About this property
The Granary- 3 Bedroom Apartment in Medieval Castle with huge living room
This self-catering apartment at the rear of the castle, has one double room and two single rooms with a shared bathroom (with bath and separate shower).
With stunning views of the Conca D'oro valley towards the spire of Montegiovi, you can look down a valley that has hardly changed since medieval times, with plots of land that have been farmed for millennia in the same way.
The apartment in the old tower behind the castle has a fully equipped kitchen/living room with exposed beams and high ceilings (the room is roughly 15m by 6m) has a wood burning fireplace.
The master bedroom has a king sized double bed and a fully functional wood-burning bread oven. The other two bedrooms are single rooms with beautiful vaulted ceilings.
The castle, first mentioned in 1042 with roots going back probably to Etruscan times (500BC), is a fully working farm, with 4 ha. of vineyards, more than 600 olive trees and a vegetable garden (from which you can buy vegetables if you need).

At Castello di Potentino, she has revitalized an abandoned estate, planting new vineyards, bringing back olive trees into production and recreating the castle as a cultural centre and a bed and breakfast. She and Alexander have been running food and wine pop-up events in London, Ireland and France since 2010. She is currently working on a book about Potentino Life with photographer Michael Woolley. Before moving to Italy, she worked for Vogue Magazine, Secker and Warburg Publishing House and then as a freelance journalist. In 2013, she was recognized as one of the Barclay’s Women of Achievement.

He then went on to work at the book publisher Little, Brown Book Group whose authors include J.K. Rowling, Stephenie Meyer and Patricia Cornwell. He is now a director at Castello di Potentino and Raymond Chandler Ltd..
Charlotte has been living at and restoring Potentino since 2000 when the family purchased the ruin. Alexander gave up his job in publishing in London in 2011 and moved to Potentino.
Why they chose this property
When we first came to Potentino, it was a ruin- owned by 24 different owners, the castle had been abandoned- the roof was falling in and there was no running water, electricity or the doors and windows. It was one of the most beautiful buildings we had ever seen. It took more than 6 years to restore the main building- and we continue to restore parts of the castle every year. The castle is a labour of love.
What makes this property unique
Staying at Potentino is an opportunity to stay in a fully working castle. The winery is in the old stables. The countryside around the castle is unspoilt- there are waterfalls below the castle and at night there is a huge sky with very little light pollution.
Drink the wines from the castle's vineyards, swim in the lovely swimming pool and take walks along the valley to enjoy the peace.
