Great place to connect with our long time friends from out of state for our annual trip. This was a great base with beautiful views, lots of wildlife and plenty of space to enjoy our time together. Spent the days exploring area sights and drives around this part of Oregon. The house was perfect!
Beautiful home. Quiet, peaceful. Amazing view and fantastic stargazing at night.

Perfect home base!
This was the perfect place to stay while exploring the John day fossil beds & painted hills. The house was beautiful and very well equipped. The beds were comfy! The a/c kept us plenty cool even though we were there during a heat wave. Best feature…the view from the deck!
Nice home, great view, would definitely stay there again. Kitchen had plenty of cooking utensils (something that always seems to be lacking). Great central location for everything there is to do in the area. Only bad thing is it cost over $450 a night, host (vrbo) fees for three nights was $343.
This large house was well furnished and had everything we needed for our brief stay. It is centrally located for visiting all three units of the John Day Fossils Beds National Monument. The sky is very dark at night and excellent for star gazing. They house even has a small telescope!. Unfortunately for us, the second night sky was obscured by the Cram Fire way to the north.

Beautiful
Our family stayed for four days and it was so fun being surrounded by the beautiful scenery. The house has tons of room and has everything you will need for stay. My kids enjoyed the loft area with the TV and Wii. There is lots to do around Kimberly and we had a great time exploring the outdoors. We would love to return in the future and make some more great memories.

House on the Hill
Have you ever seen a house on a hillside that looks remote and must have an amazing view? That’s this house and it does have an amazing view, from anywhere you are standing.
To visit the Painted Hills and John Day Fossil Beds Monument area, this is the only place we would want to stay! A super comfortable and spacious home, with an awesome view of John Day River valley. So, quiet, peaceful, and easy to relax away from the big cities. And, if you're not already in the know, plan a stop & eat at Tiger Town Brewing in Mitchell, and Dayville's Dayville Cafe (gotta have their home made pie)...additionally these are included in the recommendations in (the owners) guestbook.
The space exceeded the listing description! It was on a beautiful, quiet property. Lots to do nearby or a great landing spot for John Day/Fossil Bed excursions. W e all felt relaxed from the moment we stepped foot on the property. It is clean, quiet, secluded and thoughtfully managed. We also appreciated the guestbook where we got a lot of great recommendations from past visitors.

Great place. Lots of space, all the facilities you could need for a family. Excellent wifi. Shop at the end of drive (do your full shop elsewhere though if you are staying for a few days). Amazing views and great location. The owner is very helpful and knowledgable about the local area. Overall if you are coming to the area to visit the various John Day fossil bed sites, you can't ask for better, and you can cover them all in a day on a circular drive using the route via Service Creek. Be prepared to take the driving at a steady pace and absorb the amazing scenery.
We stayed at this property for four nights at the end of an Oregon road trip, and what a way to end it! The building is perched on a hill with the most incredible view of the John Day river valley. That view will never get old. I could sit on that deck all day watching the sunrise or star gazing at night. So quiet and relaxing. The property is well equipped with plenty of room for a large group, and is the perfect base camp for exploring the fossil beds and surround areas. This really is an incredibly special part of the world.
This home was an easy place to stay with a good kitchen, well separated bedrooms (great for the kids to be apart from the older family), amazing vistas and a thoughtful host.
We saw a lot of wildlife from the house (nothing to be afraid of) and could easily get to a good river spot, a fruit farm and the areas attractions (John day wilderness).
We saw in the guest book that a visitor in December had a great time and we hope to return in winter.
Lorraine, our contact was helpful and easy to communicate with.
My one suggestion would be to bring your own pillow if you like them a little flatter, lol. All the pillows were nice and new and extra fat.
All in all this place is a total gem!
We booked last minute, so our options were limited. We got word that one ac wasn’t writing about 20 minutes before our arrival. BUT the house is built in such a way, that you can prop open the doors and get a nice cross breeze. A lovely wind comes through in the evenings, and these combine to make it quite pleasant. The kitchen was well stocked. The atmosphere is lovely and peaceful. (The nearest Walmart is 2.5 hrs away so stock up beforehand.) The host was the most helpful and communicative I’ve ever had. The sunsets are incredible and the amount of stars you can see is breathtaking. The river nearby is cool and clear. I honestly have zero complaints. I only wish we could have stayed longer. The four stars for accuracy was only bc of the untimely loss of the one ac unit but I’m not even mad. This house in this location was perfect.

Great place to stay
Comfortable, unusually well-stocked kitchen, great view, good hiking around house. Bring binoculars - mule deer, elk, turkeys viewed from the house. Very convenient to all units of the John Day Fossil Beds. Dayville Cafe good place for breakfast/lunch when visiting Sheep Rock unit, Tiger Town Brewery in Mitchell good place to eat when visiting Painted Hills.
Family of 5 adults - queen beds are good but bunk beds are definitely for kids. One of us slept on the sofa in the loft, which was OK but not ideal.

Wonderful
Absolutely beautiful location. Quiet with desert stars and the John Day river. The house was clean and perfect for our family vacation. Everything worked perfect, and we loved it. The host was kind and welcoming also
This home is just down the street from our son. 4 adults and an 8 year old stayed at the house joined by one adult 5 and 6 1/2 year old for dinner. Very convenient for us. Plenty of space, pots, pans, dishes, seating for all 8 of us. Enjoyed making ice cream on the patio. Games at the kitchen table, afternoons at the river. Great to be so close to the general store—we made daily trips. WONDERFUL views! Loved watching bald eagle.
Downstairs did get warm late afternoon but the rest of the house was very comfortable..
My family and I had a great stay at this property. The home itself was pleasant, comfortable, and spacious. The photos in the listing do a good job of representing it. But where this place really shone was the location and the view! We were in the area to visit John Day Fossil Beds, and there are VERY few properties in that area. This one is close (and also very nice). Access to amenities like groceries, etc., is also quite limited, but this home is just down the street from a handy little country store where we were able to pick up any necessities we were missing. Finally, our favorite part of this property was the porch. It was amazing! Spacious, plenty of seating, and amazing views of the valley. We could have happily spent our whole vacation sitting on the porch.
Great quiet getaway with excellent access to Painted Hills and Condon Paleontology Center. Excellent stocked kitchen and majestic views from outdoor deck highlight this unique property.
