Nice but not clean
The house is in a beautiful and secluded neighborhood, and even has partial water view. It has the potential to be a fantastic stay, but it was unfortunately not clean. The showers had hair in them, the cups in the cabinet had visible dirt and we had to clean before we could use anything, and worst of all for my group was the pet hair covering the carpets. I am severely allergic to cats and this was not mentioned at all in the listing and made for a very uncomfortable nights sleep. Im not sure if we caught the host on a bad weekend, but this spot could be fabulous with more attention to details.

Beyond Expectations
The photos do not do this beautiful property justice. The house is well kept, the location is wonderful, the beach access is easy (and beaches are gorgeous) and the community is special. We are hoping to return for another New England beach vacation! Incredible memories were made - more to come!

best private beach ever!
the pond and neighborhood location couldn’t have been any better. the private beach only a short drive away was amazing, especially during covid. we loved kayaking on the pond, cooking in the kitchen/on the grill and taking walks around the beautiful shady harbor neighborhood. john was very communicative which was helpful. the house could have been cleaner when we arrived, but that was our only complaint. we had such a great vacation.

Great Stay on Rhode Island's South Coast
Shelter Harbor is a quiet vacation community in Southern Rhode Island. It was just the right place for a New England Staycation. The home is modern with 3 BR and 3 FULL bathrooms and plenty of space. As noted in the earlier review, there is a bonus room with futon which we used as an home office for our stay since my husband was working while the rest of us played! Internet was strong. We spent mornings on strolls through the neighborhood and kayaking (providing by hosts) on Quonnie Pond which is actually huge and afternoons on the beautiful Weekapaugh beach, just a short 10 minute drive away and super convenient thanks to parking passes included with the home. As it is a pass only beach, there was plenty of room to spread out and no crowds at all. There are also friendly lifeguards. We cooked in and grilled for most meals, and shopped at the Walmart and Stop and Shop a short drive away. We also did quite a bit of ice cream, and highly recommend HOLY COW down the street in Charlestown. Also, did take out from Matunack Oyster Bar one day, and a local pizza spot on another day. Host was easy to communicate with and addressed questions ahead of time, and while we were on-site. As the previous review stated, would suggest extra lighting in living room area for evening games and reading. Would certainly return!

Relaxing stay in Shady Harbor!
My adult daughter and I were looking to get away and feel normal (in terms of social distancing) and this place delivered. The house was very spacious and actually larger than expected, allowing us to each have an overnight guest with privacy. Although a 3BR, one of the BRs has an attached room with a door, allowing for 4 (mostly) private sleeping spaces (we brought a blow up mattress - the owner has a futon mattress there). Plenty of bathrooms too. Great views from the sunroom, where we had all of our meals (seating for 4). Deck was small (and buggy at dusk), so we didn't spend much time there. We were the first guests of the season, and deliveries for kayaks/grill were still in process. 2 kayaks arrived in time for us to go out on the pond with friends (who brought their own kayaks), and the owner's parents brought their grill for us to use. The neighborhood was lovely for walks and the private ocean beach was a godsend, allowing us to come and go as we pleased, with no concerns about parking or getting a good spot. Due to COVID, we kept to the house, pond, and beach, except for a quick run to the Walmart (~2 miles away) for food & sundries, and the liquor store, so we could have mudslides in the sunroom. Only negatives were some ants (we put down traps) and the living room was dark - limited natural light despite plenty of windows, only 2 lamps, so not enough light to read at night - we're not TV people. But that did not diminish our enjoyment; just trying to be honest in case this is important to others. We were sad to leave and would definitely stay again!
