Guest occupancy: 2-3 people in the winter, and up to 4 in the spring, summer and fall.

Stay at our little cottage and enjoy:
- Swimming! Burnt River has deep and clear water for swimming (SEASONAL ONLY)
- Fishing! Catch smallmouth bass and perch right from the dock or steps.
- Miles of hiking, biking or ATV trails. Victoria Rail Trail trailheads nearby,
closest under 5km away.

- Roasting marshmallows at a riverside firepit (choice of two, one covered for rainy days)
- Drinking your morning coffee or hot chocolate with waterfront views from first or second floor deck. Both decks have a dining area (dining area on first floor is closed off in the winter)
- Stargazing during evenings around the firepit or on moonlit walks – spot the Big Dipper!
- Playing games in our fully equipped games room with ping pong table, foosball, darts, ladderball, poker set, board games, cards and beer fridge
- BBQ using our Weber gas bbq or try the charcoal bbq for that smoky flavour
- Napping in the hammock with view of the river
- Showering using outdoor shower (hot water available) with view of nature/trees (SEASONAL ONLY)
- Looking for river wildlife, including beavers, blue heron, woodpeckers, owls and deer that all live nearby
- Visiting the quaint small town 15 minutes away with famous waterfall and locke, public lakes and beaches, as well as brewery, pubs, little boutiques and antique stores, museums and incredible dining (ask us for recommendations). Get everything you need in town - it has a Sobeys grocery store, gas stations, banks, LCBO and a Beer store.
- Cooking your favourite meals in our fully stocked kitchen. Our oven is a convection Kitchenaid model. Sizing-wise, it fits a chicken but not a turkey, or a medium pizza but not a large.
- If you need to cook and still want to enjoy the outdoors, we also have an outdoor kitchen with sink, grill, food prep area and cooking essentials. Outdoor kitchen is SEASONAL use only.
- Watching your favourite movies on the 47 inch TV (from the loft sleeping space or couch!). Catch the game on our TV as we have TSN and Sportsnet for sports fans.
- Walking your dog in our cottage wonderland. We are pet-friendly but please let us know when you are bringing your furry family member up.
- Making coffee/tea/hot chocolate at the outdoor hot drink station with Keurig. Enjoy easily accessible hot chocolate during firepit evenings
- Property surrounded by little twinkly lights for the perfect outdoor ambience. Enjoy the outdoors late into the evening.
- Property has also outdoor bathroom next to firepit for easy access. Odourless, modern eco-toilet. This is in addition to the indoor, modern toilet.

The guesthouse:
We also have a guesthouse/bunkie with electricity, small desk and double bed for another couple or the kids that can be used in most seasons.
We only rent to one group at a time, so you would get the entire property to yourself and not have to share with other guests. The bunkie/guesthouse will not be rented separately from the main cottage.

Our place is perfect for couples who want to a vacation in the main cottage but also want to invite other couples or friends to use the bunkie for a few days during their stay, especially during spring, summer or fall. (Please advise us if you are inviting couples to visit during your stay as all guests need to be registered.) The guesthouse, with access to the outdoor bathroom and kitchen, is very private from the main cottage.

Wifi:
We finally have Starlink unlimited wifi! Use to your heart’s content. May experience some outages during extreme weather.

Neighbours: We have visible neighbours on one side of property. If you want a vacation where you don’t see anyone, our property may not be for you. All neighbours in the area are very respectful and friendly if you want to chat.

If you or your family members (including dogs) have mobility issues, please note that the upstairs living area is only accessible via spiral staircase. Some larger dogs can have difficulty climbing the staircase. The loft sleeping space in the main bunkie is only accessible via ladder. All guests must be extremely careful on the ladder. When going down the ladder, face the bed and go slowly. The loft sleeping space is not recommended for small children. Children must always be supervised when using the ladder or climbing the staircase.

We know dogs are family and they are welcome at Riverrun cottage, with a small cleaning fee. Please keep dogs on leash during walks and pick up all dog waste.

