About this property
Westie on the West Coast - Private, Free WIFI, Entire Cottage
YOUR PRIVATE GETAWAY IN TAYLORVILLE.
"Westie on the West Coast" was a nickname coined shortly after our family purchased this property.
Westie is our family holiday home, located in Taylorville, West Coast, New Zealand. Although modernized, we have respected this home has stood since early 1900s.
With the ability to sleep up to 7 people, this cosy classic kiwi home, is nestled in bushland. This home is just 10 minutes from Greymouth, but feels a world away.
-Stunning bush location
-Short Walk to the famous Taylorville swimming hole in the river
-Quintessential West Coast log burner sits central in the lounge
Although this house is the perfect place to just retreat, relax and rest - there is also a multitude of activities located nearby:
- Local Mountain Bike Tracks: Moonlight Track, The Croesus Track, and Napoleon Hill as examples
- Paparoa Track: Situated just 10 minutes from Black Ball "Westie" is a perfect base before going to the Paparoa Track. Paparoa Track crosses the Paparoa Range. It takes you through alpine tops, limestone karst landscapes and thriving rainforests, and provides breath-taking views
- Brunner Historic Mine: Just minutes from our Westie you will find the historic Brunner Mine site. This was one of the country's earliest industrial sites where coal was mined and coke, firebricks and other products were manufactured from the 1860s until the 1940s.
- Fishing: There are options for fly fishing in the Grey River (license required), or cast surfing from the nearby beach.
- Shantytown: A replica township situated on the site of the gold-rush and saw milling history. Located between Greymouth and Hokitika Shantytown is a great family activity.
- Punakaiki Pancake Rocks and Blowholes: Explore a limestone landscape of pancake-shaped rock formations, blowholes and surge pools on this short, paved walk that's great for children. This is located at Dolomite Point, near the little settlement of Punakaiki on SH6. Its 44 km north of Greymouth along the beautiful scenic coastal road.
- Monteiths Brewery: Is a bit of a local legend! One of the oldest breweries, recognised as the original home of craft brewing in New Zealand, it runs regular tours as well as tastings. Located in Greymouth township.
- Shopping: You will find a multitude of hand crafted Jade and pounamu jewellers in the township, as well as all the day to day items you may need. There is also a Sunday market held 10am to 2pm in the township.
There are many things to do nearby, or in a short drive so take the time to explore.
