were very entertaining and we loved feeding and watching them.
The Supershak is a very comfortable and well thought out holiday home in the most perfect location. Our family consists of children aged 6-17years and they all loved the place. Highlights of course were the wide open planning living looking onto the wildlife, comfy beds, the coffee machine, the honesty shop across the road, location close to the beach, 1km to the local store, 3kms to the jetty and close to Sahara dunes, Harriet river and Flinders Chase NP. We had the most aamzing family holiday. We will be back!
The wallabies are the star of the show at Supa Shak
This is a great modern take on the 70's beach shak. Nestled into the bush the shak is a 5 min walk to the beach. It has everything you need for a comfortable stay. It is probably time to update the furnishings but it didn't detract from the experience and hey it is a "shak" after all.
Vivonne Bay is a lovely spot and a good base from which to explore all the south coast has to offer. A burger at the general store is a must!
Plan ahead and pick up supplies in Kingscote as there is little on offer close by.
We absolutely loved this spot as our home base on KI. Perfect amount of space for everyone to be able to have a little quiet personal space after our days of adventure. Well appointed and comfortable. Amazing windows and light which allows you to enjoy the show of the wallabies outside. My kids (and who am I kidding...I) enjoyed feeding them and watching their antics throughout our stay. Just a short walk to a gorgeous beach at Vivonne Bay. Catherine was wonderful in her responses and getting back to us quickly with any questions we had. We wouldn't hesitate to return.
We really enjoyed staying here. The house was comfortable, clean and spacious. It is set up well for families and we had the best summer holiday. The house is close to the beach and near to other outdoor activities & the Flinders Chase national park. There was also beautiful wildlife on our doorstep every night. With three energetic kids it was a great place to base to ourselves for long walks and body boarding at the beach, the Harriet river where we went kayaking and near the Sahara sand dunes for sand boarding and also some quad biking which was excellent if that’s your thing. We also did a day trip to explore Western River Cove, Stokes Bay & Emu bay it was a long day of driving but worth it to see all the beautiful beaches and some good lunch spots too (The Rock Pool Cafe. Beach Day Emu Bay and So Sando in Kingscote) Based on our experience: - Stock up on groceries, I recommend bringing breakfast & lunch options and then heading to the Vivonne bay general store (closes a 6pm in summer) or the Parndana pub for dinner open till 8pm. - Book activities ahead of time if you don’t have much flexibly in your schedule - It’s pretty hard to avoid the mozzies so put a bit of insect repellent on before bed We look forward to coming back again next summer
Overall, we were satisfied with the house, its facilities, and the convenient location. However, there is room for improvement in cleanliness, particularly in the bedroom. Unfortunately, we also had a negative experience with the cleaner, whose attitude was quite impolite. He’s yelling to us when we couldn’t check out immediately upon his arrival, despite us informing the owner in advance that we needed a bit more time to clean up the kitchen before leaving. We believe these issues can be addressed to enhance the experience for future guests.

The guests left the house damaged and with egg shell through the bathroom and washing machine. We don’t allow late checkouts in the summer period due to new guest arriving the same day and our cleaner needed the entire 4 hours to repair and clean the home after these guest left.
A well located property with everything we needed. Comfortable beds and a great outlook to the bush, good amenities and modern stove etc. On the day we arrived, there were lots of mosquitoes and small flies but no insect spray, so we would advise future guests to be certain to bring this. (There was repellent but this wasn’t what we needed). Our only other problem was all the non-stick cookware, which was way beyond its use by date and too deteriorated to use. These were just small things however, and we would definitely recommend this accommodation.
The Supa Shak was in a fabulous position on Kangaroo Island. Walking distance to the beach. A very useable house layout for our family with good indoor and outdoor spaces.
We had one very very hot day and the airconditioner was totally ineffectual. With small children in the house this was a problem and sadly we had no response from the owner to our email on this matter. Loved the wildlife around the house everyday and the little "shop" across the road
The house was an absolute pleasure to come home to. It’s comfy, stylish and beautifully appointed, with everything we needed. It made our holiday perfect.