A serene and relaxing getaway
This cottage was the perfect weekend getaway. The loft and small cabin were very cozy and comfortable and there are lots of nice places around the property to lounge, read and hang out (verandas, hammock, dock). The cottage has so many fun amenities (game room, tons of DVDs, outdoor kitchen, barbecue, fire pit, outdoor shower) that I could stay for even longer without getting bored. The property is clean and nicely maintained and felt like I was at home. I usually look for cottages on lakes, but this river was amazing. I love the property’s dock and the water is clear and refreshing. The swimming was excellent! There are trees and bushes that give privacy from the road and nearby cabins so the stay was very peaceful. None of us wanted to leave, and I will definitely be staying here again!

Cute Rustic Cottage on the River
Great cozy feeling. Amazing cottage vibes. Quiet area with friendly neighbours. The dog also enjoyed the property! We enjoyed our week getaway. Communication with the owners was fantastic start to finish. Would definitely book again!

Burnt river
Had a lovely stay here, the small details made it really cozy! Hosts provided everything you need! I would only note that, if individuals experience claustrophobia sleeping in the loft in the cottage, the bed may be too close to the ceiling. However, the bunkie is comfortable to sleep if that’s the case! Overall, cute cottage !

Not Suitable for Seniors
Although advertised as 2 bedroom/2 bath, there are NO bedrooms and only 1 bath. There is one storage loft with a mattress on the floor with no head clearance and 1 bunkie outside with an outhouse beside it. The cottage does not lock so no way to secure belongings if you leave the premises. There is no place to store belongings (kitchen cabinets or shelves, closets etc) so be prepared to live out of suitcases and boxes. This cottage was not very clean (bathroom garbage still present, mold in fridge, cigarette butts on balcony) and cottage is very difficult to access as you must access with all your belongings and food up a very narrow spiral staircase on the outside of the cottage. The riverfront and dock were the best things about this cottage.

Perfect mini-honeymoon!
Riverrun is beautiful! My husband and I were just here for a mini honeymoon and we loved it. It is definitely smaller than the impression given by the photos but it is otherwise great. Check in was simple, and the neighbours we met were all friendly and happy to meet us and our dogs. The location is awesome, not too far from Fenelon Falls where we went for ice cream and the best poutine I've ever had! There was alot of bugs but thats to be expected given the time of year - definitely bring bug spray. There was also alot of really beautiful hummingbirds, bumblebees, and chipmunks though so it was all worth the bug bites. Would definitely recommend to a couple or small group looking to unwind and get out of the city for a few days!

About the host

Hello! My fiancée Brandon and I would love to have you stay at our cozy cottage getaway, Riverrun Cottage, in Kawartha Lakes. We live in Toronto and bought our cottage in a fit of madness during pandemic lockdowns, but we never regretted it for a second. We spent a long time making our place the quirky home it is, and spend as much time here as possible. Some of our favourite things to do are: paddling on the river, cooking outdoors (our outdoor kitchen is one of our favourite parts of being up North), going on winter hikes, and just being away from the city. When we are in Toronto, you’ll catch us at concerts, at the Beach, or being dorks and watching Survivor and the first few seasons of Game of Thrones. Our two pets are Potter the dog, (named after Harry Potter, of course) and Tuna the cat (named for no one, first of his name). Hope to meet you soon!

Why they chose this property

Our cottage is so unique and quirky, we fell in love with it as soon as we pulled into the driveway. There's nothing like hearing the different sounds of nature at night, the fireflies, the stars... and our friendly neighbourhood beaver that we have named Nickel. They swim down the river and only their head is visible, but suddenly emerge on the riverbank across the cottage and you can see their whole body! Definitely new sights and sounds for these two city mouse.

What makes this property unique

The main cottage and bunkie/guesthouse are so private from each other! The two parties can have completely separate vacations with tons of privacy, using the outdoor bathroom, kitchen and shower or the indoor facilities. The friends we've had stay in the bunkie/guesthouse almost never have to come upstairs unless we're all watching a movie. We love this part of our property - great for both introverts and extroverts.
