What We Love

Take a glimpse back in time at Mount Edgecumbe House on historic Pointe Rapide Estate in the West Tamar Valley wine region. Set on 37 acres of lush land with botanical gardens and a new vineyard, it offers an idyllic setting to completely unwind. Overlooking the Tamar River, this c1835 home has historic significance, being one of the earliest homesteads to be built in Tasmania. Inaccessible until recently, it has been fully refurbished in the finest luxury and is, for the first time, open to the public to enjoy.


Offering complete serenity, the home comprises three individually styled, luxury ensuite bedrooms all dressed with organic bamboo sheets and bespoke wallpapers. The modern kitchen and laundry comes equipped with the latest European appliances. Nestle in by the cosy wood fireplaces and take in the spectacular views or indulge in a long luxurious soak in the clawfoot bath looking out at the views.


Breathe in the fresh air as you meander about the spectacular garden with walking tracks to the water's edge. Historic relics, the dam, an abundance of flora and fauna and the wraparound vineyard are yours to discover.


Meander along the water's edge and watch the local sea eagles soar and the seals play. Spend your days walking or cycling to the nearby vineyards. Check out our local picks Waterton Hall Wines, Iron Pot Bay restaurant and winery, Lavender House Perfumery, Beauty Point and Beaconsfield Heritage Mine.


Mount Edgecumbe House is located just a 45-minute drive from Launceston. A car is recommended for getting around here and there is an abundance of parking space on the property.

"Maintenance & Booking Policy Note:

L'Abode Accommodation is committed to providing efficient maintenance services. However, please be aware that we can only attend to maintenance issues during regular work hours. Callouts cannot be confirmed on weekends (Fridays 4 pm - Monday 10 am) and public holidays, as well as outside work hours (after 4:00 pm - before 9 am, Monday-Friday). We understand the importance of prompt repairs and will respond to all requests within 24 hours, arranging tradespeople during work hours.

Our deposit policy requires a 50% payment at the time of booking, and credit card transactions will have a non-refundable fee of 3.5%.

The security bond will only be held through pre-authorization 1-2 days before arrival. Depending on the property's size, this pre-authorization hold will range from $500 to $2,000 and is required 1 day prior to arrival. Selected properties may request guests' IDs for verification.

To avoid credit card fees, guests can opt for bank transfers for payment. Please inform the host in advance if you will use this payment method."

Beautiful Stay
We had a wonderful experience staying at this gorgeous property. Quite out of the way but this was OK for us. Check in was seamless. Kitchen was very well equipped and a wood burning fire added to the ambience. Dale , the property owner dropped by to say hello so was lovely to be able to meet him and have a chat.
