Every window offers great views, and the deck is perfect for lounging or grilling. The house was clean, comfortable, and spacious, with a fantastic kitchen, located on a quiet street in a charming village. My only suggestion is to add some summertime views from the house, because a July sunrise is phenomenal. Enjoyed the house and our time in Detour.

Fantastic stay!!

We had an amazing week at the lakefront home! The ships and freighters were fantastic to watch. Painting rocks, visiting the botanical gardens, the culinary institute, and Drummond island were the highlights of our trip. We will definitely be back.

Our stay was wonderful. The property exceeded our expectations! We are already booked for next year. Enjoyed watching the freighters right off the deck. If you’re looking to decompress while enjoying the UP beauty this is the place. Situated right in the lower St Mary’s River, the freighter traffic was wonderful to watch from the deck, living room and bedrooms. The house is set up nicely, kitchen is perfect and it was a great gathering place. Enjoy the low rumble of the freighters and the dark sky filled with stars. The views of the nearby islands are great also. The home is nicely decorated with plenty of seating. Looking forward to a return trip!

Absolutely wonderful house!

Our girls trip could not have been better, the house sets on Lake Huron in a quiet neighborhood. We were amazed at the barges and it was so fun to watch them as they glide by the house. We loved the kitchen, roomy enough for all 4 of us to work on dinner preparations. Beds were very comfortable. We all agree that this would be house we would rent again!

We are ship and water crazy and our first trip to the UP did not disappoint. The setting of the property is ideal for both. The house is well maintained and clean and quiet. The only drawback, which was our fault, was we were not prepared for how remote it would be. There were 2 eating places in DeTour. Drummond Island is said to have more if you are willing to take the ferry there. There is a grocery store and a Dollar store in DeTour so if you like to cook you’re covered.

Best Spot Ever

Can't say enough wonderful things about the house and location. It was great! If you like wathching the freighters, it is a prefect location. Our son thought ot was the best spot ever! Sitting on the deck and listening to the water was SO relaxing. It is most definately a place we would like to visit again.

Relaxing Week

My husband and I stayed a week with our two teenage daughters. The house was perfectly set up and meticulously clean. We enjoyed watching the freighters go by (even saw a cruise ship one night!) and spent our evenings by the fire. It was one of the most relaxing vacations we’ve ever had.

A lovely view along the shores of the St. Mary's

We loved the shoreline view through the long sliding glass doors or off the back deck, watching freighters chugging down the St. Mary's River or the hourly ferries shuttling back and forth to Drummond Island. The spacious galley kitchen was marvelous with sliding drawers in the roomy cabinets. The home is situated on a quiet cul-de-sac which makes for quiet sleeping through the night. Definitely a repeat destination.

Our family enjoyed our brief visit. The location for viewing of freighters floating by was perfect! The only improvement I could suggest to make the viewing any better would be to remove the one biggest obstacle, which was the large bush, growing smack dab in the middle of our line of vision! Small improvement! The home was very comfortable and clean. The beds were great and we slept like babies! Huge kitchen was well furnished! Might we suggest the addition of some sort of support or railing to the front door entrance for those using a cane or just a little more support using the stairs. We’ve purchased this for our own home…(Single Post Wrought Iron Handrail Stair Railing Handrails for Outdoor Porch Railings Fits 1-2 Steps). We’ve already booked another stay for 2026 and are greatly looking forward to it!

Wonderful Experience!

This house was exceptional! It was clean and well stocked with all the necessities of home. We had 4 adults and 2 children in our party with plenty of room to spread out. We enjoyed the large deck and watching life on the water. The kids enjoyed the beach area, perfecting their stone skipping skills. We would definitely recommend it and would love to stay again.
