About this property
Beachside - Beauty Point. Unique Spacious Waterfront Pet-friendly
After a day sight-seeing in Northern Tasmania or wine-touring the Tamar Valley, there is little better than relaxing on Beachside’s front porch and enjoying the view.
Overlooking kanamaluka / River Tamar and set in a lovely garden of native and heirloom plants, Beachside is a "perfectly imperfect" unique Arts & Crafts home; picturesque and ideally situated for a quiet getaway.
Built in 1950 and lovingly maintained as a comfortable home, the decor and furnishings are in keeping with that era, while gentle renovations provide modern appliances and conveniences in the kitchen and bathrooms.
The spacious galley kitchen is designed with the foodie in mind. You'll be "cooking with gas" on the stove, baking perfectly in the electric oven or wood firing pizzas in the wood-burning oven/stove.
Three living areas provide generous personal space for guests and 180 degree views of the deep water harbour just across the road.
The open-plan lounge has a large comfortable couch, Smart TV, DVD player, wood heater, and reverse-cycle air-conditioner (aka heat pump).
The sunroom has informal dining overlooking the river and fabulous 1960s armchairs for relaxing in with a glass of wine or a good book.
The formal dining boasts a rustic 8 seat teak dining table and high-backed chairs, and two comfortable armchairs for relaxing and sipping something delicious by the big open fireplace.
The 3 upstairs bedrooms are expansive, all with water views. Standard configuration is 3 beds (1xDB, 2x QB) for up to 6 people.
At Beachside, everything you need for a self-contained stay is provided: linen and towels; all kitchen utensils and appliances; wi-fi internet; general pantry items, and liquid soaps in the showers and by basins.
All you need to bring is clothes and food - for those nights where you don't get takeaway from the region's best fish & chippy which is two doors up, or wander to the pub for a delicious meal on the water.
ACTIVITIES
Beauty Point is an excellent place to relax and recharge, with all of the town's amenities and attractions a short walk or drive from Beachside's front door.
- Wine and dine the Tamar Valley Wine Route
- Learn about our natural environment at Seahorse World and Platypus House
- Discover history at the Beaconsfield Mine & Heritage Centre
- Take long walks along Bass Strait on the white expanse of Greens Beach
- Enjoy evening BBQs across the road on the river
- Fishing and boating from Beauty Point wharf
- All of the attractions of Launceston such as Cataract Gorge, QV Museum & Art Gallery, breweries and distilleries, Stillwater, Penny Royal and the West Tamar Wetlands
- Farmers and collectibles markets in Launceston, Exeter and Evandale
- Day trips to both the east and the west of northern Tasmania. Latrobe, Deloraine, Sheffield, Devonport, Georgetown & Low Head, Bridport are all lovely drives through farmland and forests.
DOG-FRIENDLY
Beachside is dog-friendly with 6ft barrier fencing enclosing the large, grassy backyard and a sizeable covered area just at the back door.
While it is preferred that dogs remain outside, well-behaved, low-shedding canine family members are permitted inside downstairs only if necessary, not on any furniture, and only where the floors are wood or tiles.
As I don't charge pet fees, guests must clean up after their dogs both inside and outside, as applicable, otherwise additional cleaning fees will be applied.
RATES
I use the VRBO / Stayz rates recommendations, so they fluctuate based on demand and the season.
The base rate of $160 per night is for two people sharing one bed. Additional people and/or beds are $30 p/n each.
Beachside is cleaned and laundry done by professionals between guests. Post-COVID cleaning protocols and inflation have increased these costs. Guest contribution to cleaning is $75 per stay.
PAYMENT
We use the VRBO / Stayz online payments system. VRBO charges a service fee and administers the Refundable Damage Deposit (bond) of $250 per stay. The RDD isn't charged upfront. Funds to cover any damages would only be deducted after your stay.

About the host
Hosted by Shan Welham
Hi, I'm Shan. A Queenslander who has lived all over the eastern seaboard of Australia, currently living in country Victoria. I'm a technology professional and board director by day and a lover of all things vintage, art deco, classic cars, reading and cooking in my personal time. I also love to wine and dine, see live music and spend time with friends doing these things.
Why they chose this property
I fell in love with Beachside while tripping around Tasmania after the Falls Festival in 2007. One of my best friends and I visited Beauty Point to go to Seahorse World. We did a lap of the town and there sat Beachside right on the water... it was love at first sight... and she was for sale! Beauty Point is a quiet little place with fantastic access to everything in northern Tassie. I love sharing Beachside with folk from all over the country and the world. The old dame does takes some work though. But she's one of the loves of my life, and she makes so many people happy, so she's worth it.
What makes this property unique
Why I fell in love with Beachside? Look at her! She's so unique and her position on and aspect over the water is heart-warming whether the sun is shining or the rain is pelting down. I love how it feels when you walk in and you're surprised by how big and open the downstairs is... the smell of her old timbers... and sitting on the couch at the bay window upstairs with a book and a cup of tea at any time of day is just magic for what ails you. I feel I have no problems when I'm home at Beachside. I hope she makes you feel that way too.
