About this property

Overlooking beautiful Lake Middelton and a glimpse of Lake Ohau

Quirky cottage situated in Ohau Village. A wonderful front garden for enjoying the sunshine and a large sheltered veranda at the back of house with both alpine and lake views. Well equipped with all you should need for a fun alpine/lake holiday. Every room in this house offers a different vista from mountains to lake. Totally decked out for a relaxing stay in the magnificent scenery of Ohau and Mckenzie basin. We are pet friendly as we believe you should be able to bring your fur babies on your vacation but please note this property is not fenced. A 5 minute walk to either Lake Ohau or Lake Middelton. This is a reasonably remote location so if you are not familiar with the area please do your research before booking. The closest grocery store cafes etc are a 25 minute drive. Mt Cook Village is 96kms away. Due to water restrictions the house is not suitable for more than 6 guests.

The most amazing stay

Thank you Clare for sharing your beautiful home with us. This trip was a birthday present for my husband, he wanted to stay somewhere surrounded by nature and mountains and your home was absolutely perfect for us. A very relaxing stay with our dogs

We have enjoyed a very relaxing stay at this well equiped property. Beautiful view from the deck. Shame that it poured down on the first couple of days or else we would spend much more time out on the deck.... with a glass of wine. Last but not least, it was great being able to have a holiday with our dogs in a nice place.

Great mid winter break

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Claire's lovely house. It was perfect for us to take a break, relax and enjoy being in the mountains. We couldn't have asked for more - Claire was great in welcoming us and her home has everything one could need, is tasteful and really comfy. We wished we were snowed in so we could stay even longer. Lovely house in beautiful location

The house is clean, tidy and very comfortable. Everything you need for a home away from home is provided. We love this area with lots of dog walks, tramping, fishing and enjoying the outdoors. I have been managing holiday rentals for over 12 years. At the moment I look after a holiday rental in Christchurch and Kaikoura along with my own property at the lake. I live in Christchurch but I have caretakers who help look after the remote properties. I love the ability to offer a place for families and their pets to enjoy their holidays. It’s so much fun to read the visitors books and also liaise with visitors to our beautiful country who I sometimes get to meet.

Why they chose this property

I have had property in this area for 11 years. My last house at the lake was in need of a lot of maintenance which I couldn’t handle on my own so I decided to sell mid 2019. It didn’t take long to realise how much I missed the lake and the lovely Ohau community and so when I saw this perfect little cottage with a lovely out look I instantly knew it was the right thing to do. I have only had the cottage for a week at writing this but it already feels so homely and we are enjoying the marvellous views from every window the privacy, the sun shine and the shelter.

What makes this property unique

A truly wonderful part of New Zealand to enjoy the outdoors. The house has a different view from each window be it mountains or lake, along with the ever changing sky and the amazing star gazing at night.
