We could not have asked for a better home base for almost a week upstate. The Mills at Green Hole exceeded all expectations! The home itself is cozy and well lived in, with all the amenities you could want. However the property is so fabulous that you won't want to be anywhere else. Captain Steve was so accommodating and responsive, we felt well taken care of while at the same time a good sense of privacy. We will certainly be returning as soon as possible. Thanks Captain for the hospitality!

Fabulous space & location

We had a wonderful time at The Mills. We had a group of 4 families with 7 kids (age 5-14) and it was perfect for everyone. The house is clean and spacious, access to the beautiful yard and swimming hole were fantastic. The host is incredibly helpful and responsive, and so generous about sharing the home with a well stocked kitchen, abundance of games and books, yard toys and towels, laundry supplies, everything you’d want for a relaxing and fun get away. We enjoyed nearby hiking, and the relative proximity for guests arriving from several different east coast cities was also a draw. We would love to visit again - the only problem with our trip was it was too short!

Beautiful, magical oasis!

We were all blown away by the beautiful property and the wonderful hospitality from Captain Steve. We had many plans to explore the surrounding town, which we done some of, but ended up barely wanting to leave the property! Why would you want to leave when you have a gorgeous back yard, creek and swimming holes to explore? It if felt so private.Captain Steve gave many recommendations, explains the property clearly, and even offered leftover food from the pantry to our group. It felt like we were staying at our family’s home. It fit our whole group perfectly. We will definitely be coming back!

What an amazing recharge place

Beautiful home and property! Thank you for sharing this magical place. The creek, waterfall and Fire pit is my favorite. Magical Location

Our long weekend at The Mills at Greenhole was absolutely perfect. The charming house is cozy, yet spacious, providing each of our 3 couples and 3 single people with their own bedroom. Plus, there is a roomy kitchen (big enough for several people to prepare food at once), as well as two living rooms and a dining area. The owner—"the Captain"—raised his six children there, and the place has been lovingly kept in great condition. The grounds are fabulous, isolated from neighbors, with a lovely creek and waterfall in the backyard. The surrounding countryside is beautiful, and we visited Hudson, Kinderhook and the Omi Sculpture Park, all a relatively short distance away. Very grateful for the Captain to have opened his magical home to us.

Oasis in the Hudson Valley

We were a group of 13 adults, staying for a long weekend in the summer. The swimming hole, fire pit, grounds, and house overall were amazing. This would be a great place to visit year-round. It’s a bit of a drive from other towns, restaurants, bars, etc. and Ubers were not really a thing, so if you’re coming from the city be prepared to drive. It’s definitely the type of place where you could spend a few days on the property without leaving, though, and have an amazing time. Captain Stephen was very communicative and helpful and everything was great. We plan to come back next year!

Wonderful long weekend

Our family had a wonderful time at The Mills ay Green Hole. We stayed a long weekend and thoroughly enjoyed the property. The space was great for cooking meals, and the large dining table was great for games. Easy access to farm stands and grocery stores - so it was easy to grab anything we needed. The bedrooms were clean and comfortable, each with window fans than provided nice white noise for sleeping. The space just behind the house was great for lawn games, and we loved making campfires and listening to the creek. Our dogs to enjoyed the creek access too. The real gem of the place is green hole - amazingly refreshing two-tired swimming hole thats deep enough for cliff jumping and a rope swing. If you have time, we also recommend doing a tour of the sawmill with Captain Steve . We learned a lot, and it was so cool to see how the water turbine provided power for so many different processes. All in all, great trip!

An incredible stay at this absolute gem of a property!

My best friend was marking a birthday, medical school graduation, and engagement all at once. She decided she wanted to celebrate with seven friends in a peaceful rural location where we could cook and read and hike and generally enjoy one another's company. I took on the task of finding the appropriate place for our retreat. If I do say so myself, I could not have chosen a better location for our weekend in the country--The Mills at Green Hole is one of the most beautiful places I have ever been, the house was clean and comfortable, and Captain Stephen was kind, communicative, and accommodating. I regret that we did not take him up on his offer to give us a tour of the mill itself, but we were too busy swimming in the Green Hole (cold though it was in late April!!), eating dinners around the fire pit under the stars, and reading books in as many sunny nooks of the house as we could muster. In the background of it all, the calming sound of the waterfall and the stream soothed us. We also took advantage of the surrounding area, hiking at Bash Bish Falls and visiting a local brewery. This spot is bucolic and truly feels like it stands outside of time. I wish we hadn't had to leave after only two short days, and I can't wait to go back some day.

Peaceful and Magical Weekend

Our group had a fantastic time! The property is gorgeous. We used the hammock and listened to the birds, lookiny up at the beautiful yrees. We made a fire and sat around the pit while the glow of the orange lanterns lit our surroundings, hearing the rush of the water. When it was time to cook dinner together the kitchen provided everything we needed and more. The bottle of wine waiting for us in the fridge was a nice touch. We used the 8 person dining room table to have meals together, and play games. It was nice how the entire first floor is not only huge (two living areas) but private, leaving the entire second floor of the house for the bedrooms. We each were able to have our own room, and we loved that every mattress was tempur-pedic. We cut a couple of the fresh Asparagus, and now grocery store Asparagus is ruined for me forever, so fresh and delicious! Even though it was May a couple of us went into the green hole of clear beautiful fresh running water. It was invigorating. Both views of the water were enjoyable, being low and barefoot in the shallow rocks, or walking up a little bit to see the waterfall up close. It was absolutely gorgeous. Thank you for taking great care of our group! We'd definitely come back.

Wonderful location to spend with family!

I stayed at the Mills at Green Hole with 8 other family members and my dog for Thanksgiving and it was super cozy. Captain Stephen provided all the necessary information for us to enjoy the home and he provided great pieces of advice on the surrounding areas. This place had pretty much everything we needed to cook up a great Thanksgiving feast and it was easy to accommodate the entire crew and had enough space for our family to gather around the kitchen. At the same time, we appreciated how there were multiple living rooms so we could spread out as well. We enjoyed having the space for my dog to run around in the yard and explore the property. We also loved watching the DVD with a short film on the history of the Mills since the mills on the property were closed for the season. We definitely would like to visit again in the summer to visit the mills when they are running and take advantage of the swimming holes. We would definitely recommend this house!

Wonderful home!

This was a rental for a birthday weekend and it did not disappoint. The (adult) kids and I agreed it was likely the best home we ever rented and the loveliest setting. Everything well thought out-we cooked in and had everything needed. Beds comfortable. The swimming hole is just wonderful too. Thank you Captain Stephen for creating this wonderful place.

Inviting, peaceful, a beautiful get-away

Absolutely loved it here and will definitely book this place on another trip. It’s a beautiful, peaceful property with a fabulous historic home which feels comfortable and easy. Great place for family get togethers, has a spacious well equipped kitchen. We particularly enjoyed sitting on the back porch listening to sounds of the water. The view from the kitchen windows offer a spectacular panoramic view of the river. There is a lot to do in the area, and that made it a fun place to see something new. However, we did enjoy staying put while we tried our hand at fishing, climbed the river rocks, and the kids tired themselves out after running around the expansive yard. The bedrooms are generous and the beds are comfortable. The house is inviting with its well stocked library, games and puzzles. The owners left us a bottle of nice wine and some beer from a local brew house. Those goodies along with fresh cut flowers made us feel welcomed.
