Welcome to Ranger Station! This 4-bedroom home was beautifully remodeled in 2024 in a modern farmhouse style with the feel of a boutique National Park lodge. You'll love the gourmet kitchen, spa-like bathrooms, high-end furnishings and entertainment systems, and two-car garage. The home is nestled in a quite mountain neighborhood with private access to the 500 acre Timberline Conservancy with two lakes and miles of walking trails. It's located in Canaan Valley, WV, the largest high-elevation valley east of the Mississippi, and surrounded by the million-acre Monongahela National Forest, the Dolly Sods Wilderness, and the Canaan Valley National Wildlife Refuge, with trails connecting directly into these areas right from the community. Decorated throughout with vintage National Park artwork, Ranger Station is the perfect base camp for everything from refreshing nature walks to hiking, biking, paddling, and skiing adventures. Or just enjoy the outdoor decks and walk across the quiet country lane to a lovely gazebo on a scenic fishing pond. Ranger Station is minutes away by car from Timberline, White Grass and Canaan Valley ski areas, Blackwater Falls and Canaan Valley state parks, and the charming mountain towns of Davis and Thomas, with their galleries, brew pubs, restaurants, and mountain music scene. Dog owners will love the huge fenced in yard!

Two Years in a Row

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: This was our second time at Ranger Station, and we did that on purpose. A great place to stay for 3 weeks and Best of Canaan is as advertised (see our 5 star ratings). We have rented from Best many times over the years and have always been pleased with rental properties and Best’s staff. We need our Canaan Valley time and travel 370 miles from NJ to enjoy it, along with our 3 adult children, their spouses, five grandchildren, and 3 dogs in three other rentals in Old Timberline. A longtime family tradition now including three generations. Memories that last a lifetime.

Nature and luxury meet at Old Timberline Ranger Station

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: We have rented over 15 different homes in Old Timberline, vacationing yearly to hike Dolly Sods and fish in the two lakes. Ranger Station is the first home we have rented in the valley past the lakes. Our two grandson brought their bikes and we really enjoyed fishing right across the street in the tranquil pond. The amenities at Ranger Station are very upscale. The furniture, ceiling fans, AC, lighting, variety of dishware, decor, appliances and variety of extras made this home stand out. We all felt pampered and enjoyed the experience making this a very pleasant home to relax and enjoy nature of this beautiful valley. Of course the trailhead to Dolly Sods is a highlight of Old Timberline. Best of Canaan is very easy and friendly to communicate with. Our grandsons won’t want us to rent any other place, so I’m glad we loved it too.

July 4th Getaway

This house was beautiful and had everything you would need on vacation. It was very peaceful located in a great neighborhood. It was very dog friendly as we had our two large dogs here for four days with no difficulties. All of the technology in the house was new and updated. Also loved all of the board games they kept in the house.

Everything here was awesome. Loved the upgrades. Learning how to lovk the doors or use the stove top took some time. Would be nice to leave instructions. This was our 3rd visit to the Ranger Station and we will be back. It is very well taken care of and very relaxing. Our dog Chief felt right at home. We even enjoyed the daily visit from the local deer. I would highly recommend this house for a vacation

Perfect Winter Stay

This was a perfect trip. The cabin was amazing. All 3 generations loved it. The view of the pond was wonderful. It was also very close to the slopes and to town. We loved walking in the neighborhood. Thank you for sharing such a special place. We will definitely be back!

Peaceful and pretty spot in the WV mountains

Our family comes to Canaan mostly for hiking and this property was perfect for us. Access to Valley View and Dolly Sods is wonderful. We saw many beautiful sunrises and sunsets. Davis is a great little town to visit, along with Blackwater Falls. Love it!

Great cabin

We loved staying at the Ranger Station. It had a lake across the street which was fun for the kids to explore around it and the backyard being fenced in yet wooded let the kids use their imagination of hiking. It was a great spot to come back after a day of hiking and grill out. Kitchen well stocked and beds comfy. Management easy to communicate with

Perfect for us!

Our family ski weekend was a huge success due to the Ranger Station and there being plenty of snow still on the ground to XC ski. We ( Grandparents 60, Adult son,DiL, 9yr & 6yr & 25lb dog) enjoyed the comfortable and spacious open and well equipped kitchen/dining/living room. The National Parks theme was tastefully carried through each room. Any issues we had were responded to and resolved ( wood supply, garage door) with one phone call. We would definitely stay again.

Beautiful time of year

Ranger Station is close to Davis and Thomas. Nice get away this time of year. We were there for the peak season for the foilage. Property inside and out well maintained. Close to all adventures; Dolly Sods, Seneca Caverns and much more. Shop and Save close by, so you dont have to pack food, and the house was very spacious, well equipped with all kitchen essentials and spices. We do plan on making another trip to Canaan Valley Resort next year!

Beautiful home, great location

The Ranger Station is a beautiful property with everything you could need. It appears to have been recently renovated and the style and decor were wonderful, we particularly loved the national park themes throughout the house. The kitchen was well equipped and while we did not use them there was also plenty of things in the garage like skis etc. I would note tho that although the backyard is fenced in, there were areas that were not secure, so if you have a dog just beware. The location is great for skiing or hiking. Overall a great experience!

Ranger Station at Timberline Mountain

Excellent property. We have kids in Virginia and Kentucky and this is roughly the mid point. Perfect. Lots of hiking and trails to enjoy and Canaan Valley was beautiful. Home is well equipped and has everything you need. 4 beds and 2 baths and very quiet. There are neighbors but they’re far enough away that it isn’t an issue. Would definitely stay again.

Lovely retreat

The property was as described whiff a very large fenced yard that my dogs loved. It was comfortable and as described. The only thing missing were board games, which are usually plentiful in rentals. There were none and we would have packed some if we'd known
